New this morning, a young man was killed after he took a sharp turn and rolled his car in east Contra Costa County. It happened at about 230 this morning unclipped in court road in byron. Chp says his car flipped several times and he was thrown from the car. Medics took him to a nearby hospital where he died. Officers do not think alcohol was involved. Today the man suspected of being the Golden State Killer is expected to plead guilty to several charges. Joseph dangelo reached a plea deal to plead guilty to 13 murders and 13 kidnapping related charges. In addition to admitting responsibility for up to 62 rape in the 60s and 70s. We have a guilty plea. I think thats whats going to happen. Now we have a guilty plea , a guilty finding. No more trial. No more guessing no more speculation. No more fighting. That type of finality is probably good for everyone. In an unusual move the hearing is being held at the ballroom of Sacramento State university. Thats because dozens of victims and family members of victims want to attend the hearing. A large space was needed to provide social distancing. The governor will tell us how he will deal with the recent surge in new covid19 cases. A surge that continued over the weekend. Just yesterday almost 4800 new confirmed cases were reported here in california. Now california has more than 215,000 confirmed cases. Almost 6000 people have died from the virus in california since the pandemic began. This weekend the number of corona virus patients in hospitals rose more than 4500 over the weekend. A new record for california. Here in the bay area the number of hospitalizations for the virus reached the highest levels since may 1st. At least 340 corona virus patients hospitalized in the bay area nine counties. San francisco and marin county are scaling back some of those reopening plans after seeing a surge in corona virus cases. Elissa harrington joins us now live to talk about some of the changes. Reporter it was supposed to be a huge day for so many businesses and ready to finally reopen for the First Time Since march. Whats happening is and marin county indoor restaurants and hair salons can still open today. Of Public Health officials decided to pause opening germs, hotels, motels, and shortterm rentals. The county has 1166 confirmed cases. Is also a large outbreak at 800 confirmed cases in only a few weeks. Marin county Public Health officer said the reopening process will be gradual and these are not easy decisions. The spikes in cases statewide, regionally, and in our own community increased hospitalizations and icu stays. A large outbreak is still uncontrolled within our borders. We need to take a more cautious approach for now. San francisco was supposed move into phase 3 today, which would have allowed barbershops, tattoo parlors, and outdoor bars to open. The mayor announced a delay moving into this phase after seeing 103 new cases in a single day. Health Officials Say that in order to move forward it is up to eans wearing a maskd continu hands. Reporting live, elissa harrington, ktvu fox 2 news. Governor newsome ordered the immediate shutdown of those bars that reopened in seven counties. The order came after a jump in the number of new corona virus cases in parts of the state. The Los Angeles Area is the biggest county to be hit by the or. The other counties are san joaquin, fresno, tulare, kings, kern, and imperial counties. The governor also asked officials and eight other counties to issue Health Orders to close bars including santa clara and contra costa counties. We talked with one bar owner in Contra Costa County who says he is not surprised the state is cracking down after the infection rate spiked. Just traveling around to Outdoor Dining situations where people were i would say over half of the places i went to were not practicing social distancing. A bar is the worst case scenario. Nearly impossible to practice social distancing. He doesnt expected bars to be back in business until august or september. He says its especially frustrating because the actions of a few people affect a much wider community. You expect that people would do the right thing and its one of these we are all in this together and it takes just a few people to really mess it up to effect the businesses of a lot of different businesses. A Uc San Francisco Health expert says a sharp increase can be linked to young people going out more in the past few weeks and a lot of family gatherings connected to graduations. Marin county is putting hold on some real things, but near woods will still reopen today. It is offering reservations and facemasks are encouraged. While there will be no tours and officials plan to limit the parking lot to 50 of capacity it will not be as crowded as usual. Today victims and their families finally some closure. We have a live look at Sacramento State right now. Our photographer is out there. This is where the hearing will be held in a ballroom is set up in a court. The bigger space allows for distancing. 74yearold dylan angelo was accused of being the Golden State Killer and is expected to plead guilty today for 13 murders and 13 kidnapping related charges spanning six california counties. San francisco supervisor matt heaney is pushing to remove the name of the Facebook Ceo Mark Zuckerberg from San Francisco general hospital. Posted a long message on twitter and question whether its appropriate to keep zuckerberg his name on the hospital after facebook was criticized for not regulating hate speech. The hospital was renamed after zuckerberg and his wife donated 75 million to the Hospital Foundation in 2015. Happening today, hair salon owners in Santa Clara County will protest outside Public Health department. Salon owners and stylists want more communication from the county about when they can reopen, saying it could take weeks to contact clients and set up appointments, so they need guidance from county officials. More than 100 people held a rally outside san quentin prison demanding inmates be released as the corona virus spreads through that prison. Virus outbreak began after more than 100 inmates were transferred last month from a prison in chino. Since then there have been more than 750 new cases among the prisoners and 89 Staff Members tested positive for the virus. Protesters say state officials did not keep the prison population safe. The total of corona virus cases here in the United States has reached another grim milestone. The official number of confirmed cases in the u. S. Has now climbed to more than 2. 5 million. More than 125,000 people across the country have died. The increase comes amid a growing corona virus outbreaks in florida, arizona, and texas. The Vice President was in texas yesterday. New this morning, militants in pakistan attacked Stock Exchange in karachi killing at least two security officers, a security guard, and a police officer. Four garmin threw a grenade at security guards posted outside the Stock Exchange and opened fire at the entrance, but they did not make it to the trading floor. Security forces responded and killed all four attackers. Back here at home happening today the Alameda City Council holds a special meeting to examine police policies. They will focus on establishing Police Oversight and antiracism training. There will also debate how the police should respond to service calls. That meeting is set for 5 30 this evening on zoom. This week the Oakland City Council will consider reallocating money from the Police Budget to community programs. The City Council President and other councilmembers want to take 150 million from the Police Budget. They say that money can be better spent on Mental Health services, job training programs, helping the homeless and other committee programs. The truth is when oakland doesnt surround policing and other progressive issues the country does it. What were doing in oakland is not just for oakland, its for the entire country. Its for black and brown and Indigenous People across the nation. Last week the Oakland City Council approved cutting 2. 5 million from the Police Budget, but critics who want to defend the police say even more cuts are needed. Oakland police have made note comment on this proposal. Black lives matter protests continue across the country. In seattle protesters marched along the freeway on saturday caused a big and the top autonomous its own in seattle is now entering its fourth week. The city has been negotiating with protesters, but theres no timeline on when it will end. One woman says shes providing food to protesters. I have created a free kitchen that is running out of the middle of chop. In boston the families of black children attended the march bike mother for black lives rally on saturday. Hundreds of mothers, including elected officials demanded protection for their children. Organizer say the goal of the movement is to empower mothers to stand in solidarity against racism. A white couple pointed guns and shouted at protesters marching near their home in st. Louis. About 500 marchers were heading for the home of the mayor to demand her resignation yesterday both black and white protesters told demonstrators to ignore the couple and keep moving. It is not clear yet if police know about the couple with the guns, but there are no reports of any injuries. The demonstrators are angry at mayor person who publicly released the names and addresses of people who wrote letters demanding police be defunded. Sonoma county officials warning you about harmful algae bloom signs out there warning everybody for themselves and for your pets to stay away from those algae blooms. They are formed by bluegreen algae and they multiply into harmful blooms as it gets hotter. The blooms often look like. Paint like, basically.
