Experts in the nursing home field fear the Coronavirus Crisis at Senior Living centers is worse than the official numbers are suggesting. More than 30 bay area skilled Nursing Homes report coronavirus cases. That number is expected to go even higher. About a third of the infected Nursing Homes are in santa clara county. Alameda county has nine affected Nursing Homes, six in San Francisco, and two reported in san mateo and contra costa counties. What we are seeing is just the tip of the iceberg, and its going to get much, much worse before it gets better. It does not include the real number of illnesses and deaths at facilities, who for business reasons basically dont want to tell regulators just how bad the problem is. The governor wants those numbers to include the 7,000 adult and Senior Care Centers all over the state as well as skilled Nursing Homes. Those homes say they are taking action to try and stop the spread of the virus by banning visitors, screening staff and obeying state and federal guidelines. Happening today, Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer says an agreement has been reached on the nearly 500 billion economic stimulus package. The flames broke out this morning at Bethel Church on cutting boulevard near carlson boulevard. The flames are out but earlier this morning they were shooting through the roof. California is now reporting more than 33,000 confirmed coronavirus cases and more than 1,200 people have died in the state. Many cases are in los angeles county, now considered the epicenter of the crisis here in california. Specifically in the bay area, public Health Officials say the number of people hospitalized with the virus has gone down over the past few weeks. Sanfrancisco Health Officials released a map of the cases based on zip codes. The director of Public Health says the highest number of cases is currently in the mission district. Health Officials Say data shows 25 of all covid19 cases in the city of San Francisco involve latinos. Despite that demographic, they make up only 15 of the citys population. Unfortunately Health Emergencies exploit the inequalities in society. Health Officials Say contributing factors could be crowded Living Conditions and the inability to reduce the number of trips outside the home. The map also shows south of market there are a higher number of covid19 cases. More than 100 people at one homeless shelter in that zip code have tested positive. Schumer says they are still finalizing details but believes the bill will pass today. With this bill, billions of dollars will help hospitals and also boost testing for the virus. Testing was a major sticking point. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says testing is one of the places they want the language to be as good as they can agree to. Muni will start up service on many lines that were shut down earlier this month. 51 lines throughout the city were shut down after a 90 drop in ridership. There will be limited service on several lines including the early bird shuttle beginning on saturday. Social distancing will limit the amount of people allowed on each bus. Back to you. An investigation is underway after an Early Morning fire at a Historic Church in richmond. Allie rasmus has more. Reporter the good news is no one was hurt and the fire is now out. You can see some of the damage done to the Bethel Church at 35th and cutting boulevard in richmond. It was around 5 30 a. M. That firefighters first got the call about this. No one was inside and no one was hurt but the damage to the church is pretty clear. The chief at the scene told us earlier this morning after the fire broke out they called for help from firefighters in surrounding areas. Up to 33 firefighters tackled that fire with flames shooting through the roof of the nearly 100yearold buildings. The pastor says the buildings smoke alarms did go off. He was at home and got a call about the fire, so he rushed over to take a look this morning. The damage, its pretty bad. The back of the church, theres a lot of damage to the dining hall area. We had another Smaller Church in the back along with the offices. And the upstairs looks like its burnt down. The pastor says since the stayathome orders went into effect last month, no one has gathered at the church for services, which have been moved online. He didnt know what could have sparked the fire and the cause there is under investigation. Firefighters recently left that scene after watching the hot spots. Officers say 10yearold wesley otten and 12yearold isaac flores were last seen leaving their homes last night and may have stopped at a nearby 7 eleven. If you have information on the two, call police. More Health Care Workers are demanding better protection against the coronavirus. A group of medical workers at San Mateo Medical Center rallied at the hospital yesterday, asking for additional personal protective equipment. The group says they have had to work overtime because of Staff Shortages at the facility, and called on San Mateo County itself to provide Health Care Coverage for those with limited incomes who the county is telli nurses ant front line staff that they will not have presumptive eligibility during this covid19 pandemic. This county is not protecting us, should we contract covid 19. We did reach out to the county but havent yet received a response. Medical officials fear that the coronavirus threat in Senior Living facilities is actually a lot worse than official numbers suggest. More than 30 bay area skilled Nursing Homes are reporting coronavirus cases and the numbers are expected to go up. About a third of the affected Nursing Homes are in santa clara county. What we are seeing is just the tip of the iceberg, and its going to get much, much worse before it gets better. It does not include the real number of illnfor business reasons basically, are not wanting to tell regulators just how bad the problem is. Governor newsom says he wants to update the numbers to include the 7,000 adult and Senior Care Centers statewide as well as skilled Nursing Homes. The homes they say are taking action to stop the spread of the virus like stopping visitors, screening staff, and following state and federal guidelines. This morning Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer says an agreement has been reached on another stimulus package of 500 billion. The legislation includings 75 billion for hospitals, 25 billion for testing, and funding the Payroll Protection Program, which ran out of money. If the legislation passes today in the senate, members of the house may need to rush back to washington to vote tomorrow or thursday, unless House Speaker nancy pelosi is able to find another way for house members to vote. Thousands of Small Businesses including many in the bay area were not able to secure loans through the first round of the governments paycheck protection program. Much of that 349 billion went to large restaurants and hotel chains. By the time Small Business owners could get in applications, the money was all gone. Its frustrating because when i see people that have Profit Margins in the millions of dollars, and theyre asking for money, and im like, we may not make it past two months. Amy had to lay off 12 employees from her pet sitting company and she applied for a loan through the paycheck protection program. She didnt hear anything back from the government, then heard the program had run out of money. Many bay area Law Enforcement agencies are reporting a big drop in crime since the shelterinplace orders went into effect. There has been a recent jump in one type of crime in the bay area. Police report school burglaries are up 550 from this time last year. One principal says computer equipment has been taken and wonders why thieves are targeting the school. Violent crimes are down 25 and property crimes are down 32 . Police will be releasing body camera video after a deadly officerinvolved shooting inside a Walmart Store over the weekend. Video shows officers confronting 33yearold Steven Taylor while he was holding a baseball bat on thursday. Officers used a taser first, then taylor advanced toward officers and one officer fired. The family says it was an excessive use of force. At that point it was their job to surround him and get him help. Instead they administered two more taser shots. Police say they will release the body camera video by the end of the week. The Alameda CountyDistrict Attorneys Office is also investigating the shooting. And a class suit has been filed against wells fargo, accused of unfair action against Small Businesses that tried to get the government sponsored loan under the paycheck protection program. The lawsuit claims wells fargo prioritized businesses seeking large loan amounts instead of processing the applications on a first come first serve basis. According to the suit, wells fargo reshuffled the applications because it would receive millions more dollars in processing fees from the larger loans. Wells fargo has not commented on the lawsuit.
