We still have team spirit. We have zoom calls in the end, invaluable perspective. I will definitely want to continue sports because i love the people and the sport. This really put me in my place. Sports are an amazing opportunity and to have them taken away is terrible but i feel bad feeling sad about my season when there are people who have family members suffering and the healthcare workers putting their lives on the line. Its going to be another beautiful may weekend which means a lot of folks outdoors are enjoying the lovely weather. Sara zendehnam joins us live and says with a shelter in place restrictions in effect some cities are making it possible for people to get out and enjoy some sunshine with a few changes, good morning. Those changes include the slow Streets Program, these are temporary programs put into place during the shelter in place order. Because there are fewer cars on the streets it should not affect travel much, redwood city is one of many bay area cities now participating in the program. We stopped by some of the streets closed in the first phase of its program this will make up five miles of road, san mateo, foster city, oakland, San Francisco and alameda have similar initiatives, the streets are closed to make it safer to walk and bike while giving room to maintain distancing. Emergency vehicles and people in these areas can drive on the streets but the hope is there will be less traffic and cars will drive slower, oakland was the first to launch the program last month, days ago the city added five more miles of street closures. San francisco already had multiple stretches blocked and plans to block off more, presidio launched a program last week which continues today from 7 00 until 4 00. Roads are shutdown to create a loop of paved trails. We want to make sure people are safe so if you get close to people where your masks. Otherwise, be safe and come with people that you are living with already. Do not gather in groups. Enjoyed the space and stay healthy. Palo alto is also considering closing some of its streets. Reporting live, ktvu fox 2 news. A new poll shows that bay area residents strongly support shelter in place orders, this is a new poll conducted by the Uc Berkeley Institute of intergovernmental studies taking a poll of registered voters in california finding 68 of people in the bay area are worried that orders will be ending too soon, the poll also showed a partisan divide with 87 of the people who identify themselves as strong liberals supporting stayathome policies and 24 of strong conservative californians said the same. Two more counties are preparing to defy the governors stayathome orders, officials from yuba county and setter county will allow some businesses to reopen as long as they follow social distancing guidelines, this includes dining restaurants, gyms, salons, malls and tattoo partners, in yuba county there are 19 cases and one person has died, in Sutter County there are 31 cases and two debts. Pacifico will be out in force patrolling city beaches, officers are enforcing the order that only allows People Living within five miles of the beach to come to the pacifica seashore and the stayathome crackdown is working, there were only a handful of surfers on the beach when we arrived there yesterday morning, that is after pacifica Police Issued hundreds of citations last weekend. Those planning a trip to the beach in santa cruz may want to consider another plan, this weekend all county beaches are closed between 11 00 and 5 00 p. M. Beach visitors are only allowed to cross the sand to swim or surf, lingering on the beach is not prohibited and beach chairs and coolers are banned. Protesting across the state against the Governors Beach closure decision including in orange county. This is sad. For the most part people kept in line with social distancing orders but that was not the case with most of the protesters, many were not maintaining six feet apart. One of the big takeaways is simple and basic. Wash your hands, stay clean, if you are stick stay home and if you are out stay away from those that are sick. Its common sense at newport be social distancing, not a soul on the beach. At least one lawsuit has been filed against the governor. This over those beach closures. Okay lets talk about the weather and how the day is shaping up. Shaping up to be nice, not too hot, not too cold. Perfectly delivered. Yes, just right, we have some mild weather for the next couple days and then the heat will be on. Good morning, blue skies overhead with a lot of sunshine compared to yesterday when we woke up with fog and multilevel clouds. This is another look at the glistening water, 50 degrees in San Francisco, 53 oakland, livermore 53 and san jose 56. C off to a cool start, santa rosa 46 degrees but dropping 39 overnight so already we have a nice rebound with sunshine. A degrees cooler in santa rosa compared to yesterday. Down by a few degrees along the east bay shore and the coastline and for the inland east bay 4 degrees cooler in livermore. Some areas of fog around the coastline, Half Moon Bay 8 miles of visibility. Yesterday visibility had dropped to half a mile at times so a different story going on this morning. The wind is light, calm over the north bay and oakland, a very light onshore breeze over fairfield. As far as where we stand for the afternoon and where we should be, you can see we are within a few degrees of where we should be. San francisco just a tad cooler than the average. Oakland a little warmer, livermore and san jose also by a few degrees warmer. Seasonal temperatures for sunday afternoon and into the days ahead feeling like summer for some of us. I know people will be practicing a different way to go out. Even when businesses reopen