When an emergency call comes in from someone complaining of flulike symptoms, from now on this specialized vehicle will be dispatched and carry a more special team of firefighters, a Pandemic Response unit or pru. The purpose of the pru is to reduce the possibility of exposure and contamination of covi, the 19 to not only the community but to our employees. The unit consists of three twoperson teams. One team per 48hour shift. Each unit has a firefighter who is also trained as a paramedic and another trained as an emergency medical technician. Thaw will deal with the possible covid19related calls only. Frontline heroic duty in frightening times. We ask, but none of the unit wanted to speak publicly about it. I really applaud our employees who stepped up into this role. It was put out as a voluntary request. If they have separate sleeping quarters and separate day quarters. So they are totally separate from the normal fire fashion stations. And they just go to flurelated calls. Those calls come in ath an average of 11 a day. Not all turn out to with be covid 19. The trucks are looed with high level protective gear and state of the art contamination equipment. The pru team has special gear. They have different glovers and face masks.
