Reporter the parents filed a federal civil lawsuit against the Sheriffs Department for wrongful death. They said they are broken by what happened to their son i want to prevent it from happening to someone else. My son cannot go away like nothing happened. Reporter the parents of christian, want the Alameda County sheriffs deputies and the lieutenant in charge of their son held accountable for his death while in custody at the jail. Christian stepfather said he called 911 to get his son help after he started acting erratically and suffered a mental breakdown after taking mushrooms a year ago in june. The body camera video released by the Sheriffs Department, Shows Christians final hours. His head is covered with a spit mask. The lieutenant in charge decided to chain him to the cell door with his hands find us back. The family said he was supposed to be checked on every 15 minutes one check was not done. Christian managed move his hands in front and use the chain to kill himself. Connect these are not sanctioned. We do not in any way shape or form condone those restraints. Reporter i did ask him why the lieutenant would order christian chained to the door if this court sort of restraint was not taught. This was a decision made by the individual. The video shows him in a passive state. His parents say the deputies treated christian like a criminal instead of someone in crisis, and in need of help. And i am shocked. Nobody did nothing to help him. I wish one would have done that. It will take something out of my heart. Reporter christians mother says she has not been able to watch the videos she does not know how this could happen to her son. I miss him all the time. I want for those deputies that did nothing, to also be responsible for the death of my son. Reporter what should happen to them . They should go to jail. Reporter the Sheriffs Department tells me that they are seeking to have the lieutenant fired, the parents say they are speaking out in hopes of changing the system. The Positivity Rate is lower at just 2. 4 . Alameda county record 215 cases one week ago had 68 new cases and a 1. 2 positive test rate.
