People are expected to be inside their homes until 5 am monday morning. The mayor didnt specify how the curfew would be enforced. The protest started peacefully. Groups gathered at noon. They marched through the streets to call for justice. But when the sunset city Officials Say that reports of criminal activity started coming in. And, they say that the department responded to people who were hurt including Public Safety officers. She also said that there are multiple intentional spires set. They have been in touch with the governor and have the National Guard on standby to help. The mayor says that there are you doing with the major budget deficit along with other issues. So violent protests isnt where the fund should go. The last thing i want to do is have to divert money and resources to help deal with the situation. So, im asking the folks who are out there, doing what they need and knowing what they should be doing. To go home. Again, the curfew is starting at 8 pm tonight and tomorrow morning. Reporting live. Fox two news. Doesnt have targeted some wellknown stores in emeryville last night. We want to show you video of whats happening. You can see them storming into several stores. This is at the bay Street Shopping Center. Its a unique little store. Also went into best buy, lane bryant and more. They say that they raced out of the stores with a large amount of merchandise. The mayor reacted to the looting during a live interview. I think that its really a good time to have this conversation about race in this country and, not look to the federal government because they have abandoned us and our community but, really to Work Together with our neighboring cities and to come together and solve all these problems locally. Police from several east bay agencies raced to the scene and chased them out of the shopping center. So far there is no official word on the number of arrest or just how much merchandise was all in. Target has announced that it is Closing Stores across the country because of the violent protests. The temporary closures affect 18 target stores here in the bay area including the stores in oakland, San Francisco and san jose. They said that the move is to ensure the safety of target workers and customers. Several bay Area Target Stores have been heavily damaged. Including the target store. A Coalition Including ones here in the bay area have all signed a joint statement calling for an end to the violent protests. The Statement Reads in part, how does it make sense to any objective person to demonstrate the really real anger over the death of george floyd by burning down small businesses. A post office, a library and shops. These rioters disguised as protesters must stop the violence and the damage that they are doing to our cities. And have assigned above those in san jose. And, other Seattle Police departments. Has a lot of people asking when will it end. And what can be done to take a giant step forward in our society . With more on that, we welcome and barbara lee on the phone. Good morning. Good morning im sure you seen the aftermath here. In San Francisco of course, all across our country. Theres been racial unrest before but this seems to be different. So, do you agree with that and if so, tell me why. Well, i think of what we are witnessing now is really people saying enough is enough. And, as an africanamerican woman many respects. Had to share this with you. This is in the 70s. And, i have to talk about how to be safe on the streets of america. And, we are now in 2020. And we still see these murders taking place of unarmed African American men and women. So, people are really furious. And, they are sad. So, we have to really look at what has taken place in terms of the context when you look at systemic racism when you look at centuries of discrimination and oppression and the lack of opportunities and injustices when you look at injustices of the healthcare system. We have seen disproportionate numbers of African Americans with latin ask people contracting the virus. And, dying disproportionately from the virus. When you see the unequal education for low income africanamerican students. When you see poverty rates. When you look at all the social terminals and underlying issues. That give rise to what has taken place now. People are fed up. Im happy that they are protesting and make sure that they engaged in this democratic process of peaceful protesting and, also remembering those elections are coming up. Because, the white house has been promoting an environment that allows for violence to take place when you have a president talking about if you lose you will shoe. What is that say to children in the country . In terms of violence . Let me ask you this. If the murder of george floyd is the tipping point, what needs to be done right now . To move forward . Because we cant continue to ravage our cities. We cant destroy our cities. We cant destroy homes and businesses. We have to not let that take away the focus and we cant lose sight of the reason for the anger. Yes, with the call for peaceful protest but i tell you what, we cant tell people to stop. We dont want people to go back to what was the normal in terms of not recognizing what systemic racism and what communities of color specifically the African American community. And, 400 years, we are commemorating the first enslaved africans coming to america. So this is generational. And, so we need people to organize. We need people to elect elected officials are going to engage in real structural changes. We also have to make sure that peoples anger doesnt turn to violence. In losing fight over we are protesting in the street. Is there still hope in your help. Theres a lot of hope. First of all, when i was born, my mother you know, needed a c section and they would admitted to the hospital. She almost died. They had to deliver me using forceps. I almost didnt make it into this world. I couldnt go to Public Schools because i was black. My dad was in the military. We can buy a house when i was a child. So, a lot has changed. Ive seen a lot, personally. But ive also seen a lot of oppression and injustices. Theres so much work to be done. I hope that people in this country and in my district especially realize we have to run this lap of the race. And, we cannot allow it to be destroyed and we have to make sure that we move forward because, ive seen a lot. Africanamericans have seen a heckuva lot. Doctor meyer angela says, we have been fighting. Underground railroad week leaders. Harriet tubman. You know, is to put this in context. So, tomorrow im introducing a bill calling for racial healing and transformation to begin the set up a commission so that the public comes to grips with and learned about the historical facts of the genocide of the native American People of the slave trade and of the chinese exclusion act. And, all the underlying issues that havent quite been addressed nor this country. And, theres no way that i would get tired and give up and say that theres no hope because, ive seen a lot. And im very hopeful in our young people because, they get it. They see the system. They understand the injustices. They want true structural systemic change. We have to conclude there. But thank you so much for your insights. Thank you for your personals spots as well as we hope that the violence stops and hopefully our country and our society can take a leap forward. Thank you. Lets go ahead and check in with claudine and we are in for rosemary today. Talk a little bit of weather, shall we . Well, we have a little bit of a cloudy cool day. But a dry day. So, wrapping up the rain. The thunderstorms that you know we can take a look. Its just clouds that are out there on the radar. They kinda moved in the last two hours. Theyre going to be with us throughout the day today. We are under the influence of slight onshore flow. Currently, 58 in santa rosa. And, 62 in oakland and 60 at san jose. So that low pressure system is now tracking to the north and east of us. And in its place going to start being under the influence of High Pressure. Its going to bring us warm temperatures but today, the clouds will stick with us. Not bad out there. About average. 