Two people are dead and seven others were injured after an overnight shooting in charlotte, north carolina. Police say it happened at an impromptu block party that was a continuation of juneteenth celebrations. In addition to those hurt and killed, five others who were running away were hit by vehicles. Police do not have anyone currently in custody. Lease in seattle were investigating another shooting in that protesters own. One person was shot late last night, taken to the hospital. There is no word on any suspect. This is the second shooting in the capital hill occupy protesters own in the last two days. Seattle Police Released a body camera video from officers who try to locate the shooting victim. They say that they were greeted by a violent crowd that prevented officers safe access to the vi a 19yearold man died and a 33 yearold man remains in critical condition. An investigation is underway after a Police Officer shot and killed a man with a knife. The incident happened yesterday afternoon when officers responded to a report of a stabbing that had occurred inside an apartment on north temple drive. Police say a 19yearold man armed with a knife confronted them. Officials say they ordered the man to drop the knife. Instead, he ran at the officers. That is when an officer fired his gun. The man was taken to the hospital where he later died. A 34yearold man who was stabbed was treated and released. New statistics show the number of coronavirus cases on the rise, both here in the bay area and all across california. Katie views Sara Zendehnam joins us now with more details. Good morning, sarah. In california, there are more than thousands of cases. Thats up 4500 cases from the last reported. And day earlier. Nearly 3600 are in hospitals. That is the highest in recent history according to the chronicle. Almost 5500 people have died in california from coronavirus. Health experts say the increase is due to a combination of loosening shelter in place restrictions and an increase in testing. The California Department of Public Health says 84,000 tests have been conducted in the state over the prior 24 hour reporting period. That is 84,000 additional tests. As for worldwide numbers, the World Health Organization is reporting 183,000 new cases of the virus in just 24 hours. That is the largest oneday increase in new cases. More than 54,000 of those cases are in brazil. The u. S. Is not too far behind with the second largest number of new cases in a single day with 36,000. Restrictions are continuing to be lifted. Santa rosa police are investigating an incident between a driver and black lives matter protests. Hey, what the [ bleep ] a woman drove her suv through the crowd. She just finished her shift at a local hospital but protesters stopped her car. Someone threw a skateboard and a bicycle at her vehicle. They broke her windshield. The protesters say she intentionally drove into the crowd during a peaceful demonstration. I want her to face charges. Police say the driver is telling a much different story. From what she reported, she became scared, panicked, she had items thrown at her vehicle. She tried to get through the crowd as quickly as possible to get out of there. From our standpoint, aside from her marching down the street we saw her drive on, we did nothing to provoke that. One driver says she was punched in the pace through her open window. Police have not been contacted by anyone who said he was struck by the vehicle during the incident. The San Francisco board of education is expected to vote tomorrow on a measure that would cut the financial ties to police. A dozen Police Officers currently patrolled the campuses of San Franciscos public schools. Some school board members. 2 statistics indicating those officers unfairly target africanamerican students. They want to redirect the money for police to School Health and Wellness Programs instead. San Francisco Police had extra patrols at the legion of honor overnight. That is after the museum received a parts that some statues outside the building would be vandalized. According to the San Francisco chronicle, the legion of honor is closed because of the pandemic. The paper reports the director of the Fine Arts Museum in San Francisco says the staff was on a, quote, heightened state of alert after two statues in Golden Gate Park were pulled down on friday by protesters. Pam, one of those statues was the archbishop of San Francisco speaking out about that. Protesters brought down a statue of a priest. His statues have been targeted for years. Critics say he forced native americans to stay at missions after converting to catholicism or facing brutal punishment. He released in a statement saying, quote, what is happening to our society, a renewed National Movement to heal we are healing memories and correcting Police Brutality in our country. It has been hijacked by some. They turn it into a movement of violence, looting, and vandalism. Two San Francisco supervisors are responding to statues being taken down. They say the city should rename to schools. Matt haney says there are schools in the city named after Francis Scott key and junipero serra. He says the students should feel safe, seen and valued. Protesters toppled these statues on friday night. The city removed a statue of Christopher Columbus near coit tower on thursday. Aaron peskin says he understands why the statue was taken down. He says there are no plans to rename columbus avenue that renamesruns through his district. They will replace columbus with another historic italian american. Some are suggesting nancy pelosi. Santa clara supervisors say that they will bring up the matter at a Board Meeting today. There are 11 resolutions in all. Nascar is investigating after a noose was found in the garage of bubba wallace. He is the only africanamerican driver who races fulltime on nascars elite cup series. Just two weeks ago, he successfully pushed nascar to ban confederate flags at all events. They say that they are outraged. There is no place for racism in their sport. Santa clara county is adding two more pop up Testing Centers for the coronavirus starting tomorrow. There will be a total of 57 places to be tested all across the county. These tests are free. County health Officials Say that these centers are best for people who are not showing any symptoms.
