The deadliest day so far came is so irresistible, youll wanna eat them anywhere, wednesday when there were 115 so dont resist pop em outside, or on the go, who died in one day. Or on the way home pop my 100 allwhitemeat classic or spicy popcorn chicken combo for just 5. 99. Right here in the bay area there are currently more than 7000 confirmed cases of covid 19 with 243 deaths. Half 1 Million People have been tested for coronavirus here in the state and for the first time california has cleared its backlog of tests. That backlog reached 60,000 earlier this month and some people waited nearly 2 weeks or results of the test which slow down treatment. The forecast for warm weather is attracting more and more people back outside that governor gavin newsom is urging people to be careful saying social distancing roles are still in place. We brought to you live yesterday the governor acknowledged this weekends rising temperatures will likely have many more trying to get and east bay couple who outside and enjoy the sun but qualify for government stimulus the governor and other local checks decided to use the money leaders are warning of the they received to pay it potential problems that could forward. Ktvus amber lee explains how the couple is making a bring. I also think if there is an difference. Reporter from his people are not practicing home in the space tim hardin is physical distancing i will be announcing in a week or so these numbers going back up. I dont think anybody wants to using them to teach biology to his alameda high students. Next week we start chapter 60 hear that. And now lets see what the governor has to say at there is another lesson he is todays briefing, we bring you teaching not in the textbooks. Now that live update from sacramento. We also will look at the economy in this state at the same time and look at supporting particular industries which have been ravaged by this stayathome i wanted them to know they can make a difference. He showed them how, he and order. Today we want to announce an his wife darlene, a retired Elementary School teacher, said they just received 2400 in effort to address all three stimulus money from the federal issues at once. Government. This specific money was to help ease people who were hurting and we are not hurting. That is a partnership that we have formed with fema. The couple says that the new stories they saw with people in over the past few weeks we have their cars and long lines it to been working diligently to get free food moved them. It create a framework for was heartbreaking to engagement with our federal partners to help support an effort, first in the nation, to take care of our seniors most important needs and that is their nutritional needs and to make sure they are fed and to address the issue of isolation. We estimate some one point we our cabinets and our fridge was full the couple donated 1900 to estimate some 1. 2 million of our seniors in the state of feeding America Network that provides to food banks across the country, the nonprofit california live alone. Informed them the donation would provide 19,000 meals to over 5. 7 million older families in need and that every one dollar donation buys 10 meals, something that surprised californians, but 1. 2 million them. They say it reinforces the idea that each person can make a difference even if you donate live alone, socially isolated, 10 or 20, it will help a lot unable in many respects to cook their own meals and unable to of people. Provide the kind of nutrition i lesson about empathy to and support they deserve. His students. That is a good way to make people happier during this time where everyone we have been thinking about what more we could do with is by themselves. These extended stayathome orders and the expectation that the couple says that they are blessed to have a home they even as we began to toggle back just paid off last month and on the stayathome orders, that they donated to the that our seniors will continue Alameda Food Bank and meals on to be a focus of our energies wheels. Sometimes if you get a lot of people making a little and a focus of consideration as difference it will add up to a it relates to making sure they huge amount of difference being are truly protected in this made. Amber lee ktvu fox 2 wa crisis and the expectation that the orders for our seniors may lag. And so the need to be more aggressive, more focused, and until at least september to more supportive of our seniors fully reopen its San Francisco has been top of mind. Offices and employees will continue to work from home and they say keeping the office is and so working with fema on closed will protect employees ways to provide nutritious and have fewer disruptions for meals our seniors and to get customers and provide more them delivered, but also to get flexibility in case of a second wave of the coronavirus them prepared. We started thinking about building a partnership with our outbreak. A lot of nutritious food was Restaurant Industry, with kitchens and hospitality handed out today along the industry which has been ravaged peninsula during this stayat by this pandemic. And this has home order we are all experiencing, Second Harvest food bank of Silicon Valley and Hope Ministries held a drive through Food Distribution event in south San Francisco, 750 boxes containing two weeks led us to an announcement worth of Food Supplies and the today, a partnership not just mayor of south San Francisco with fema but a partnership said the event is timely since with cities and counties for locally driven strategy to get our restaurant workers, there are so many families out hospitality workers to prepare there and need. I am sure some people have food at home and deliver nutritious meals to and some are were running very our