That report also says nationwide there were more than 965,000 coronavirus cases and almost 55,000 people have died. More than 107,000 people tested positive have recovered. California has more than 43,000 confirmed cases and more than 1700 people have died here. Here in the bay area, Santa Clara County still has the most virus cases, more than 2,000. Santa clara county is also the bay areas first county to reach 100 virus deaths. The city of San Franciscos shelter in place order is set to expire in less than a week, but most likely that will be extended. Mayor london breed will talk about that today. San franciscos shelter in place order was set to expire on may 3rd but the mayor said it is very likely it will be extended a few weeks if not a month. That means we could be following these orders until june. The official extension amongstment is expected sometime this week. Counties across the bay area worked together throughout the pandemic with similar orders so wide x tensions. Salano county extended its order to may 17th. Just because it will be extended doesnt mean all closures will be, too. The mayor said they are working on way toss beilein ingredient with some things being anyone for the public again. The mayor says she will make an announcement this week on recommendation about what could soon reopen. Mayor breed said she knows how hard it has been to stay home for the last six weeks, but reopening cannot happen overnight. It is a process that requires patience. It is a process that requires resources. And i want to thank the people in San Francisco especially for just supporting the process and being responsible. More than 207,000 people have died from covid19 and its complications. There are also more than 881,000 confirmed cases of people who have recovered. Specifically in africa, the number of confirmed covid19 cases jumped 40 in the last two weeks. They worry the medical system in africa is not equipped to deal with the growing number of coronavirus patients. The red cross and World Food Program are helping to get food to african countries and preparing medical equipment and supplies for field hospitals. 7 17. The new symptoms include losing your taste or smell, a sore throat, headaches, muscle pains, chillings and shaking with the chills. This expands list of possible signs of the infection is important because many coronavirus testing sites wont test anyone who does not have the symptoms. It is certainly that allergy season is under way and doctors say you need to know the difference between seasonal allergy symptom asnd those of the coronavirus. Many mimic the coronavirus. He says while your symptoms may be hard to distinguish, there is a way to tell if it is more than just allergies. If youre a younger healthy person and getting one of the more mild case of the coronavirus, symptoms may be identical but if you take an allergy pill or take a nose spray, if you feel relief, it is allergies. If your symptoms are the same, it is coronavirus and something to discuss with your doctor. The efforts to really understand how widespread the coronavirus may be, especially in the mission, which is such a densely populated area. Reporter yes. Well this is a joint effort between some Community Organizations in the mission and uc sf research herbs. The goal is to try to test as many people as possible in a 16 block area of the mission neighborhood. Now, as many as 5700 people who live and work there are eligible for these free tests. It is optional however. Volunteer medical professionals have two types of free tests to people who show up. One, to see if you have covid 19 now. The other type will test for antibodies to see if you have had the virus in the past. This 16block area was chosen for this Testing Program because it is the second most densely populated track in the city. It also has a significant latino population. Covid19 has had a dis pro force that impact on that community and communities of color in general. Well, we know right now that General Hospital is about 80 of the folks at general dealing with covid are latinos. If you live in this census track, i would say two things. One, do this for yourself because it is great to know what your stat us is to protect your loved ones and do it for your community because then we can understand how we can mitigate and combat the further spread or transmission of this virus. The number of confirmed covid 19 cases is nearing the 1 million mark but researchers at Johns HopkinsUniversity Say they believe the number of new coronavirus cases across the country appears to have reached a plateau. However, they say it is clearly a tragic plateau with roughly 30,000 new virus cases and 2,000 deaths everyday in the United States. A as of this morning, there are nearly 966,000 virus cases across the country and 54 toss people died. More than 107,000 people tested positive. They have recovered. Now here in california, there are more than 43,000 conformed cases with more than 1070 deaths. Santa clara county, still the most in the bay area with more than 2,000. It also is the first bay area county to reach 100 virus deaths. San francisco shelter in place order is set to expire here in less than a week but likely will be extended. Mayor london breed said she is not following any other states who are already starting to ease those restrictions. The mayor says it is very likely San Francisco shelter in place order few wakes if not a month. May 3 an extension means you could follow those orders until june. The official extension amongst the is expected sometime this week. Counties across the bay area worked together to hand down similar orders so it is likely well eventually see region wide extension. Salano county extended the order to may 17th. We dont know yet what will come with another extension, if there will be any changes tonight current order or not, but the mayor said they are trying to come up with ways to be more lenient with restrictions. I know it is hard which is why it is important that as we are talking and convening in our Economic Recovery Task force, we are developing ways to make recommendations to the department of Public Health of things that we could potentially make available to the public. The centers for Disease Control and prevention has a new report about the signs and symptoms to know if someone has covid19. As we have been reporting here, allergy season is under way and it is important to know the difference between seasonal allergy symptoms and those of the coronavirus. Many mimic the coronavirus. It is something one Southern California doctor deals with personally. There is a way to tell if it is more than just allergies. If youre a younger healthy person and getting one of the more mild cases of the coronavirus, the symptoms might be identical but an easy way to differentiate, if you take a pill for al lers jigs and there is relief, then it is probably allergies. If not, then discuss it with your doctor. Some symptoms are similar to the flu but doctors say flu season is almost over so it is more likely to be covid19 or allergies. They said so far and this program has been going on since saturday in the mission. 650 people have been tested so far in that neighborhood. They are providing two types of free tests to people who show up. One is to see if you have covid 19 now. The other type will test for antibodies to see if you had the virus in the past. The goal is to test as many people as possible in a 16 block area of the Mission District. Anyone who lives or works in the area is eligible so that is about 5700 people. This area was chosen because it is the second most dencely populated census track in the city and also a neighborhood that has a high latino population. Health officials note that covid19 has had a disproportionate impact on that community. I live right around the block and been sheltering forever. I want to know one way or the other. The study will help unfold exactly how pervasive this is and hopefully insure that it guides policy and resources to help mitigate the future spread. The rural area have done a Similar Program there.
