These are individuals over the age of 65 or who have pre existing health conditions. It will also provide a secure facility for people who have tested positive or who have tests pending, all screened by the county. The alternate care site will have relatively minor impact now and after the term is over. They will be living in an area that is fenced, staffed, and will have security 24 7. This focuses on the general population of the bay area and is looking at, in essence, folks they recruit that have not tested positive but in fact tested negative, and who have remained in process and they will test the monthly with the Gold Standard of diagnostic tests as well as the serology antibody test. What they are really looking at is the new rate of infections as well as those who may have already been infected. This is a joint collaboration between ucsf and stanford. The bio hub will sequence viruses to look at the impact ensuring that, is it local or from abroad . And, if theres any possibility of the disease having co infection issues. That is part and parcel of the disease we are seeing. The first study focuses on a Broad Spectrum of residents while the 2nd will focus on gaining information that could critical protect in the front line healthcare workers. Explain what you are hoping to learn with the 2nd study. Such a great, important part of this study. So many folks across the hospital and clinics have been fighting very hard against the covid virus so this really looks at folks who about 3500 are hoping to recruit to have also tested negative, who over a 12 year period of weekly tests for the pcr diagnostic tests for the standard for new infections as well as the serology antibody test, they have already been infected and really the goal with all of this is to ensure that as we reopen the economy we are understanding what is the epidemiological infection rate . What, in fact, is the rate of those who have had the infection . And the specific part of the study is to look at those who have had the infection, and in fact, is it protected from a reinfection . And if so, how long . That will play a role in those who we think will be workers in the opening of the economy and certainly for healthcare workers as they go forth treating covid but also non covid issues as we open up elective surgeries, elective treatments if it in fact protects them. How long are these studies expected to last . For the first one its really going to be testing the monthly. Through the summer you have to have real results. And people who at least have the luminary results are showcasing very important trends. But also crucial to get the data to respond to what happens next is what is being done here with these studies.