the question remains will the tourists return . The financial toll of long closures of beach towns on the east coast could be calculated in the billions. Saying hello. Something we did not see yesterday so its shaping up to be a nice day. You are right, the sunshine for most of us and i am feeling it this morning. Frank, good morning to you as well. Frank likes the warm sunny skies and thats what we will see for the afternoon. Temperatures are about average but the heat is on in the days ahead, looking over San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge we have a lot of blue skies overhead, from the coast to england quite a different story but with the clear skies it is a little bit cooler. Giving you a view of the pacific and the northwest you can see how areas over washington and oregon into idaho there is a little bit of activity. The system that brought scattered showers yesterday is on its way out and in its place a little bit of cool air with the onshore flow continuing. A libido flow over the bay area today but a lot of sunshine as it did disrupt the marine layer and we will have clear skies all the way through sunset and beyond. Plus, the coronavirus continues to impact High School Seniors who could be going off to college this fall. We talked with one senior about staying in state or going out of state. Dad, im scared. Its only human to care for those we love. And also help light their way. Its why last year chevron invested over 10 billion to bring affordable, reliable, ever cleaner energy to america. Local stores have to adjust to the extension of those shelter at home orders. We are trying to do business and get everything in place but it feels really sad because we dont know how much this will last. Some nonessential businesses like florists say that they are still opened but orders are down 90 , many restaurants are open for to go service but the majority of customers are staying home. These are Uncertain Times, so its difficult to project how much business and how many guests will be interested. Restaurants and other businesses are hoping that new shelter at home orders will allow them to reopen soon. If not some do not know if they will make it until june. We are reaching the end of the school year and the traditional deadline to accept your College Acceptance is may 1 but some colleges have extended that but the uc system is sticking to it so a lot of folks had to make that decision for the weekend but the coronavirus has made this a complicated situation for High School Seniors. Chris talked to me during a recent College Panel about admissions and talked about deciding between going to cal or notre dame. We are concerned, they keep pushing back dates. Everything is uncertain and keeps pushing back and pushing back. So, will it be easier to go to berkeley . Just because of the way things are canceling and are moving around. Will it be too difficult . That something we have to deal with. Something you are not worried about before, so a show of hands in terms of how many of you have done a virtual tour of the school you are thinking of attending . Did you all visit campuses physically . Okay so a virtual tour is not the same as spending your spring break checking out campuses but this is the world we live in. Students are looking at the decision for the longterm because the next several months are uncertain. I wish i could tell you where they decided but i do not know so we will see if its going to be cal or notre dame. 8 27, a doctor from the bay area goes to the epicenter of the virus in new york to help out and he says the virus is unlike anything he has seen before. It will be what we did in here that will make us stronger out there. The impact of the pandemic is being felt in local government, the city of san jose will be furloughing employees this week. New developmentsimmunity to a new Antibody Test been and the new Research Showing that reinfection is unlikely. From ktvu fox 2 news, this is mornings on 2. And welcome back to mornings on 2. Check out that gorgeous picture. Looking at the blue skies because yesterday was like a pillow of fog hugging the towers of the Golden Gate Bridge and we cannot see it and then the sun came out but the sun decided to make another appearance today and as you can see roadways are clear as people shelter in place like we are advised to do. The time 8 31, thank you for joining us. I am claudine wong. Happy sunday im frank mallicoat. I am a big fan of sunshine and it looks like its going to be a terrific week around the bay area starting today. Yes, the warmup is coming this way. You know, Sara Zendehnam likes it hot and thats the weather thats coming. Good morning claudine and frank, frank i may have seen you applauding the forecast. We have blue skies overhead with a lot of sunshine. Outside the doors at this time, patches of fog and that is it, hard to find much. Into the afternoon, partly cloudy skies with a little bit of a breeze along the coastline and around the bay. Lower 60s into pacifica but 70 degrees for santa cruz, around the bay a loof 60s in the inland cities warming up to the low to mid 70s. Read about where we should be for this time of year but the heat is on getting into the days ahead. Details on your bay area sunday, including the cooler start and what to expect for the extended forecast. The swiss drugmaker Company Roche announced it has one emergency approval from the u. S. For its coronavirus test, the Antibody Test determines if people have been infected with the coronavirus which could help determine if people can get the infection more than once which is key in determining how and when to lift the lockdowns. This version of the test has no negative false results and very few false positives. Medical