It stems from what started as a second day of largely Peaceful Demonstrations over the death of george floyd, while he was in that Minneapolis Police custody. Overnight, there were reports of buildings is set on fire, and widespread looting and downtown minneapolis. Overhead video shows dozens of people carrying items out of a target store yesterday evening. A person was shot and killed during a looting that happened at a pawn shop. One person is in custody for the shooting and they do not yet know what led up to it. Today was a different night of protesting then it was the night before. There was a lot of stuff getting thrown around. I stayed back and, for my own safety. It was worse down there, on east lake street. What are people actually doing. Why are they protesters have been calling for the four Police Officers involved in fluids death to face criminal charges, the mayor of minneapolis as they should be held criminally responsible after cell phone video showed a Police Officer by the name of derek chopin kneeled on the neck up george floyd for several minutes as he repeatedly gasped for air and became unresponsive and died. Ktvu has received letters describing inhumane conditions and overcrowded prisons. The state says they are doing more deep cleaning, separating inmates and providing masks and sanitizer to them. So far there have been two outbreaks of the virus, affecting inmates and staff. The fact of the matter is there are hundreds of people using the same toilet, and the same sink, having food compared prepared communally by people who may be infected. Neighbors and Business Owners in the ashbury neighborhood are heading to court. They want to block San Franciscos plan to set up sanctioned homeless camps. They are suing over plans to create a safe sleeping site for the homeless, with 40 tents and an empty lot where a Mcdonalds Restaurant used to be. The possible spread of the coronavirus is warned about, as well as crime and drug use. San franciscos supervisors asked the mayor to take action, saying they will need to move more Homeless People into hotel rooms. The city is required to release 800 hotel rooms, and they say that the rooms are only being used for those in the shelter system lab tested positive for covid19, or are at high risk. The city will plan to spend 105 million for hotel rooms for the homeless, and hundreds of rooms are still empty. San francisco is a new program to help low income workers that contract covid19, and dont have a way to pay bills. According to the chronicle, the citys right to recover program will provide those who miss work two weeks of wage replacement, nearly 1300 based on San Franciscos minimum wage. The program will be funded through the Charitable Relief Fund for those impacted by the coronavirus. Schools will be looking a lot different when they reopen this fall. State superintendent republican tony thurman said facemasks will be mandatory and temperature checks will be taken for students and staff. Also, expect smaller class sizes and hybrid classrooms where some students come in, and others will participate online. A more detailed guideline on the changes as expected the by next week. Tony thurman said the state needs to come up with 500 million in order to supplement distance learning.
