He went to walmart where he took a hammer out, broke a glass ammunition display case, assaulted the clerk there, removed a box of shotgun shells, fled the store. Reporter he took off in a monster with personalized license plate got beat. Dash cam video shows deputy lee catching up with him on highway 29, but he took off and refused to stop. Nylander turned on when airport access road and stopped his car. Mister nylander fully exits the vehicle and brings the shotgun up and points it at deputy lee and the other responding deputy. Reporter deputy lee fired two shots, both missed. The gas is expelled from the shots. Nylander then walked away from the deputies with his hands raised while carrying the shotgun. Deputy lee decides to shoot two more shots. Reporter we are stopping the video before he is hit in the buttocks and back of his neck. He died at the scene. When deputy lee stopped his vehicle and saw that shotgun he was definitely in fear for his life. Reporter there was evidence to suggest the suspect was suicidal. This is a tragedy for everyone involved. As a tragedy for mister nylander and his family and is also a tragedy for deputy lee and his family. San francisco supervisors moved up the timetable today for permanently closing the jail of the hall of justice. The Sheriffs Office will now close the seismically unsound jail by november 1st instead of july of next year. The measure was introduced by supervisor sandra fewer. She says right now the jail population is down because of the covid19 outbreak , which justifies moving up the closure date. Critics worry the move will increase the population and San Franciscos other jails and jeopardize social distancing. Since the pandemic began, scientists have been collecting genomes of the new coronavirus from infected Patient Samples around the world. Now the Los Alamos National laboratory published a study saying a new strain has emerged and is becoming dominant. The study reviewed 6000 of the genomes and scientists elsewhere say it brought interesting results. The data shows it may be more contagious than the original strain. Reporter an Infectious Disease specialist at Uc Berkeley School of Public Health says whats significant is the study is focused on a spike protein that enables the virus to infect humans. The function of the spike protein is to to enter into the human cell. It began spreading in europe in early february and when introduced to new regions it rapidly becomes the dominant form. And thats how it goes into the next couple of days, a degree or two of warming each day as we go in towards the bay area thursday, friday, saturday. One temperatures get up there. So these are the forecast highs for tomorrow and you can see 86 is pretty warm. 86 in fairfield, 86 in santa rosa pick along the coast there will be patchy fog now in the fog will be coming and going on and off like it was today. I think there will be very little sunshine right at the beaches. Be ready for that. Then we will see more son at the beaches as we get in towards thursday and friday. Here is the forecast in terms of temperatures and longrange. What i want you to notice, from this peak temperature here, on friday it works its way back down as we head into saturday and sunday. So the plan is more of the same, except warmer. And certainly thursday, friday and saturday low 90s and lent and if you look at the low numbers, the mid80s, thats pretty warm. Thats redwood city and fremont. And in the bottom layer on thursday, friday, saturday, thats the beaches. So the sun is going to be out, not too bad.
