All four former officers involved in his arrest are facing charges. Derek chauvin had already been charged with thirddegree murder and seconddegree manslaughter. He will face an Additional Charge of seconddegree murder. Three other exofficers are aiding and abetting Second Degree murder and the Attorney Says the charges are bittersweet. We cannot celebrate because an arrest is not a conviction and we want justice. Even after the charges were announced protesters coastto coast continue to demand for justice and thousands filling the street for a night of Peaceful Demonstrations calling for an antipolice brutality and for the first time George Floyds sun visited the location where his father died and now the site of a growing memorial. He knocked down with demonstrators bowing his head where his father gasped for air. Every night my family would get in touch with my father. No man or woman should be without their father. An autopsy said george floyd tested positive for the coronavirus. They state he was asymptomatic and his lungs showed no damage. More protests for social justice are planned for across the bay area today and Police Reporting no major problems from large rallies last night and oakland and San Francisco in these videos from overhead show just how big the crowds were. Oakland police just told us they only made one arrest and issued no citations and there were no reports of looting or vandalism from the demonstration. Protesters gathered near city hall at the intersection of 14th and broadway just before the 8 00 p. M. Curfew and they were challenging the curfew and support Peaceful Demonstrations. They were hit with tear gas in oakland monday night and the police kept their distance last night as officers were staged several blocks away. Officers did not have to move in but the police chief says they were ready to take action to disperse a crowd if any violent agitators began disrupting the demonstration. Its important to our Community Knows we dont want to use these and when we do today are judicious and we need to ensure the protection of those protecting our community. Oakland police say pass demonstrations violent agitators have tossed bottles and rocks at officers. The chief defense of the departments crowd control tactics was in response to a letter sent to the department. Two civil rights attorneys wrote about the use of tear grass and fascist bank grenades of peaceful protests and how its a violation of their own policy. Attorney say the use of tear gas at eight and broadway on monday, june 1st, prior to the apm curfew was precipitous, excessive and endangered innocent people. The protests in San Francisco went past the cities apm curve free. Like oakland the demonstration stayed peaceful. I want to see what happens after this moment. Is the continued engagement of allies to dismantle the system that is disproportionately killing us. The demonstration began late in the afternoon as people of all ages and backgrounds and ethnicities gathered at Mission High School and rallied and marched for hours ending up at the hall of justice on brian street. Demonstrators say they were happy to hear that all four officers in the joint board case are facing charges. Protesters say they want to see convictions and long sentences and real change made in the justice system. San francisco lifting its curfew and now city leaders do not see a need to continue with the overnight restrictions. It may be moot but a special meeting of the board of supervisors is scheduled to officially vote on whether or not to sustain or reject the curfew order. San Francisco Police chief says his officers were on hand to protect lives and keep order but they are angry about what happened to george floyd. Just because we wear a uniform, it doesnt mean that we dont feel the same emotion as others. We have to remain professional and treat everybody with respect. Chief scott said the departments tactic is to allow people to exercise their First Amendment rights and demonstrate peacefully. Officers will only moving one lives or property are threatened. Cities that have curfews expiring include San Francisco and san jose. Alameda and Contra Costa County have curfews in effect from 8 00 p. M. Until 5 00 a. M. Antioch starting earlier at 6 00 p. M. Hundreds of people have been arrested during the recent protests around the bay area and how prosecutors will proceed with those cases remains unclear. In San Francisco theyve arrested or cited 146 people. The Alameda CountySheriffs Office arrested 156. And san jose has arrested 180 since protests broke out on friday. Legal experts say many cases will never see the inside of a court room. The difficulty with this mass protest arrest is they are easy to make but very difficult to prosecute in court because of the level of proof required in court. Stephen clark is a former prosecutor in Santa Clara County and said the primary focus of police during protests is getting people off the street rather than building an airtight case. We know the identity of a suspected looter shot and killed by police in vallejo.