seniors and to have the low and it is very difficult for families, nobody is earning capacity to not only deliver a paycheck and so this effort and prepare but to pay for this endeavor. This partnership will allow for the ability for restaurants to is to help those who are really start rehiring people or keep in need and you can see by the people currently employed and lines of rs there are many at l to start preparing three meals a day, seven days a week and have those meals are delivered to our seniors all throughout the state of california. June. We will provide unlimited there is a pet food giveaway number of meals, there will be happening right now in the city of oakland, the east bay spca is offering pet food to those who need help feeding their no cap in terms of support but dogs or cats during the stayat there is an eligibility cap, home order and this is their weekly distribution event and organizer say there is a big demand i just last week more than 500 pounds of pet food was they must have been at high risk of exposure to covid 19, given away. Because of the high demand must be in a position where we are doing limited distribution at this time so we their economics are below 600 are giving a massive amount of food for up to two dollars and of federal poverty, must have to cats per car driving in and we anticipate food supply will already been impacted or exposed directly to covid 19, last between one and two weeks or more broadly have but were doing these pantries compromised immune systems. Weekly so if they start getting low they can come back next week and get an additional so there is a category within this frame and beyond that we supply. The pet food pantry now have the ability to have a giveaway is on fridays between 11 am and 1 pm at the spca on hagan berger road in oakland. Locally driven Decision Making process to start employing workers and to get these the San Francisco 49ers made some moves in the first round of last nights nfl draft. Restaurants reopened and provide hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of prepared meals every day and deliver to our seniors throughout the the 49ers traded down one spot with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers state of california. From pick 13 to 14 and selected javon kinlaw i firstteam all the reimbursements or along american out of the university these lines, 16 for breakfast, of south carolina. 70 for lunch and up to 20 he is one of the top ranked reimbursements for dinners. Defensive lineman in the draft so 66 per day will be and the liners and the 49ers reimbursed and there are nutritious guidelines and i keep saying nutrition for reason. We want to be sure that we are were looking for a dl and one focused on locally produced hour after that pick the 49ers produce and we do want to traded up six spots to the 25th connect our farms to this effort. We really want to focus our values throughout the state of california to get a lot of brandon aiyuk, one of six wide independent restaurants up and receivers to be selected on the running again as well and have first round of the draft. Diversity of options. Brandon aiyuk was born near sacramento and grew up in reno we want to make sure that what nevada as a 49ers band and we are sending to are guideline like jeevan, he will have a chance to start early helping to fill the void from emmanuel sanders. Thank you for joining us at noon and the news continues on putting out and we are very ktvu. Com. Ing to breathe. His mother never left his size. Excited about this partnership which can also support local government because the generation of local sales taxes how is it going to get. Associated with these purchases could actually start generating revenue and support for the dr. Oz and this miracle mom was put on a ventilator not local economy. It is one of those rare areas, once, but twice. This first in the nation she knew coming off ate second time was not in her favor so partnership, where we are addressing three problems at she called her family to say the same time in a very goodbye. I told them i didnt think i meaningful way. This program goes into effect was going to make it. Dr. Oz stories of survival immediately. We are looking forward to local coming up next. ] government again making the determination and the decision of which restaurants are eligible for participation. We will work on reimbursements and we llmaking sure we are supporting local governments, we are providing drip its day 95 of the coronavirus pan democrat nick 75 of the 25 local america. Today the dose of hope and governments requirement in terms of the cost so a very small percentage is borne by local government. The state picks up a disproportionate share of that and again fema and the federal partnership picks up the rest. Counties will identify those seniors who are eligible and we continue to encourage people to do two things at the local level. If you are a senior and you believe are eligible for the program call your local 211 and that will be the Perfect Point of contact to begin the process of eligibility. If you do not have a local 211 go to our covid 19. Ca. Gov website. I am not nacve that everybody has access to the internet or even the 211 call center so we will be doing a lot of outreach in partnership with our county directors and our adult and aging services and with our cities to be very proactive in promoting this program and getting it up and running over the next days and weeks and hopefully seeing this scaled throughout the state of california. We think this is a real opportunity for Rural California as well some of our favorite dining spots that may be closed down, a large number of seniors are socially isolated and Rural Communities and this began to connect those dots. It is not just about