Oakland police just told us they only made one arrest and issued no citations and there were no reports of looting or vandalism from the demonstration. Protesters gathered near city hall at the intersection of 14th and broadway just before the 8 00 p. M. Curfew and they were challenging the curfew and support Peaceful Demonstrations. They were hit with tear gas in oakland monday night and the police kept their distance last night as officers were staged several blocks away. Officers did not have to move in but the police chief says they were ready to take action to disperse a crowd if any violent agitators began disrupting the demonstration. The chief defense of the departments crowd control tactics was in response to a letter sent to the department.