researchers in south korea have uncovered no information about a recent coronavirus study that was raising concerns around the world, they have determined recent reports of recovered virus patients testing positive for a second time are due to testing errors and not due to reinfection, the south korea Infectious Disease expert say those mistakes caused more than 260 people in the country to test positive again. A doctor from the bay area spent a week in new york city helping a hospital fight covid 19. We now explain how the coronavirus is unlike any other disease that the doctors have ever seen. The number that i watch every day, which is the worst is the number of deaths that number has remained obnoxiously and terrifyingly high. And it is still not dropping at the rate we would like to see. It is an incredible unique virus. The bay area dr. , dr. Burchett spent a week in the bronx, one of the first things he witnessed was how quickly the virus could take hold when he helped a patient who came in with a noncovid related issue. One patient was admitted who do not have covid. He was there for other reasons and he was fine in the morning but all of a sudden in the afternoon his breathing went into the tank. The respiratory system has been seen as the most vulnerable area but dr. Burchett says he saw the disease ravage bodies in many ways. I cannot think of anything that causes respiratory failure, pneumonia, heart failure, blood clots in your lungs and kidney failure. What else can do that . I have never seen anything. Say patients needed dialysis due to kidney failure many still need some oxygen after recovering. The will gradually recover and then get stuck and then plateau. All they would need was a little bit of oxygen. We would give people tanks to take home. New york was out of oxygen so they were stuck in the hospital. Though he is optimistic a new normal way of life will slowly emerge he warns we must tread slowly and patiently. Humanity will be victorious but its going to be a while. Get used to this, we are not going to baseball games in a week or two. The world is not going to be the same thing. Its not ending but it is changing. Starting tomorrow the city of san jose is going to for low parttime and temporary employees. City leaders say that san jose is facing a 45 million budget shortfall because of the coronavirus so people who are not fulltime staff in library, parks and recreation and the Police Department expected to be paid leave. The city will call back workers as they are needed. There is one Outdoor Activity that is making a comeback right now and we are talking about rollerskating. With jims close and streets reserved for Outdoor Activity people are dusting off old skates or buying new ones. Many stores that sell rollerskates say they have seen a surge in skills, one manufacturer says they have seen a 700 increase in web traffic and for those inline skates. One father in oakland bought a new pair for his 16yearold son and the two of them skied together. Closing the street and having it freshly paved and having the rink in front of my house. It is platinum. Inline skates took off in the 70s during the disco boom, rollerskates, viewers may remember roller derby was a staple of channel 2 programming back in the day. The popularity of rollerskates coasted well into the 1990s. I learned on rollerskates. Inline skates are the thing where you have to work to find the old school rollerskates but i like that little rubber thing on the top to help you stop. It was hard to switch to it in the back. The little rubber thing that you could drag. I remember the bay area bombers. Watching on channel 2, it was a big deal back in the late 60s and 70s. And then the clay wheels, so they have come a long way. That means im old. I can only rollerskate if i have a wall to crash into to stop. That is my parameters. It is a good day to skate. I loved skating as a kid. I still have all my skates that fit me to this day. I will roll down the street with my mask on. Okay outside this morning we have sunshine, blue skies and a call start. By the afternoon 60s near the coast, 70s inland, for the days ahead that will c as we get a warming trend underway. Outside looking outside at san jose and into San Francisco partly cloudy mostly clear, blue skies in the forecast for the entire day. Even along the coastline we have a few patches of fog and that is it. A cooler start because of the clear skies, 46 in santa rosa, 50 San Francisco, low 50s in oakland and livermore, 56 san jose. Down by a degrees in santa rosa, down by six in napa. Along the east bayshore down by three hayward and inland cities are 5 degrees cooler to start the day. Earlier this morning some areas like napa and santa rosa down by 10 or 15 degrees from yesterday morning. Areas of fog dont exist this morning, a little bit of patchy fog on the coastline but Half Moon Bay reporting good visibility, yesterday dropping to half a mile at times but not today. A light onshore breeze through fairfield at nine Miles Per Hour. Novato from the north at 12 Miles Per Hour and into the afternoon look at the pattern, just how mild it is as we stop around 4 00 the color coding showing a lot of 60s from the coast around the bay and warmer locations in the 70s. When i come back, a detailed look at afternoon highs, plus the warmup coming our way. New data offering a glimmer of hope in the pandemic. How some new numbers show hospitalizations are on the decline. An incredible story about friendship and betrayal. Investigators are now looking into a group of fortunetellers who are accused of scamming one woman out of thousands of dollars. A group of fortunetellers is accused of scamming a widow out of her home and everything that she owned. Investigators tell us that the case may involve more victims. Some might wonder why anyone would hand over their possessions to someone they barely know but the perpetrators of complex financial scams seek out Vulnerable People and manipulate them over time, in this case a group of fortunetellers cleaned out a Kindergarten Teacher taking her 1. 