the meals but about Human Connection and someone checking in as they are delivering those meals and making sure that people are okay. It extends a wellness narrative and that is Something Else i wanted to speak to as well today. We are significantly expanding our wellness and outreach efforts as part of our the department of aging and i will ask the director of the department of aging up in a moment and she will talk more about this program but to build on existing supports of outreach of on this and check ends in the state of california in california and to bring to a whole other level weve dealt a Wonderful Partnership with Sacramento State and all of their students that are focused on the issues of aging, genealogy and others that are going to be supporting this effort, along with United Airlines. I want to bring up United Airlines as a point of personal privilege because it United Airlines reached out to us and said what can we do with so many of our callcenter takers, the focus on the lines dealing with an overwhelming volume of calls about travel plans . Those individuals are not being utilized and you say send them over to add for unappointed insurance processing. No we have 1340 people that weve already transferred and an additional 350 are supporting the suffers and we can talk more about that in a moment. We thought they would be perfect because of how they are organized and positioned to be able to make wellness calls in partnership with Sacramento State and with the department of aging and so we want to thank United Airlines and i love the idea that the folks that we usually check in to get our travel arrangements done we will be checking in with our seniors and older californians to check on the Mental Health of our seniors and to see what they need. In addition to that we are working with cert which is our Emergency Response teams the state of california and will provide an additional 900 staff so we are well and access of 1000 new people who will be focusing very deliberately on these Wellness Checks we have created what we call a friendship lined, 8886701360. Youll see that on the screen and that is the line that people can call just to check in and to call to see how things are and know that will have people checking in on you and checking to see if they can be supportive of your needs, you just need someone to talk to, that is the line to call. If you need someone to just listen for five or 10 or even 20 minutes and you dont eat anything of particular and you want to get something off your chest and you want to share your thoughts and how you are feeling that is the line. We call it our friendship line we have a partnership and that line has been up for some time with the Alzheimers Association and people have been checking it for others with dementia and other needs. We want to broaden that access and broaden its availability to a Broader Group of individuals. I encourage those who are listening or watching to go to 8886701360 and emotional supp just want to be able to communicate with someone on the other line. That is the architecture of the framework of our announcement today. More supports for seniors, particularly those who are required to stay home and are the most vulnerable to this disease. Also supporting restaurant and Hospitality Industry more broadly and supporting the community and terms of Economic Activity that this program will generate and making available this resource, this new army of volunteers and support staff, to make sure that we are doing Wellness Check ends proactively and then creating a line where you can proactively reach out for some emotional support and otherwise. Those are the broad strokes. But we have Kim Mccoy Wade who is the director of our department of aging who helped organize all of this and build these support structures and she is here to talk more specifically about some of the Program Offerings and of course we will be here to answer questions in a moment as well. Thank you governor i am here today to speak directly to older californians and to thank you for really being the heroes you are the first answer the call of the governor on march 15 to stay home and because you have answered the call you have driven the curve down and save lives in california and we are here to reaffirm our commitment to serve you and to partner with you. We see you and we see the leadership you have shown and staying home and driving the curve down and being the first to go home on march 15. We see the sacrifice you older adults are making and you are not at your jobs, whether it is in healthcare, hospitals are the halls of congress, your teleworking and you are not volunteering and youre missing or halls of worship this holy month and youre missing your grandchildren and we do see you. Tragically we remember all of those who we have lost. We will not forget you and you are not a number and we do know your names and we want to hear your stories we are joining with you and your families and grieving and you are dearly dearly missed. Looking ahead we need to continue saving lives here in california and we are moving with unprecedented innovation and urgency in these partnerships but we know we cannot tolerate the inequity and we are very concerned and were doubling down on some of the disparities that we are seeing in latino, native american, asiapacific american and africanamerican elder communities and we are pleased to see the growing response to homeless elders moving off the streets and moving out a congregant shelters and into more like a home we know we cannot tolerate hungary which is why we are excited about the partnership with the restaurants and have been delivering more meals than ever in march and will grow more during april and may with these partnerships. And as Governor Newsom just said we cannot tolerate loneliness it is a terrible threat to our health and community and that is why we are so grateful that you all all across the state, up to 1. 