Reporter on tuesday researchers from Oxford University released details on a clinical study, 2100 patients at random were given the steroid dexamethasone for 10 days. Results from the preliminary study found the mortality rates improved by 30 . This drug dexamethasone reduced the risk of dying by about one third of people and breathing machines, ventilators. And about 1 5 of people who did not need the breathing machines but did need oxygen in hospital. Reporter the drug is readily available and has been around for years used to treat arthritis and asthma. It is different from other treatments, remdesivir and hydrochloric from the target the virus. The steroid suppresses a patients immune system response to covid19. It decreases inflammation and that is what the virus does to very sick people and the people arrested raiders. This is only one study but it is clear from this study that what we know today is that dexamethasone will reduce the risk of death. Mike mccormick, one of the true gentlemen of the sport and when you talk about his career as, p amazing. He signed at the age of 17 with the new york giants, played as a teenager and when the giants moved to the west, the San Francisco giants in 1967, Mike Mccormick became the first giant picture ever to win the cy young award. He was 22 and 10 that year. The reported all times allstar died peacefully at his home in North Carolina on saturday. He had a long struggle with parkinsons disease. Like i say, a true gentleman, he was 81 years old. On a personal side i got to know Mike Mccormick pretty well over the years. At various giants event and all those fantasy camps through the years, he was just a great storyteller and one that stands out in particular, he knew i was a big beatles fan and told me about the time when the beatles played the last concert at candlestick park. He got the equipment manager because the giants were out on the road, to stay back and sign baseball for him. He kept it over the years, eventually auctioned it off. He used the money to help pay for one of his granddaughters college educations. One of the many stories he told me and i learned a lot about baseball from Mike Mccormick.
