But now i have daughters and cats. So, savannah. Savannah. What do you think, gasia . Goodness. I would say you did fantastic. Mrs. Sal castaneda is the very tippy top of the mountain peak. Let me tell you, i have met her a million times and she is a gem. I will say for me, im super allergic to cats so, you know, if for some reason i had to go back to the swiping dating thing, not back, ive never done it, but i think for me at this point if you have a cat, thats a nonnegotiable since i couldnt be within several feet of you. So its a no for me. Mike, whats been your experience . I think we have done enough on this topic already but i will not offend all those cat lovers out there. But i will say i love my dogs and i have always had dogs around and my wife as well. So good time, sal. We got to get going on the newscast and dive into the coronavirus. New statistics show the number of covid19 cases is actually on the rise, not only here in the bay area, but really across the state. Ktvus Sara Zendehnam joins us live this morning with more on this story. Sara, good morning. Reporter good morning. While an increasing cases was somewhat expected its still concerning to Health Experts. The California Department of Public Health reports the following numbers as of june 20th. There are now more than 173,000 total cases of coronavirus in california. Thats up 4500 cases from the last reported period a day earlier. 3500 are in hospitals. Thats the highest total number of hospitalizations since april 1st, according to the chronicle. More than 1100 patients are in the icu, and nearly 5500 people have died in california. The Department Says they expected more positive cases with an increase in testing. More than 3. 3 million tests have been conducted. Thats an increase of 84,000 tests over the prior 24hour reporting period. Lifting shelterinplace restrictions is another reason for the uptick. One uc berkeley Public Health expert we talked with said its easy to reopen parts of the economy but harder to shut them down again but he thinks that could be the next step if cases continue to climb. So i have been disturbed in the last week to see this gradual increase in the number of people being hospitalized, not dramatic, but its gradually increasing and thats a red flag and that tells me i think we ought to be pausing right now, taking a breath, seeing where things are going. Reporter as coronavirus cases continue to pop up and businesses open, the demand for Emergency Services says in the last two weeks they have distributed 3. 8 million n95 masks, 2. 3 million gowns, 1. 3 million face shields and 2. 1 million gloves. Now, as restrictions continue to be lifted, Health Experts still really want you to be careful when you go outside. So wear a mask, keep your distance and if you cant stay inside, they say thats your safest bet. Reporting live, Sara Zendehnam, ktvu fox 2 news. Sara, thank you for that. Many bay area testing sites are now using an alternative to the standard method of conducting tests for the coronavirus. The chronicle reports they are responding to complaints the long, flexible swabs that go deep into peoples nostrils are too uncomfortable. An investigation is now underway after a Police Officer in milpitas shot and killed a man with a knife. This incident happened yesterday afternoon when officers responded to a report of a stabbing that had occurred inside an apartment on north temple drive. Police say a 19yearold man armed with a knife confronted them. Officials say the officers ordered the man to drop the knife but he instead ran at the officers. Thats when an officer fired his gun. A neighbor describes the moment he heard the shots fired in what he describes as a quite and peaceful area. To hear the gunshots go off is terrifying and then to find out that a Police Officer did it, after all of riots and all the chaos happening in the world, its just a lot to take in. The neighbor describes the suspect as a quiet man who kept to himself. That man was taken to the hospital where he later was pronounced dead. A 34yearold man who was stabbed was treated and released. An investigation is underway up in the north bay this morning after a driver drove through a group of protesters. The protesters say that she did it on purpose. But the driver says demonstrators threw objects at her suv and she drove away out of fear. Ktvus greg liggins has the latest on the investigation. Oh, my gosh. Reporter video given to ktvu by a protester shows the moment a woman driving a white suv in santa rosa drove into the crowd. Police say the driver reported being surprised saturday night when encountering a group of more than 100 filling the streets of sonoma avenue and became fearful. From what she reported, she became scared, panicked, she had items thrown at her vehicle, and so she tried to get through the crowd as quickly as possible to get out of there. Reporter this is the Vantage Point of a bicycle escort leading protesters. Reflective sleeve and a headlight lighting the way. The cyclist tries to get the driver to slow down. Hey, slow down. Reporter but the vehicle slows briefly, then accelerates toward the crowd. From our standpoint, aside from us marching down the street that she was driving on, we had done absolutely nothing to provoke her to do that. Reporter video shows earlier encounters that night where drivers pulled to the side and drove through, no problem. Police say the suv incident was the only reported altercation that night. From what i gather, the protest was peaceful up until this incident occurred. Reporter organizers say a teenaged boy on a bike was slightly injured after being hit by the vehicle. But police say they have no reports of injuries. The driver, police say, eventually pulled over to report the incident and says she was assaulted. And then a subject on a bicycle that gave chase, i guess, according to her, punched her through her open windribed only as female has not been arrested. Police say they are investigating allegations from both sides. The peaceful dynamic of the protest billed as Family Friendly changed when