7 million calls we can count and with a friendship line there will be even more calls, even more Human Connection. We are equally committed to bridging the Digital Divide for older californians living at home or living at home or in Senior Living the Digital Divide has to be bridged. And last but not least i have to give a shout out to the gerontology students who are showing us we are all in this together, young and old coming together to feed, to talk, to stay home and stay healthy and stay safe, i am so proud that california believes in california for all across the lifespan. For the eightyearold with a learning challenge at home struggling with School Learning to the 80yearold who is widowed and living alone we are here for you, we are all here for you and so grateful in these new investments and partnerships to continue this journey. Thank you. We thank you for your leadership and your team and support and thank you for recognizing those family members have been torn apart because of the loss of a loved one again a disproportionate number of our seniors are vulnerable to covid 19 and it is an opportunity and a reminder as always to make this fundamental point. Even if you feel you are young and healthy, and that you are somehow not necessarily at high risk, i want to remind you that with this disease, there are others you may love, family members and people in your direct circle of friends in relation to may be more vulnerable but none more precious than our seniors, those who raised us and those who built the middle class and the most Precious Resource we have. So we are committed to their health and their safety and were working through these new guidelines and these new partnerships. I think we have substantively advanced this cause. Again the eligibility requirements will be put out at local and the county level up and down the state and these are for people otherwise ineligible for other programs and meals on wheels can only do so much. This is an addon to the incredible work meals on wheels does but at a huge scale that we think and make a huge impact in the lives of potentially millions of californians, both on the Service Delivery side and on recipient side. First in the nation and again deep gratitude to the partnerships including the incredible partnership with fema and the federal government for allowing us to be the first to set up this program. Kim made a point about lives lost and i do appreciate that, as we do every day in our press conference, we extend our condolences to those with loss or lives over the past 24 hours, 93 additional people lost their lives compared to this time i spoke yesterday until today. We saw 5 more people test positive over the last 24 hours for covid 19 and those should be sobering and cautionary statistics as it relates to the desire that we all have to get back to some semblance of normalcy. And to answer the question of when that will happen. The good news in terms of the numerical statistics to which we again attach a lot of consideration, not only just in terms of Daily Briefings but more broadly and monitoring our capacity to begin to augment and modify the state home orders, hospitalizations and icu numbers. Hospitalizations were flat yesterday, no statistical growth. We saw yesterdays decline from the previous day and today we are seeing with that a flattening. We continue to say stability in our models but particular stability in hospitalizations is were down yesterday they are slightly up but just 1 which is encouraging. I mention this yesterday there were four things that have it all at once we had not seen since the beginning of this when that was not just hospitalization numbers down the day before but also icu numbers and those people under investigation. Three of the four indicators showed a decline in only the icu numbers showed an increased number of p uis for icus which dropped slightly as it did hospitalizations so encouraging signs but we are not by any stretch of the imagination in a position to say those six indicators by which we make our determination of the future of our stay at home orders, that any new lights are yet green. We were able 48 hours ago to make the announcement as it relates to scheduled surgeries and that was the first augmentation on our way to ultimately producing the kinds of augmentation all of you expect and demand as it relates to state home orders. We continue to be vigilant and the other spaces and we continue to monitor information as it comes in real time from all across the state of california. I will remind you what i said yesterday in the day before, i recognize that california, despite it being a state, we recognize the incredible imperative and importance of recognizing regionalism and how local conditions are distinctive from one another. All the information i gave you which i do like on a day like this is in the aggregate and none of us live in the aggregate so when we consider listening of the state home orders we will consider local conditions and we will consider the things not only from the perspective of the spread of the virus and not only from the perspective of the number of deaths and trendlines but also in terms of broader capacity. What is the hospital and resource capacity . From the physical perspective what is a Human Resource capacity as it relates to a potential surge if there is a new outbreak and an increase in recognizing that people will start commuting into that city and then go back home and to their city. We have to consider all of these things in total and that is part of the larger effort with those six specific indicators that