Todays funeral comes after floyd died when a Minneapolis Police officer trying to arrest him jammed his knee on floyds neck for more than eight minutes as he desperately pleaded that he could not breathe. He did not enter a plea. Chauvin wore handcuffs and a mask. It was on closed circuit tv from a maximum security prison. The charges against him include seconddegree murder. His bail was set at 1. 25 million. He is due back in court on june 29th. Democrats introduced new legislation focused on ending Police Brutality and ending excessive force. They took a knee for 8 minutes and 46 seconds in a moment of silence to honor george floyd. They introduced the justice in policing act. It would require officers to have body and dashboard cameras, banjo colds, no knock warrants and create a National Database to track police misconduct. A profession where you have the power to kill should be a profession that requires highly trained officers who are accountable to the public. For black americans, disproportionately and unjustifiably experience hands at the police. The bill also lowers the bar for qualified immunity which Shields Police from lawsuits. In sacramento, key leaders have introduced legislation to make it illegal for police to use carotid holds. The method also known as a sleeper hold locks blood flow to the brain to render someone unconscious. It can cause serious injury or death. Major Law Enforcement did not immediately say whether they would oppose the legislation. Last week, Governor Newsom said he would sign the bill if approved by lawmakers. In San Francisco, a mural that honors the recent black lives matter mural has been painted over five times in less than a week. Our reporter shows us a message that artists want to convey on the rock. Reporter bernal rock is a neighborhood landmark and a Community Bulletin board, expressing sentiments of many in the area. Last week, an artist wanted to mark this moment in time. I first painted this rock on wednesday to say black lives matter on the front. By thursday morning, it had been painted over. That has continued to happen. This is the fifth time now that i have got two other artists helping me paint the message back. Thanks for painting again. Yeah, sure. Reporter she acknowledges that the messages are usually left in place and respected from anywhere from several days to a few weeks. She says her neighbors confronted one woman who was caught painting of the message. We dont know if she has painting over every time, but we talked to a woman who was painting over the rock. Black people do not have access to the same things that other people do. She says for those concerned about the issue, they should consider donating to a charity to uplift people of color or disband the police.