that suv rolled up to the scene. Organizers say the driver endangered lives and needs to be held accountable. I need her to be charged. I really i cant i cant imagine living in a world where someone can just plow through a crowd of people with no repercussions. Reporter greg liggins, ktvu, fox 2 news. Renaming schools, coming up in our next half hour, the Movement Underway in San Francisco and the two schools at the center of the debate. But first, as racial tensions continue to run high across the country, a big question is how do we bridge the divide . What one Silicon Valley leader thinks needs to be done to help bring people together in the workplace. Power through your morning when you wake up on mornings on 2. You always have the power to know everywhere you go when you download the the Santa Clara County board of supervisor will discuss solutions that will declare racism a public crisis. They will bring up the matter at a Board Meeting today. There are 11 resolutions in all. They include expanding the understanding of racism, reviewing county ordinances to check for racial equality, and training all elected officials and staff on workplace bias. Racial discrimination in the workplace and beyond to talk more about this right now we are joined by one of the big Business Leaders in Silicon Valley, Charlie Moore is the founder and ceo of rocket lawyer. Charlie, good morning. Thank you for being with us. Good morning, pleasure to be here. Discrimination, racial profiling, you have experienced it and im not talking about years ago. I was reading an article this morning where you talked about an experience that happened recently in vermont. Could you share that . Well, of course. Listen, i am not alone. Almost every africanamerican male goes through it. In this case i was just driving my son, who is in college in the state of vermont, back to school, and was pulled over by a Highway Patrol officer, wasnt speeding. The roads were actually relatively slick and what was so, actually, upsetting, was there was someone who flew past me and wasnt stopped. Immediately, because i am trained in this sort of thing, of course, i talked to the officer and it was really unfortunate. He very quickly changed when he realized that i was an attorney. His tone changed and he became quite different. So we all go through this sort of thing and its nothing new. You know, charlie, i mean, very successful at what you do as the ceo of rocket lawyer. Africanamericans in Silicon Valley, theres not a lot of ceos right now, thats just a fact. And where would you say that we need to fix how do we fix this . I mean, does it start in the educational system . Great question. Certainly we need to broaden the lens through which we look at recruiting talent in Silicon Valley. We need to look at historically black colleges, for example, and then invest in that talent by investing in stem, science technology, engineering and math programs, but i think most importantly we need to embrace diversity and inclusion, update our policies, update our Employee Handbooks and make it really an advantage, a competitive advantage. Second, we need to invent and replace whats broken. Thats what we do best in Silicon Valley. We can invent and find new solutions to these problems. Lastly, for example, a Video Evidence, rocket lawyer, we are updating our mobile apps it eas more for people to capture Video Evidence and share it securely and in a privileged way with counsel. We hope that will help with the detergent effect as well as holding folks accountable. So invent and replace. The video is pretty powerful. We saw that with george floyd. I mean, if people dont have these cell phones out and are not capturing these moments, we are not sitting here having this conversation. Well, thats right. The sad martyrism of mr. Floyd, Breonna Taylor and so many others. Breonna taylor, for example, her murder was not captured on video and we can see how long thats dragging out. Ill tell you one other thing that Silicon Valley is i think doing right, several tech companies, suspended support for facial recognition because they understand that we are back to racial profiling. Those tools have been used for racial profiling, and so i do think theres a really positive impact that invention and innovation can play in justice. We just have to commit to it. You know, at the top you told that story about what happened in vermont and im curious, you know, here we are, we just celebrated fathers day. What do you tell your children, charlie, when it comes to discrimination and how do live their lives as they move forward . What a great question. I actually spent fathers day here in Northern California fishing with my sons. Thats why im here in this cabin right now. And we talk about it a lot. I have teenaged African American boys, and the first and foremost thing that i tell them is, listen, get home safe. Get home safe. And we have to tell our children that. I would just stop with that. I mean, we tell our kids to get home safe. Yeah. Charlie moore, founder and ceo of rocket lawyer. Appreciate the conversation this morning. Have a great week, charlie. You too, mike. San franciscos annual pride celebration is happening this weekend and there are many changes to the celebration due to the covid19 pandemic. However, the frame line pride showcase, the longest running and largest showcase of queer cinema is returning to pride to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the event in the city. Lets talk about this more by welcoming Paul Strothers to the 9, the director of exhibition and programming. Thank you for being with us, paul. Good morning and thanks for having us on. Thank you. Of course, of course. People are so used to watching films online. Do you think that this change might in any way increase the reach of your message . I do think so and also i think its really important to note that during these times, during the covid lockdown, many people are disabilities dont have access to festivals, so i feel as though having our online festival will give access to those folks who tend not