Reporter what we know is that two men got in a fight and the suspect ended up dead. We dont know why he died and if this was a case of self defense. It started with a theft on this store. Police say an employee knows the man trying notices the man trying to steal meat behind the butcher shop. The employee confronted the suspect shoplifter and they began fighting with each other. Some kind of a physical disturbance. Reporter have some point the suspect stopped breathing. They found one suspect unconscious with no pulse. The officers began doing cpr. The oakland unified School District is in the process of creating a new security plan, one that will no longer involve its own Police Department because the school board unanimously voted wednesday night to eliminate the 10 Member Police force by the end of december. It is a step in the right direction. We still have lots of work to do. Reporter she is part of the organizing project that has been lobbying to get rid of the Police Department for years. This School District does not need an entire Police Department. What we have been doing and are doing is trying to get people to shift their hearts and mind over what it looks like. Reporter and said we have to transform our mindset and behaviors toward black and brown students and families. We had a false sense of security if we said a couple sergeants and the chief and with 84 schools, we need specific plan. Reporter she said locked gates and surveillance. They are looking at the School Security officers with counselors trained. You would be amazed how they can dig deeper into the underlying cause. We have cause for Restorative Justice and more counselors and social emotional counselors and Trauma Services and more librarians and a more holistic approach. Reporter they respond to 2000 calls per school year and 2 to 3 calls are high priority and Oakland Police landfilling those. The Police Department is understaffed by 60 to 70 officers. We dont have the manpower to do what we are supposed to do and addressing the immediate needs of our school, we dont have the personnel. It is about being preventative. Reporter the planning process is set to begin this summer and the plan must be ready to go by january 1. Not a lot of time to figure this out. The study is completely remote which means you can be anywhere in the United States and anticipate. You contact the staff and we enroll you remotely and mail you the drug. Tell me more about this antibiotic. What kind is it and is it safe . It is a very common antibiotic. You may have heard of it called a z pack. It is used for a large number of things including bacterial respiratory, some eye infections. We are interested in studying it for covid19 for 3 primary reasons, the first is that it may have antiinflammatory properties and if it does, this may be useful for preventing the inflammatory responses and it has also been shown to have some Antiviral Properties. It is an antibiotic, but in the laboratory there have been some studies that have shown Antiviral Properties for some. The third reason is that some patients may have or may develop a secondary bacterial infection and since it is an antibiotic it can help. It looks as though it has frozen.
