Reporter this started as a structure fire but quickly spread into the vegetation igniting this wildfire. I want to show you some video taken this morning. There is this one stunning shot that shows a pink horse. It was hit by fire retardant. They had to rescue a lot of farm animals from this area burning in a rural part outside of gilroy. Today they plan to do an aggressive air attack. They were first called to the structure fire around 2 30 pm sunday afternoon on cruise road. Several homes had to be evacuated. Airplanes are moving towards highway 150 to sell those that live between san felipe bay road and bloomfield have been evacuated. This is the first major fire that firefighters have dealt with during the pandemic. We asked how that changed. This is one of the first significant fires in Santa Clara County with covid19 we are trying to make sure asked that includes frequent handwashing, Wearing Masks and remaining socially distant. An Evacuation Center has been set up at the gilroy senior center. So far two buildings have been destroyed and the cause of the fire is not known. Reporting live i am alyssa harrington. A sixyearold boy wish shot and killed during fireworks on the fourth of july. He stepped outside to watch fireworks during a party and that is when a stray bullet hit him. He died a short time later at a nearby hospital. They say he was an innocent victim of senseless gun violence. He was so smart and he loved to play video games and play with action figures. I dont want to say wrong place at the wrong time because that does not make sense. He was at a Birthday Party. An adult man was wounded during the gunfire. He is expected to survive. San Francisco Police are urging people to come forward with information. It was a tragic and violent we can in other u. S. Cities. Two other children were killed in acts of gun violence. Matt finn has more. Reporter the weekend was marked by devastating gun violence across the country. More than 40 shootings in new york and 75 people in chicago. That includes a 14yearold boy and sevenyearold girl. Is the third week in a row that children have died from gun violence in chicago. It hurts me that my youngest daughter is no longer here. That i wont be able to talk to her or hold her. Reporter at least five people were killed over the weekend including in alabama. An eightyearold girl was shot and killed while in a car with her mother. It has been the site of several antipolice protests as well. We understand the racial uprising but we have nothing to do with it. Reporter they are pleading for citizens to stop shooting each other. This is all of us working together saying we all have perhaps fallen short and can do better. The violences calming as people continue to call for police reform. An extra 1200 officers were deployed over the weekend but city leaders are not Getting Police announce guidance. This is done by the public against one another. We need to call the political leaders on the carpet and ask what they are doing. And the police superintendent, who is new to the city, is pleading that the code of silence be broken, at the very least, for the sake of children. In chicago i am matt finn for fox to news. Witnesses told police that last night around 5 40 pm they saw a young woman get out of a car at rotary way and catalonia away. She ran towards an apartment complex. She was yelling help me dont let them take me the suspect sped away with the woman and during a short police chase, the suspect in the vehicle escaped. We are joined with the latest from sara zendehnam. Reporter the san Francisco Police chief says he is determined to find the person or people responsible for the death of jace young. He was outside a Birthday Party watching fireworks with his sister when gunshots ring out and he was hit. Officers went to ingle street at 10 45 pm in the Bayview District. That is where they found jace who was rushed to the hospital. His family tells us that he was a good boy who loved action figures, reading and playing video games. The san Francisco Police department has not arrested anyone and does not have a suspect description yet. We spoke with his family and they are looking for any support they can get. We are just in deep grief and trying to support mom and show her love and hugs. And the same with his siblings. And for the extended family. Everybody is just trying to grapple with this travesty. People that live east of 101 are likely to see helicopters flying over power lines. Pg e is tracking power lines as they prepare for annual shutoffs. You will see them flying there between 7 am until about 5 pm. Operations will switch to western Sonoma County next week. Cal fire continues to battle a fire burning near gilroy. The cruise fire has now burned 2000 acres and it is 20 contained. Evacuation orders are still in effect for the area but firefighters cannot say if structures that were damaged were homes or other buildings. Firefighters across the bay area felt the strain as they responded to hundreds of fires this fourth of july weekend. Many of those fires were started by a little fireworks. Lets go to Jana Katsuyama. Reporter 343 acres of scorched church earth can be seen here after a fire broke out saturday night. Fastmoving flames forced evacuation. 