to have access, and in the future is something that all festivals really have to think about serious, you know . Having some sort of ihybrid model, even when you dont have to. Lets talk about access and the fact that some of these films are completely free to people who would like to watch. Tell me a little bit about the first film, which is free, its called parade, made in 1970, and it shows modernday viewers a totally different view of pride than what we are so used to seeing. Yeah, this film directed by ronald chase, its the first pride official pride that happened in San Francisco in 1972, and his imagery of people, revelers just marching down the streets and it highlights the beginnings of pride and as this year is the 50th anniversary of pride, we thought its the perfect film to show at the start of the festival. Its free and we have partnered up with sf pride so people can have an understanding of the beginnings. And lets also highlight something old thats new begin. The documentary really celebrates Frankel Stephens who started curve magazine, which was the first lesbian magazine and it charts the history and the beginnings until now. Its a must see, and its a World Premiere so we are pumped to be doing this at the drive in. Its nice to have other people sort of close to you rather than the total solitude of watching alone in your living room. I imagine that you and other organizers have to miss the camaraderie, the coming together, the feeling that youre standing next to someone you may have never met but you share aspects of your life or at least a sentiment that brought you both there that day. Yeah, thats a really great point. Of course, we love inperson festivals, inperson screenings, having the directors come or the actors come from all over the world. However, 99 of our screenings will have live q as or pre recorded q as because we really want people to enjoy the festival experience of frameline online. Obviously, we cant replicate it but we are trying our best to do as much as we can so people can feel the festival vibe and we are really going to encourage viewing parties. This weekend i attended afi docks Film Festival and watched it with a few friends, watched the q a and it did feel close to the festival experience so we are going to be encouraging our patrons to do that as well. And while some of the movies are free, some of them require tickets. How are you working to make sure that your artists get paid in this very difficult time . We pay screening fees to the filmmakers and distributers and that money will trickle down to the filmmakers. Its important that we support artists in this challenging time for sure, yes. Its something we think about. Very good. Well, paul struthers, director of exhibition and programming at frameline 44, thank you for joining me. Have a wonderful pride celebration. You too. I have seen some of your work and i was actually quite shocked at it but happily so when you were saying things like, we are in a new civil rights movement, you were saying, hey, its okay to ask questions about racial differences. You were right to the point, a conversation that i quite frankly think we need to have. How much of that kind of topic, especially since its on a lot of peoples minds, is going to be on your show . Because its prevalent right now and relevant at this very moment, we have to talk about it, and theres no way around talking about it. You have to face look, in order to heal, you have to reveal. So we are going to reveal everything that america we are going to reveal americas sore eye so that we can heal americas sore eye, and that generational curse, if you will, is racism, and sexism. Its an equality an inequality. Everybody wants a piece of this pie but we would want it equally. In order to get rid of the generational curse of america, we have to talk about its past. So, yes, a lot of that will definitely be discussed on the tammi mac show right here. Tammi, this country is very divided and i think a lot of people would agree with your point of view, but maybe someone is watching right now who might be saying something like, oh, you know, we dont really have as big of a problem as people say we do, you know, obviously, they dont agree with you. How would you bring people who may not see your point of view into the fold, so to speak . Oh, thats an excellent question. Look, the only way to get knowledge is to see different sides and the thing i love about my show is that its not one sided. Its your side, its my side and its all those sides in between that come together to get an understanding of another person. And really thats all its about. If you can just understand and respect another persons values and morals, then i think we would all be more apt in what i you come from the radio background. That probably has served you well. I know that you know how to interview people. I have seen some of the interviews you have done because you put them up on youtube. Are you going to have some of your friends stopping by, like john legend, someone like that . That is highly possible, yes. Yes, thats highly possible that we could get them. And the owner of the Radio Station i work for is Stevie Wonder so we are hoping that he makes an appearance as well at kjlh in los angeles, he owns that station, and we talk about all of these issues on that platform as well. So its nice to kind of bring it to television on fox soul so that we can have an unfiltered and raw conversation about this. On monday im sorry, today, today we will be talking about the black lgbtqs role in the black lives Matter Movement and tomorrow we will be talking about healing and how do we heal our nation from all of this. So we are going to tackle every single thing possible and we are going to get celebrities in and we are going to get people that youve never heard of in so that you can hear their perspectives and their knowledge. Tammi mac, thank you so much for joining us. I cant wait to see the new show. We are going to get people information about that. And first of all, thank you for joining us. Thank you so much.