5 million home. Everything is gone. Victoria never thought she would be homeless at age 73, she lived in the same house for 40 years but everything changed during a july 4 getaway, she met psychics who she says took her home and conned her. Everything seemed really positive and goknow . I made new friends. A free spirit, she loves to dance, believes in angels and psychic abilities, she connected with mystic michelle and her motherinlaw tammy adams, the women began calling her every day meditating and praying with her over the phone, adams sold psychic services and has youtube videos in which she reports readings to strangers. Victoria said adams talked about angels and said they were speaking to her dead husband and invoked mother teresa, the pope and jesus and that is before things turned dark. Her new confidant slowly began telling her she was in danger. In the and i was fearful for my life. And i was fearful to be near my loved ones. After months of being afraid victoria let adams then she told me i would be losing my home. And it was very upsetting to me. She said if you give me your house, to the Angel Foundation then we can help children. Records show the house was signed over to the house of angels last year, the foundation is a registered nonprofit operated by tammy adams and her husband, if the foundation does charitable work it is unclear, on the website it lists projects with no details, the Charity Claims to be a church so its not required to file public returns with the irs. A receipt from the Salvation Army shows the foundation donated furnitures and jewelry in november after taking the home. Emmanuel townsend is a bay area attorney who took on the case. He sued tammy and jim adams along with mystic michelle and the house of angels foundation. The lawsuit alleges the group committed physical and financial elder abuse and fraud. These predators were quite sophisticated, this happened to an elderly woman but it could happen to anyone. We reached out to timmy and jim adams in multiple times, they live in granite they, they told the Security Guard they would not come outside for an interview and they did not return phone calls or messages. We also stop by her shop in granite bay which was closed, after signing away her home adams told her to grab a weeks worth of clothing, she was dropped off at this empty home in a gritty neighborhood, for six weeks she slept on a soiled mattress on the floor. I was in jail in that place and she would tell me dont reach out to your family. Everything has to be a secret. As time passedthe tory realized what happened and then called her niece for help. It was credibly and incredibly unsafe. Julie rented a van, then rescued her aunt. Your average Senior Citizen would not have survived this as gracefully. Victoria has not spoken to adams or her family since. My greatest wish is that she cannot do it to anyone else and i know she has done it to other people. So i ask these people to come forward and tell your story. Tammy adams and her husband have not filed court papers in response to the lawsuit. Sources tell us that a criminal investigation is underway and may be white reaching, from los gatos, ktvu fox 2 news. All right it is a deck 48, time to check the weather and a great today to have monday and tuesday off. I know someone off both of those days. I wonder who that would be. Any guesses . I may have a hint. My favorite days. And we have sunshine. You are right, glorious weather coming your way, we do have nice weather underway this morning. If you like blue skies and sunshine, quite a difference from yesterday. We are enjoying sunshine for the afternoon with a little bit of patchy fog but a nice view over the bay area where you can see a lot of blue. Quite a different story from yesterday, we have fog along the coastline but even Half Moon Bay with good visibility. Wind is light and variable from the south, concord three Miles Per Hour, novato 12 Miles Per Hour and fairfield with the onshore breeze at nine Miles Per Hour. Backing up to show you this system that brought the cloud coverage, the cooler weather and even some sprinkles with trace amounts over areas like santa rosa, napa, livermore, all of these reporting rain from yesterday but it is mostly the Pacific Northwest. For us partly cloudy skies, a cool start followed by a mild afternoon. 50 in San Francisco, 54 in walnut creek, 46 santa rosa and 56 in san jose. Ranging from the mid40s to the mid50s now, cooler than yesterday especially over the north bay and getting into the afternoon, livermore with a Beautiful Day, upper 60s for your lunch hour, lower 70s for the second part of the day. Topping out at 71 degrees for the inner east bay of livermore. Who else is reaching 71 . Napa. 69 for novato. Antioch and brentwood a little lower with mid70s, near the water upper 60s in Berkeley Oakland and hayward, 64 in San Francisco and to the west 61 in pacifica. For the south bay 70 degrees over areas of santa cruz, 70 for the south bay of san jose and a nice and mild 72 for los gatos. For the extended forecast we have a warmup, low to mid 70s for bayside communities by tomorrow with upper 70s up to 80 degrees for inland cities and then the heat is on wednesday into thursday with mid to upper 80s up to 90 degrees for inland cities and that is quite toasty. Meanwhile around the bay upper 70s to 80 degrees so there is one mother coming for the bayside communities as well.
