The son of one victim says he still wonders why his father died in that ferocious fire that wiped out the town of paradise. I dont know how he died. I will never know whether it was asphyxiation as the fire sucked the oxygen out of his house, smoke inhalation, or a heart attack from burning to death. Tuesday pg e pleaded guilty to 84 counts of Involuntary Manslaughter. It also accepted responsibility for starting the campfire. As part of its plea deal pg e will be sentenced to pay a 4 million fine. Thats the maximum allowed by law. A federal judge in San Francisco tentatively approved the pg e 58 billion dollars plan for emerging from chapter 11 bankruptcy. Under the reorganization plan people who lost family members, houses, and businesses in the wild fires and who have not been paid by Insurance Companies would be compensated from a trust fund of up to 13. 5 billion. Insurance companies would get 11 billion for paid claims. Government agencies would get 1 billion. Tomorrow the judge will hand down a final decision confirming the financial reorganization plan. Contra costa county is planning on allowing more businesses to reopen starting july 1st. The businesses where talking about include bars, indoor religious services, gyms, and bowling alleys. Prosecutor say officer their roles, the Police Officer who shot brooks in the back outside the wendys restaurant kicked him and offered no medical help for him for more than two minutes as brooks was dying. State senators are working on a plan to help renters that have been hurt during this covid pandemic and who are struggling financially. They are discussing a proposal that would allow landlords and tenants to reach a new payment agreement that would keep tenants from being evicted during this crisis. If they cant work out a deal the state will get the landlord tax credits equal to the unpaid rent. The state with and assume the financial burden and allow renters 10 years to pay back unpaid rent. More details of the plan still has to be worked out before any votes are taken in the legislature. The city of San Francisco is seeing an increase in renters leaving their leases. We have seen a huge increase in an appointment. 50 of our young people who are employed have either been laid off, hours cut. Reporter erica sauers is the director of education and employment at first place for you. Her Organization Provides services and houses more than 400 foster youth around california. Since the corona virus hit half of the young people they serve have been laid off or furloughed. They have seen dozens of people apply for housing. Many are stuck on wait lists for the foster youth they might be losing that access to the school housing, but they are also really losing that access to the income to even rent a room or even go in with a roommate and get an apartment. Reporter homelessness isnt the only issue facing former foster kids. Some have children of their own to care for. Many have Mental Health challenges and food scarcity is more common for them there is a huge crisis right now and a huge gap reporter lawmakers have recognized this problem. Governor gavin newsom last month announced a 42 Million Investment into services for foster kids some of that will go to kids aging out of the system. The as implement filtering is asking for an additional 4 million to help foster youth ages 18 through 21. We want to keep them on their path to success. Otherwise, if they dont they become a permanent part of our caseload forever. Reporter the state has anticipated 54 billion dollars budget shortfall. More than 1000 animals roam the 400 acres in the hills of Sonoma County just east of santa rosa. To keep guests safe you have to wear a face mask there. The safari vehicles will have barriers separating groups from each other as they explore the grounds. A woman said she found five ropes around the lake that looked like a noose. However, other Community Members have said the ropes were for exercise equipment. Target is also planning to give hourly employees a one time to hundred dollar bonus as a thank you for working through the pandemic. The Rideshare Company lyft is vowing to transition to 100 either electric or zero emission vehicles by the year 2030. The company made that announcement yesterday, announcing their plan to work with automakers, rental companies, and independent contractors to help create, quote, cleaner, healthier, and more equitable communities. Lyft says it plans on preventing or the plan there doing would prevent tons of pollutants from entering the atmosphere. A 70yearold book store in north beach has reopened after facing permanent closure. We are talking about city lights , that iconic bookstore in north beach. It closed in march like many others due to the pandemic. Then in april the owners announced their store might not survive financially. Customers stepped up. A small town of Washington State is now printing wooden money to keep the local economy going. The town of 10 i know is printing hundreds of 25 wooden cards to be handed out to families in need who can spend it anywhere in town, including gas stations, grocery stores, even one restaurant.