80 people had to leave their homes along finley ridge road with another 20 sheltering in place. It was probably the busiest fourth of july i have seen since 1990. Reporter they say the plans for increased staffing made a difference. No lives or property loss. We have 16 fire engines and i dont think there was an engine that slept the night. Reporter many Fire Departments say illegal fireworks responsible for the majority of fires last night. Just a significant amount of illegal fireworks activity. Almost 2 the point where the noise was continuous. Reporter Contra Costa County said they have 67 calls between 7 pm and midnight. One fire threatened 20 homes but fair crews were stretched so thin they could only send one engine per incident. Summer for injuries. We had six three significant injuries including a mother and daughter hit by a firework and somebody lost a hand from fireworks. Reporter illegal fireworks in oakland lit up the sky and left a mess on the ground in some areas. Along lakeshore avenue near lake merritt, neighbors swept up debris with mixed feelings. I was watching for seven or eight hours and didnt see a reason to be concerned. Anywhere you should off fireworks theres a possibility of fire hazard. Reporter there were large fireworks within the city. And fire crews there will running from call to call. We extinguished 110 fires. 108 of those fires were the direct result of fireworks. Organizers unveiled the annual memorial quilt this morning. The panels will be on display at the oakland city hall. And a new virtual display will include all 48,000 panels of quilt. Supreme court has ruled unanimously that they can require president ial electors to back their popular selection. 32 states already have this rule in place. The u. S. New this morning, the publisher of a book about trump and his family announced today it is moving up the publication date due to interest and high demand. The recent surge of covid 19 cases do not stop people from spending the day at crowded beaches on july 4. They packed beaches from coastto coast despite warnings to stay away. Some of the busiest beaches were in florida, where there has been a Record Number of new cases. They not Wearing Masks. Theyre not distancing. One group gathered outside the Governors Mansion for what they call the shed the mask event. Some medical facilities in Southern California say that they are at or near capacity, forcing Health Officials to find additional beds to take patients. Sergio works for a medical Services Company transporting covid19 patients to the bay area. The Healthcare System in Imperial County is being flooded with coronavirus patients. Facilities, when they cant find a bed locally, the radius gets further and whiter. As far as the bay area goes. Reporter ucf s is one of the places taking patients from well outside the normal locations. I would say that our covid 19 census is about 50 of outside the county right now. Reporter they say they got five patients from imperial last week. And stanford has another is another of the hospitals taking outside cases. Also, they run reach air medical and that is flying patients in and out of Imperial County. Before covid19, i think we probably move patients to Northern California a dozen times a year. Post covid19 we are seeing it multiple times per month. Sometimes multiple times per week. Bay area hospitals have generally had a low covid19 number of cases. But they do fear a post holiday surge. Once they come in they dont typically leave in a week or a few days. When you have serious did you end up staying for a couple of weeks. Reporter greg wiggins, ktvu fox2 news. Sonoma county officials are scrambled to find extra hospital beds for coronavirus cases after the State University says the county cannot continue using campus for that purpose. County officials were originally told to leave the campus by sunday but some Officials Say that was a soft deadline. The university did decide to have students back at campus on august 10 though. County officials have known that they may not be able to continue using the campus through the fall. A group of scientists is asking the World Health Organization to focus on the airborne spread of coronavirus. They say the risk of infection is higher for those indoors with Research Showing a recent spike of people in restaurants, bars, offices and casinos. The experts are due to publish an open letter this week outlining why they think the recommendations need to be looked at. There has been a recent surge of new covid19 cases in the city of melbourne. And living that lifestyle yourself will encourage kids to be active. The doctor says sedentary child who can lead to poor eating habits and Health Problems well into adulthood. High school and College Students who had summer jobs fall through because of the pandemic may qualify for jobless benefits. But many people are not aware of or accessing those funds. They say the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance Program temporarily expanded eligibility to those that dont typically qualify for regular jobless benefits. And in states like minnesota, a 1939 lot bans students from getting benefits like that at all though. Any summer jobs and internships have been put on hold because of the pandemic and some young people are worried about future career opportunities. Money are reeling from the economic downturn and have scaled back or canceled internship programs. And that is leaving students without resume building experience. Some are turning to remote internships. We offer advice, guidance, counsel, perspective. Right now, when you are young and starting out your career, hopefully you are soaking that all up. Experts say students without a summer internship this year should not panic. Career counselor say Companies Know that the pandemic would be to blame for the missing experience and they advising people to use the time at home to continue learning. Most retailers have filed for bankruptcy but continue to operate. I remember early on people were saying, i like to go in and see things and touch them but i think that people are slowly. Even my mother now, shops online. And if she is doing that, that could be tough. And you have got to imagine the pandemic his really accelerated that because for a long time buying online was the only option.
