Here in california, we have now seen 100,000 cases of the illness and more than 3,800 deaths. The true global number is probably much higher. California now has more than 101,000 cases of the coronavirus and nearly 3,900 people have died. A Police Shooting in hayward today left a man hospitalized at 12 45 this afternoon in a residential neighborhood near bahamas and Sleepy Hollow avenue. They reported to a man on a motorcycle chasing someone and banging on doors. Officers say the suspect approached them with a weapon and they opened fire. Suspect is in his 60s and was taken to the hospital. Hayward police say an internal investigation is now under way. A Virtual Memorial Service was held tonight for an east bay teen killed in her home more than 20 years ago. This is the 26th annual memorial for jenny lynn of Castro Valley on what would have been her 40th birthday. She was a talented musician and straight a student. They spoke about the charitable work being done in honor of her memory. At least 50 students in the Castro ValleySchool System has received scholarship awards that aim at inspiring young, promising musicians to strive for excellence in music and academic studies. A group called concerned citizens is suing over a proposed safe sleeping site for the homeless. They are allowing tents to set up on an empty lot that used to be the site of a mcdonalds next to golden gate park. The group is concerned about the risk of transmission of coronavirus as well as crime and drug use. New data from the Governors Office shows that San Francisco is lagging behind other bay area counties in securing hotel rooms for the homeless. The head of the citys Human Services agency says it is not quite that simple. He says that the states numbers include hotel contracts that the city secured for essential workers that are not homeless but didnt want to risk bringing the coronavirus home. The supervisor has been fighting to get more homeless into hotel rooms. She says the Mayors Office has been slow to response. We have been hearing excuses. Being told our county is doing better than anyone else. When you look at the facts, that is not the case at all. The county has contracts for more than 2,400 hotel rooms and says that it placed more than 1,000 Homeless People in rooms. An employee at a whole foods store in San Francisco tested positive for covid19. The Mission Local news website reports the worker at the whole foods at 24th and sanchez has the virus. The store manager confirmed the diagnosis but would not share additional details. The manager said the employee was sent home to quarantine and the store under went a deep cleaning. New at 11 00 tonight, a new poll reveals only half of americans would get a Coronavirus Vaccine should one become available. According to the ap poll, 49 said they plan to get vaccinated. 31 said they will not get the vaccine and 20 said theyre not sure. Concerns about side effects are overwhelmingly the top concern among those who plan to avoid the vaccine. It is a little frustrating knowing restaurants and other venues can begin to open up. A more cautious approach to reopening a north bay county. Now Business Owners are becoming frustrated. It feels like summer out there. It is harder than ever for people to get out of the heat. New guidelines are being issued for cooling centers as temperatures soar across the state. They need to follow similar rules as businesses that are reopening. That includes checking temperatures and physical distancing for staff and visitors. Centers need to follow cdc policies for cleaning the facilities and encourage sick Staff Members to stay at home. In the south bay, five cooling centers have opened. Theyre at the may fair, roosevelt, cypress, seven trees and Camden Community centers. Covid19 has cutoff normal avenues for relief for Homeless People and others who may be without air conditioning and need a break from the heat. Other times, people would be able to go to the malls or movie theaters to get a reprieve from the heat. Right now the only options are the five cooling centers. The five san jose locations will be open tomorrow from 1 00 p. M. To 7 00 p. M. But there are no plans for the centers to open on fridays as temperatures cool down.