we co update on a daily basis. I will update you as soon as we have more clarifying news and again answering the question of when we do not debate dates, we are only guided by indicators. And the indicators that will ultimately allow us to reopen safely, judiciously, and very thoughtfully. With that we wanted to again announce very good news in terms of the broader program. And the new procedures we put in place with local partners and we look forward to supporting mayors and county leaders in this project as we grow and as we expand. We continue to recognize the importance of addressing the needs of those socially isolated and their Mental Health needs and that is what the friendship line was all about and i continue to want to thank all of the partners he came around the table of course the past few weeks but the Partnership Together so we can make the announcement that we did today. One final point before i open it to questions, you always want to ask before i end and that is to ask you if you are willing to help support not only the causes we announced today but more broadly the cause that unites all of us and that is the cause of contribution. Just a few days ago we announced that californians website, californiansforall. Ca. Gov , we had over 20,000 people call on the first day and there are now over 26,000 of you who have filled out the application and have begun the process of contributing a volunteering in your community. I want to thank all of those who have done so and extend a heartfelt expression of appreciation. I hope others will continue to do the same. One final point and i will then turn it over to questions. I want to say thank you to all who helped organize isthink it or we can have ago that we not care for the caregivers and the importance where is not taking care of our caregivers particularly those supporting our seniors and Skilled Nursing facilities and the like. We have the 500 stipends we are providing or distributing to thousands and thousands of healthcare workers and 9 ounces numbers a few days ago, an unprecedented number of people who will be getting the benefits of the stipends. I did not mention the number of people who got the benefit of our hotel rooms. The hotel nights and the need to decompress and take a shower and to change and not have to stay the night in your car or at a friends house because of the commute. Those who are truly on the front lines we wanted to help them, and in a very short time, the state has already procured 56,000 room nights which have been completely 100 reimbursed. 56,000 room nights to truly manifest the phrase care for our caregivers. I just want to thank the team that helped organize the program and i want people to know we are following through on that, it is scaling, some 19,000 people have filled out applications we are trying to turn them around where so many other applications, thousands of people taking advantage of it and we hope thousands more will in the future. Not everyone of those who inquire about the benefits of this program get 100 reimbursement. Again we grade the complete contribution from an individual and the state based upon income but the 56,000 number is 100 reimbursement and thousands of others are paying a small percentage and i just thought it was important to update you say you know things we announce, we want to keep you connected to not only the cause but to the progress and no that were holding ourselves accountable to progress in that space as well and that includes progress we made that i announced last saturday, project room key for homeless we continue to get more and more rooms every day and more and more people off the streets out of congregant facilities and into those Housing Units as well, this temporary hotel units as well and again we want to thank our partnerships and that place for continuing their vigilance and hard work. Listening into the California Governor Gavin Newsom did give us the daily coronavirus update and today there is a special focus on the 1. 2 million seniors living here in california, the governor outlined a new partnership with restaurants that will enable qualifying seniors to receive three meals a day seven days a week and he noted many of the seniors are perhaps socially isolated and perhaps physically unable to care for themselves in a way that helps maintain their own health both mental and physical and he says the partnership is really a winwin because many of the restaurants, many of which are shut down or only able to offer takeout services, can keep the staff they had to hire back some of the people that elect the recently to help feed california seniors and keep them employed. Seniors win by getting a nutritious and delicious meal and the restaurants win because they have been put back to work essentially the governor said it is not for everybody and you do have to be a qualifying senior and outline a few things to be one good you have to be a senior at high risk of exposure to the coronavirus, seniors must be able to meet in economic need threshold, 600 of the federal poverty limit, i do not have the number readily available but you do have to be in some sense of economic and financial need. A senior can either been exposed to the coronavirus or have a compromised immune system. The governor said the best way for seniors who might need this help to reach out and get it is simple, pick up the phone and call 211 or go on the coronavirus website which is covid19. Ca. Gov and mike , the governor also said that many social agencies doing outreach work fold this into their plans, into their long list of questions and concerns and they asked californians, so many of whom need special help at this time. It is just a huge number about it, the governor said four or 5 million seniors living in california and 1. 