Lake port is up there as well and 50s for others. 50s and 60s, they will be 60s and 70s near the water, or low 80s, if you are inland, you have 90s until the weekend. The Trump Administration is using a Global Pandemic 2 legal immigration. This would be the biggest cut in the century. When you are not bringing in specialized workers, the support staff who are u. S. Workers cannot be hired as well. The federation for American Immigration reform shared the movement, setting saying putting American Workers first, and to his credit he did just that. The ban will also impact seasonal employees and other workers with few exceptions. As talk about this more help reporter s decision could affect the bay area economy, but welcoming back to the roman, the president and ceo, welcome. Good morning, gasia. Will be the greatest impact here in the bay area or perhaps Silicon Valley as a result of this decision . Well, the economy is facing headwinds, and Silicon Valley is such an important area of the bay areas economy, as well as california and the countries, so we are all in competition, globally, to lead in innovation, and we rely heavily on people who are foreign in our country, to fill jobs, and this is maybe somewhat of a symbolic move, because at this very moment, there is not a lot of immigrants coming in the country, because of covid19. But it is an important symbol, it says the United States isnt prepared to compete by hiring the best and brightest people and allowing them to compete for jobs here, if they cannot go here. They will go somewhere else, and there are countries like canada have been aggressive in sending out the welcome flag saying, if you have the credentials, come to toronto, and we would love to have you there to dissipate in our growing tech economy. How soon will be see a real impact in terms of ideas not coming to the table, jobs being lost, exeter, here in the bay area. This is a period of time in the tech industries, the world is watching how Silicon Valley does. There are constant stories that predict Silicon Valleys fall because of various competitive pressures. This is a serious issue. We are not the only region in our country that relies on these visas, and in new york there is many more of these folks than we do. In terms of innovation and technology, americas leadership is at risk. If innovation is not led by america, then it has a huge impact on Silicon Valley in the future. Lets talk about whats happening, nationally, and locally. Some 36 million americans are out of work in the United States. Here in california, it is starkly high, higher than 16 . If the goal is to get people who are in this country and people already in our state employed, might this help do that . No, not at all, because the areas where h1 pvc visas, fairly have fairly low unemployment historically. When we allow Foreign Workers to come in that really boosts the economy in that critical area, which is the global leading area that drives economies, it boosts opportunities for American Workers as well. And for, i think one of your guests mentioned in an earlier comment, so overall economists do better when we allow the best people to come in and lead in innovation. It hurts American Workers otherwise. It hurts all workers. I read somewhere recently that two thirds of all workers in Silicon Valley are foreign born. Does it Say Something that Silicon Valley relies so much on the intelligence and expertise of people who werent raised here in the bay area . I think it says the Education System in america isnt being all it can be. Other countries, india is a phenomenal example, of graduating people with more Computer Tech sciences, engineering, and so forth. I think our system needs reform. Maybe this is a good time to do it, because we are really thinking with covid19, how we can do things differently and better. But, we are also a Global Economy and attracting people from other societies, who grew up with different cultures and ways of approaching problems. It is also a good way to drive innovation. And so we dont want to have an economy based on all the people being from the same place did it is beneficial to have other places, around this country, and around the world. All right. Jim, i will have to leave it here. The head of the bay area council, thank you for joining us this money. It was a pleasure, thank you. New this morning, the governors of new york, new jersey, and connecticut, are telling travelers coming from covid19 hotspots to self quarantine for 14 days. Now the adviser applies to people coming from nine states, including florida, texas, and arizona which are all experiencing a surge in covid 19 cases. The announcement comes as new york, new jersey, and connecticut, are finally seeing a drop in cases there, after experiencing the worst outbreak in the United States over the springtime. Texas, florida, and arizona have seen recent upticks in cases. Most 2. 4 million confirmed cases in the u. S. , and the coronavirus outbreak is still spreading. There are now 12 states reporting record high numbers of new infections, hardest hit at the moment, arizona, texas, and florida. Cases have been skyrocketing as well as the testing positivity rate. Here in texas, Governor Abbott is urging folks to stay home, that he did not issue a shelter in place order or require facemasks in public. Local officials now taking their own measures to stop the spread, including more testing. We need more immunity something we are working on. Co organizations. Other states are being more cautious. Louisiana has postponed the next phase of reopening until the current set of cases died down. Washington, becoming the latest state to require facial coverings in public. It is imperative that we adopt full measures to protect us all. We just cannot rush this virus to go away. President trump continues to insist it is due to more testing. He says his opponents are using the test results to discredit his containment efforts. We want to do testing, we want to do everything, but they use it to make it a read. 5400 coronavirus cases were reported on tuesday, a new daily record. That is the latest fromx2 news. The hospital and Insurance Industry say they will appeal about medical prices, backed by President Trump. Set to take effect on january 1st, it would require hospitals to disclose actual prices for many tests and procedures, such as an mri or csection delivery. These disclosures would increase competition and drive down costs for patients, according to President Trump. There are some who are itching to travel, but they are not sure how safe it is to get on the plane. Talking about travel safety as cases continue to climb, we are joined by the medical director of the healthcare service, heal. Dr. , thank you for joining us. There is no danger of social distancing, there was no one there, at least at the beginning. I think it will be easy, but we are going to be, people are going to be coming back, slowly. , yeah thats right. This time i still recommend people avoid nonessential travel. And the way to think about that, it is fairly nuanced. The first thing is, why are you traveling. So, if your goal is to travel for work or to help a family member, that makes sense. But still, you know, if you are planning to go to a pool party or beach party, for your summer plans, i would generally encourage people to avoid that kind of nonessential travel. The reason being, that we are seeing covid19 continue to grow in numbers across the United States. We just heard about texas or arizona, even california. Rates are continuing to increase. Especially for people in high risk categories, that is folks over age 60, people who have diabetes, hypertension, lung problems, they should especially be cautious and avoid traveling. And third, really think about where you are traveling. Some cities, some states, some countries even have much higher rates of covid19, and there is also restrictions in place, in some cases around visitors who come, abie asked to quarantine for up to 14 days. Lets say you have to travel , lets assume it is essential travel, to see her mother or relative somewhere, and you have to get on a plane. And you are taking all the precautions, wearing a mask, washing her hands, trying to stay away from people. Under those conditions, is it still relatively safe, if you have to get on that airplane . Well look, there is always a risk to travel right now, especially with the covid19 pandemic. So there is a risk. So, my suggestion is to first, think about the risk for yourself. And again if you are in one of those high risk categories, to avoid the travel. But also if you have decided to travel, to take those measures that you mentioned. So we know that facemasks work. They do not eliminate the risk of covid19, but they certainly do help. Hand hygiene was a bringing Hand Sanitizer, i strongly encourage you to bring Hand Sanitizer, to actually disinfect the area where you are seated and so on. If possible, there is evidence showing if you are sitting at the window seat, there is actually a lower risk of getting the respiratory diseases, such as the flu, and likely coronavirus as well. So there are things you can do. So ultimately it comes down to a risk assessment. And doing her best to stay safe, if you are deciding to still travel. Well right now, at the airport, there arent a lot of people, but we do have flights that are going out, full. If you are sitting next to someone, if you have to sit next to someone, do i not touch them . I mean, you know i am just a little worried about having to go somewhere, then being on a plane, like the way planes used to be. Right. Right. So, you know, the good news is that in an airplane, there is pretty good filtration, it is supposed to clear out some of the air particles. That being said, there has been Research Showing that you can still get some respiratory particles from people that are within one or two rows of you, as well is behind you. Right .
