The issue has been complicated by the recent surge in coronavirus cases and of course the governments announcement yesterday about really rolling back openings. Now there is more on the process and the countys plan. Good morning. Good morning. We have learned Alameda County will be allowed to apply for that variance in the board of supervisors meeting is just now getting underway in Alameda County. They will be going into closed session 1st and we are set to discuss the variance issue later this morning and as of right now the way it is now Alameda County doesnt have it in place but has the opportunity to apply and it is to be one of the big topics at todays meeting but until last night it appeared the state was pausing the process of applying for any special permission to reopen areas across the state and the county says it wants cities to follow state guidelines because future funding for covid 19 is tied to compliance with those orders. Alameda county is the only county that did not apply for a variance from the state in may and without it Outdoor Dining is not allowed, places like fairyland and the oakland zoo cannot reopen and oakland, hayward, dublin and livermore are among the cities in Alameda County pushed back the closure of Outdoor Dining over the weekend is over now reopenings are on pause. Each week this month ktvu is highlighting charitable organizations working to help the bay area during the covid 19 pandemic and it is part of the fox to giving day drive and we want to recognize the Nonprofit Group 100 black men of the bay area this morning. Joining us alive is the chairman of their board, good morning. Good morning and how are you . Speak i am good and thank you for joining us tell us about the 100 cares covid 19 initiative. What is the goal behind it and how did the idea come about . The goal for the covid 19 response under our 100 cares program is two fold it we want to make sure that folks are safe and make sure that people had sanitary kits and masks, gloves, toothpaste and etc. And the house and the unhoused population so we wanted to be responsive to that. From there as the covid situation continue to develop we continue to shift the focus a little bit to Food Services and making sure that people had food. We started with our mentees in our mentoring program where they were out of school and a lot of our mentees rely on school lunch and other Food Services and we said how do we make sure we are responsive to our mentees. From there it is a larger demand that we recognize and we have been turning our efforts into larger Food Services so we partner with other organizations, over the last several weeks actually, and we have our own food giveaways that we provide to make sure that we are not having large segments of the community underserved when it comes to basic needs of food. So these are care packages packed with a lot of love and consideration and care for people who need them for food but also things like toiletries and people who do not have a home to live in might need. Exactly fit that is exactly why there are twin paths. We started off with the packages and have given out over 10,000. And as you mentioned masks, gloves, sanitizer, toilet paper, socks, toothbrush and toothpaste, feminine products, and you hit it on the head. How can people watching right now help, if they want to help or make a contribution or is there a way for people to volunteer their time and help that way as well be asking the community for help and what kind items you need . We absolutely accept money from donations make the work we do possible and i give thanks to a lot you have already done this. They have seen the work we are doing and a lot of this is behindthescenes or people come out and if you go to 100 black men ba. Org, on our website it can go directly to the donate link and you can go look under hashtag 100 cares and that will get you to our front page as well. And for those who have time, we are set up to have volunteers come and help us handout the sanitary kits in the preparation kits, help us with food distribution. That is a big deal. We can put you in touch with our folks and get you out here and have People Volunteer to do that. We set up both ways, again 100 black men ba. Org and reach out to us for volunteer options as well. Before you go, could you explain and share with us the experience for you personally and for those have handdelivered the 10,000 care packages, what has been the response when you experience this and you give it to someone who needs it . It is heartwarming. I dont know how to describe it and it is a can to helping somebody that is in severe need and is not necessarily sure how they will manage to run from this pendant and it is just the Human Interaction of them knowing they are not alone. We just found that is a very very strong reaction and weve heard that a number of times, the gratitude of not being alone even more so than the kit is important as the kit is and is important as a food is, knowing theyre not going through this alone and every one has her own unique situation and set of circumstances they have to deal with and you never know when just being there and saying let us know if theres anything we can do, how can we be helpful and hope youre having a good day. Those things mean more than you would imagine. The social connections are so important now for all of us during this a very trying time. Thanks for joining us with the organization of 100 black men of the bay area working on the thousands of care packages for folks in need. Thanks for being with us. If you want to contribute to the giving day drive go to ktvu. Com giving day. Well pairing up aspiring Young Artists with professionals in the entertainment community, even when they cannot meet faceto face. To tell us about one of the nations premier theater and drama camps based in the bay area we are joined by an Award Winning and actually Emmy Award Winning member of the faculty you might recognize from the hit Comedy Series parks and jim ohare we are so glad to have you, dont know what i should call you, jim or larry or gary. I have learned its answer to all of it claudine. I normally hear on a daily basis jerry. Every single day. You know i love the names because they show the progression of your character parks and rack and as people fell in love with you and the many different phases. When you talk to aspiring actors that is really how a career can go right . You can give many credits for your person number two on the cast to being the person who takes a roll and then changes it into the most favorite role in one of the most memorable once even if it is not the lead. When the character jerry started they did not know what he would be and if jerry would exist for long in the office. They had no idea. The fact that it went from a he is funny put him in a chair literally one of the producers said when i auditioned in all of this and once that he is funny put him in a chair and i think it will work out good but no one knew what jerry was but to end up with five different names and Christie Brinkley is my wife and these beautiful daughters, it all worked out well. It is the case, that is storybook ending right for your character . We are talking about this young theaters camp and youre talking to aspiring actors and really facetoface is the ideal right . But in terms of acting i think there is a method, there is storyline and there is inspiration of perseverance, there are some things you would want to get across i would think to these kids that are thinking and looking at your career and say how do i get there . How do you get that across virtually now and how is it different