2 million seniors live by themselves and it pains me to think of that image but a lot of them unable to get out the door. Take about what it is like for you to be shelter in place with family. It is a big number of 1. 2 million, i think the program is wonderful and it helps the Restaurant Industry a bit, not a lot but a bit and it keeps people employed and it helps out seniors the governor also mentioning United Airlines stepping up to the plate and these employees who would usually be booking flights online or answering Customer Service calls will now be doing Wellness Checks here in california with the seniors. The governor mentioning all of those cert teams across the cornea and those are the community Emergency Response teams and these are volunteers in the community who have been trained to prepare for disasters and no doubt we are living in a disaster right now all across the country and so those volunteers are checking in on the seniors. More coverage of the governors Daily Briefing online to ktvu. Com and we will have more news and a check of the forecast coming up right after the break. Thank you all of this warm weather, you may be enticed to go outside but remember the Stay Home Order does stay in place and Elissa Harrington has the warning from sacramento. Reporter signs posted on the iron horse trail in danville remind hikers, bikers and joggers that social distancing is required on trails. Stay 6 feet away from others and wear masks where required bit we get that people want to feel the sun on their skin but we want to be sure they do francisco recreation and parks urges people to stay close to home this weekend and if you have to take a car to get your destination you have gone too far it is fine to got a good exercise which is essential but hanging out all day is not. Take a walk and a jog, explore a trail and then go home and do not call your friends and sunbathe all day. The pandemic has many people cooped up at home and yesterday governor gavin newsom announced 115 people who have died this past 24 hours which is the most california in a single day. People want to go to the beaches and arcs and playgrounds and go on a hike and i anticipate it will be significant increase in volume, but i also think if there is, and people are not practicing physical distancing, i will be announcing in a week or so these numbers going back up. I dont think anybody wants to hear that. That is even though santa clara guidance strongly urges his coverings in public but doesnt require them. People we talk to this morning outside of a Safeway Store in milpitas supported the move by the city. I am glad we are doing it because seriously all of us are little afraid and all of us are staying home im we have done a great job because i do not see anybody anywhere and there is no traffic. Six other bay area counties made wearing a mask in public mandatory earlier this week. North of the bay area lake county is listening Stay Home Orders and as of yesterday select businesses can reopen including golf courses, pet grooming services and the highlands springs shooting range, real estate transactions are allowed to take place and people can resume Outdoor Activities in public areas which includes fishing from the shore at clearlake, canoeing and kayaking are also allowed but no sailboats are allowed to maintain physical separation and lake county has seen a six confirmed cases of coronavirus. A new poll says that three or four californians stay at home or should be in place as long as necessary and the online poll sponsored by the California Healthcare Foundation nonprofit found strong support across all demographic groups with more than 70 of people in each age, income and racial or ethnic group in favor of the ongoing orders despite the economic fallout. Only about one out of increase the spread of the virus. A new 480 billion relief package was signed into law today by President Trump and as ktvus allie rasmus reports this time around congressional leaders say Small Businesses will get the number of monies they need. Reporter congressional leaders of added reforms and close loopholes in the previous relief bill so this time around money will go to businesses with fewer than 500 employees. In your loan application the treasury will now require you to certify do not have other re available sources of cash. And so these will really be used for the rescues that they are intended. The bill includes between 310 320 billion for the Patient Protection program for available loans and grants of Small Businesses to keep workers on the payroll and 75 billion for the healthcare system, 25 billion more coronavirus testing. President trump signed it today and congressional representatives confirmed if youre a Small Business owner who already applied for the ppp help, if you have verification from your lender you do not have to apply your already in the queue but the second round of rescue money is expected to go quickly. There have been estimates that in fact there is already enough of a backlog from the first go round that the existing applications will already exhaust this 300 billion so we have probably not seen the end of the help for Small Businesses. Now there is a debate about where the next round of stimulus money should go and Congressional Democrats they the states and local governments need and should get federal help spent probably the number equivalent for what we have done for Small Businesses but i do not know, we are asking for their evaluation of the need because our teachers, firefighters, First Responders and the rest need the resources that the funding for state and local will bring. There is disagreement along partisan lines on what to do this and Senate Majority leader Mitch Mcconnell and other republicans say states and