76 in santa rosa. 70 degrees out at the coast. As we get into tomorrow, pressure builds in. And we will really start to warm up on tuesday and wednesday it looks like is the peak of the heat finally starting to pull back as he gets a thursday. Theres no rain making its way into the forecast. Theres a chance into saturday and even that doesnt look like a terrific chance but we will see hopefully it will come our way. Sometimes they can skirt that as well. And, 69 the bay. 65 at the coast. And feeling that warm up. And, plenty of sunshine, and boil for one temperatures. The low 90s. About 80 around the bay. And then, wednesday turning into the middle 90s in middle 80s around the bay. So, and when its going to heat up into the middle 90s. Really not feeling until friday. We will have the onshore flow with us. Get ready for the heat and maybe enjoy the Cool Temperatures today. Have a good day out there. George floyd protests are going international. We will tell you how people in london are showing their support. And talking with mark navarro about everything thats happening in the bay area and across the country. And, well talk about that response, coming up. Than a dozen cities have no imposed curfews that we have seen continued protest in last 24 hours. And, the discussion has grown from the death of george floyd to what protesters are saying here in this debate on how authorities can and should respond. Midmarch here to talk more about all this. Good to talk to you. Good to see you. Lets talk about this. Curfews as they are being imposed. And all the cities. At this point, everyone is just trying to stop the momentum. We also have sunday night. Do you expect that things are going to calm down. Certainly things have calmed down a little bit. This is the combination of all that. I think its a combination of all that. But the deployment of the National Guard throughout different states. Each one of them is seeing a trend of terms and perception of people. Not as initially it was to share the outrage. For the social injustice that took place in minneapolis. And, the place that is looting and taking place. They are starting to impose upon themselves and others that they dont have that message be sent. They wanted to be a message of change and not to focus on the negative part of looting. I think youre seeing a combination of things like you said. And i think we made it a turn towards the positive. How important is it . And the agencies you have used the term bad actors. We heard the mass San Francisco talking about it. And reinforcing how important they think that the social justice discussion is. We have heard from the police union saying, we also think that this is an important discussion. Everywhere that you hear people talking on this, they want to reiterate we know that we have to have this discussion about racial inequality about how we are treating the African American population in this country. Its important to know, that they made sure to make that point. Thats every bit of trying to keep that focus. The challenges we dont want people to think solely about the broken windows and the damage. Those are dramatic and the video footage of that is impactful. The key thing is to make sure that we focus and we dont lose sight of this discussion. And, they want that discussion to take place. They dont want us you bad apples. There are 800,000 sworn officers throughout the United States. And thats a small percentage of the population of united dates. And they feel as they witnessed. A few moments ago they have recognized a discussion to take place we cant do it until we are able to call it the Community Unrest and to go out of their homes. As a first responder, its interesting, is ive seen more Police Officers post and they want a quick police chief posting and expressing outrage. This is something that now, it seems unprecedented in what weve seen. That some the lawenforcement agencies are taking a stand against what happened to george floyd. That may change the way that protesters interact with them as well as there on the streets. And, is it although saying that they could happen to anyone. Well, a Police Officer you know they are neighbors. Not only are they Police Officers but you know they want their communities to be safe. They recognize the discussion that needs to take place. The good part is, its been brought to the front forefront. It is an unfortunate circumstance that has driven that. But this discussion. Whats interesting is, we woke up this morning here he looked in minneapolis and san jose, its just two examples what youve seen is a tremendous effort by volunteers of varying races and ages coming up cleaning those areas. So if you look at what the third precinct was damaged in minneapolis. That area is pretty well cleaned up. It was almost spotless. Which tells me theres a desire amongst the public and the community to have that discussion but in a positive manner and they are seizing the opportunity to say, we dont want our communities to be like this. And, its really neat. 24 hours ago we all have the expectation that tonight could be a rough night throughout the country. Now we are looking ahead. Do we think that this is going to get worse before changes . And, are we in this for the long haul . A little bit of both. So, theres been a change of those there. Throughout the state. And, we would allow you to protest. And, theres that to disperse those groups to convey a message. Being more aggressive. Youre seeing them use tear gas and disperse the crowd not allowing this people to come out to do damage. So, youre starting to see more aggressive approaches to get control of it. You are seeing Police Officers, natural guard. And, just what we are all seeing is this tenor and its starting to kind of point off a little bit. So i think what we will see is this starting to wane in continuing to decrease. This is 72 hours. We will continue to follow that. And as always, we appreciate your insight. We will continue to have this and addressed also as well. What you are seeing across the bay area. Thank you, mark. Thank you. You have a good day. All right. Thank you. Thousands of people have taken to the streets of los angeles. They are trying to stop protest from happening tonight in Southern California. Stay with us.