from what you would do in person . It is different and i was blown away this year because ive been working with the young actors theatre camp for a lot of years. Every summer i would either go there and if im working ive done it before where ive done it on skype or whatever. This year i do not even know if they would be able to do it because i did not know how. But sean ryan and John Ainsworth were in the young actors theatre camp and they had put together this really amazing virtual experience. The other day i did a masters class with the kids and i thought will there be two or three people question i did not know what it would be an i did the zoom thing and were all zooming every five minutes and there are tons of kids and they are also anxious to be able to participate. Artistic kids, those kids that just have that in them, they have to have an outlet. In the young actors theatre camp is still doing that even during this craziness we all have to live through right now. It was great. When you talk, especially on zoom, by the way three months ago i never heard of them and now every five minutes i am on zoom. You and the rest of us. Yes. So when someone talks the screen pops up. Yes. They love to hear stories on how it can happen and what my journey was because i was a theater kid or theater guy before it was anything. So it can still be done. You can do scripts, you can do monologues, there are so many great ways to do this virtually. I was so excited that sean and john were able to continue because i did not know if they could but from what i have been seeing of what they are doing they are nailing it. That is great and for those who do not know it is a theater and drama camp held in the Santa Cruz Mountains it is very close and they bring people like you and many others from stage and screen their studies 8 to 18yearold kids can get this experience. So you is a seasoned actor and comedian and someone that we recognize in that space, what would be the one thing you would tell people . Certainly this is a challenge . I would think anyone in theater or performance, this is not going to be the only one. If youre eight years old in your thinking this is hard, this is a hard road acting and in this profession. What is the one lesson you want them to take out of covid that could make them better at what they do . We all have a lot of different emotions and feelings with what is going on right now. Younger people, i dont know if they realize worldwide how this is affecting them, to take it all in. This is stuff that you will use acting is about using things you have been very and depending on the style of acting you like to do, just keep that. We are allowed to have emotions during this terrible time and cannot all be smiles and everything is great and there are days like is this still going on . I cannot believe it is still happening. I have the ceilings and i am an adult. So just remember all of this. Experience your feelings. It is okay and the one big piece of advice i give whether it is covid or not. Be prepared. When you get an audition or an opportunity do not just think what i will be okay. Be prepared and you never know who is looking at you and you never know what opportunity they might have for you down the line or whether that particular opportunity is right for you are not. Who knows . It could all lead to something. Larry and terry and gary could tell you it will all lead to opening and leading to something but jim ohare i love to chat and i appreciate it and many people are Binge Watching parks and recreation, we appreciate it, stay safe and healthy and thank you for what youre doing for the kids. Thanks claudine. Still tough, following the big reveal of the new ford bronco, a live report from detroit michigan on the most anticipated car of the year coming up in minutes. I have a lot of memories in the early 90s back in the High School Days with a lot of jealousy in a couple of friends wrong in the sunset district in San Francisco with the broncos in the top down the soft and hard tops on these new ones have the option of coming off of the doors, and has a independent front suspension, the monitoring bar and the whole point is this argument, wrangler or bronco, do the new broncos have a chance to compete with the jeep wrangler. Here is the deal, it will make the market more exciting. One of the broncos they have doors and the roof that store and the back which you cannot do with the wrangler. The bronco you can carry around the doors. The old tops of the broncos used a way around 250 pounds and was a three person job to lift them off and put them in the garage but now no longer as they are made of aluminum you are right, check on the inside of the vehicle and they have an option of a 12 inch screen with grab handles on the inside, you can change their position and move them around. You can put your cell phone or your go pro on it and there is power at the base of the windshield. And of course if you happen to go into the water and you do a little wind surfing and swimming and you get back in and your nice and wet you can hose out of the vehicle and there is a drain plug in the floor a lot of cool stuff coming on the inside of the vehicle and i dont know about you but i like to go out into the wild a little bit and so checking out the inside of the vehicle they have really cool apps on the inside of the vehicle where you can share your route with other bronco users and there is a 360b0 camera so you dont need a sponsor. And you can take video from the onboard cameras of the vehicle and share it to other people via social media. Very cool. Before we let you go, around here in the bay area i see the offer potential obviously with the bronco but do you foresee the vehicle being down at the Grocery Store and being used for everyday city street kind of life . That is what the bronco sport here is four and will start under 29,000 and for those who need all the space in the back there is a table that comes out of the back of the vehicle and there are floodlights and you can hang some of the wet gear to drive. And if you want a soda, every single bronco apart from being 4 x 4 comes with a bottle opener so you can open all the soda. There will be more adult beverages as well and this is for vision is made for the city life. Under 30,000 is not a bad price point. Nick miles reporting for us near detroit, appreciate the time on this tuesday and as i bring claudine here, i dont know they look good and i saw the video of them rolling. Claudine . They look so fun. You mentioned wrangler because it was my dream car when i was in high school that i never got. I might be team bronco, what about you allie . I have to go with the wrangler. I have to go with the wrangler because my husband and i many years ago did a lot of road tripping and one and it was so fun. I noticed us vehicle sales, alley, arts a contract 25 he said preorders are already packed and i was surprised i was wondering if people are in the market right now to buy a new vehicle whether a bronco or anything else. You know we have seen traffic pick up a little bit now that people are returning back to work so who knows how long it will last now that things are slowing down and some of the reopens are being rolled back. It might change so we will have to wait and see. Just come up with a hybrid version. I think in another year i will get another vehicle and whatever that vehicle is it might be the vehicle i give to my son when he turns 16 in six years. Thanks for watching everybody and that will do it for us, claudine and i will be back at noon. Wendy williams is next. Announcer live from new york city, its the Wendy Williams show.