local governments should instead declare bankruptcy. The everincreasing number of people filing for jobless claims has created a backlog here in california, ktvu political reporter greg lee takes a look at the frustrations and what is being done to fix this. Reporter every day for the last month ebony has followed the same routine, wake up and call the state Employment Development department or add about her unemployment insurance. When i call add i used three phones to call them back to back to back and i feel i am calling the Radio Station trying to win concert tickets and im not getting through and not getting through. I have been doing this a month. Ebony has one of dozens of people who have called or emailed ktvu frustrated with the slow process and an inability to reach anyone at edd. Many say they can apply online but certain situations and questions can only be answered via phone and after filing in midmarch ebony still hasnt seen money. I had to borrow money from my sister to get to my mothers with gas and take my older kids to be sheltered in place in a safe environment where they can be comfortable and not have to worry about where we will eat. The people that are a week or two behind me good luck it will probably be a couple more weeks just because that massive volume and they have to send out 700,000 cards and how do you do that . Skip Just Got Paid after one month of waiting and in response to the staggering volume the edd moved more than 1300 employees to answer phones and process claims. Last week Governor Newsom announced the extension of phone center hours of but still problems persist. Help when it labor secretary held a Facebook Live on monday responding to several frustrated people. And it is not acceptable and it is not how we want to run california and it is not how we want the call center to work. It was not capable of handling the number of calls and who can access those and move those calls from one xt, it was more technical problem than a manpower issue. Bay area state senator jerry hill is the chair of the Labor Committee which oversees the edd and he wants people to know the office is moving as quickly as possible during this unprecedented moment. What are some of the things, in addition to oversight, that you and your constituents or your peers at the legislature could ostensibly do if we continue to see some of the slowdowns, or have you explore those options . We will make the changes and adjustments necessary to meet the demand and certainly make sure that people are not unnecessary wainthose allimportant checks. Workers advocacy groups have seen a surge from calls a people struggling with unemployment and their advice is to apply online if you can. If you cannot be patient, persistent and keep track of everything. So just really document their attempts of trying to get through on the ld be if theyve not been able backdated to when they eventually get through and get their money that should be retroactive. Was still have to pay bills and survive and live life. It is like they are not being completely msi cut or completely empathetic to the situation spent another surge will start april 28 when independent contractors can begin applying for pandemic on employment assistance. Yes indeed and your from the Livermore Valley and i am from the Sacramento Valley and when temperatures get up to 90 that is very warm and that is exactly what is happening for the inland cities today put some of the warmest temperatures weve seen so far this season and perhaps breaking a few records. Outside the doors at this hour a lot of sunshine to go around, birds are singing and the trees are blooming in full effect. As a reminder it is allergy season for many and if you have the sneezes this could be why but looking at Storm Tracker to we have a ridge of High Pressure strengthening today and it will be the warmest day today. As we get into the weekend begins to change a little. Notice the system approaching the Pacific Northwest which will break down the ridge some and bring down temperatures as well but more on that in the extended forecast but lets look at what is happening now with the north and northwest flow in place. Half moon bay testing the 24 Miles Per Hour and sfo reporting 16 and an onshore breeze along the east bay shore and we saw this in the Oakland Hills this past half hour and now it is right around hayward at 7 mph. Generally light wind unless at the coastline where it is very breezy and this afternoon temperature speaking at 70 around pacifica and 90 for the inland cities which could see upper 80s for areas like santa rosa and the inner east bay and into the south bay. Notice future cast going into tomorrow morning things will change up, the low clouds are back up against the coastline and if you stretch your eyes further north above Northern California is a little bit of rain moving in areas like oregon and washington but we will not see that rain, however we get it cool down from it and into the afternoon we do break away to partly cloudy skies for most of the bay area, the coastline remains partly sunny to mostly cloudy and we will get good clearing around santa cruz and capitola. Temperatures right now low 60s over areas of Half Moon Bay and upper 60s in San Francisco. Low to mid 70s the bay area, 72 in oakland and 71 and sfo. Look at fairfield inland, 89 the north bay and 83 over santa rosa the inner east bay where we see some of the hotter temperatures is 86 in pittsburgh and 83 in san ramon and clayton. A lot of upper 70s, and so for the afternoon today we will go upper 70s the low 80s around the bay, upper and then things start to change into the we can forecast have a notable drop on saturday and even cooler on sunday only to rebound into monday and tuesday all in all a goodlooking forecast.
