Today he announced he is banding together with governors of. We begin a process of establishing what it would look like and how we can begin the process of the kind of incremental release of the stay athome orders, that advanced fundamental, keeping people safe, using science to guide our decisionmaking, not political pressure. The state will spend 42 million on support programs for children. Especially children in foster care to help with certain challenges during this pandemic. The white house says it is seeing progress in the coronavirus pandemic, with new infections flatten out across the country. Resident trump also spent time this afternoon pushing back against criticism, by the new york times, and others, that the u. S. Was slow to urge social distancing to fight the virus. This weekend, dr. Anthony fauci set on cnn that if the u. S. Had taken action earlier, it could have saved lives. Today, he said that was in response to a hypothetical question. Mitigation works, and you instigated, into initiated earlier, you will probably have saved more lives. If you initiated later, you probably would have lost more lives. You initiated at a certain time. That was taken as a way that maybe somehow something was at fault here. He said whenever he and the Coronavirus Task force recommended action, the white house accepted them. And despite a retreat to the hashtag fire fauci, President Trump said he has no intentions of firing the doctor. Back to the situation in california, we are expected to reach the peak of covid19 deaths this week. For more lets bring in dr. , an Infectious Disease specialist there at stanford. Thank you so much for being here this afternoon. These are just models, but they do in fact suggest that the next few days could be particularly difficult for us here. Yeah, you know, models are always not exactly reality, and some hospitals are seeing a reduction in cases, and fewer deaths, fewer people in the icu, but there are still pockets of areas in california, and even in our area, where people have not been able to do as much social distancing, places like nursing homes, jails, certain communities where people live very close together, and those are the places where we are probably going to continue to see deaths and other severe cases, so we really need to help those areas. When you talk about those little pockets, what is most concerning about those to you . There is not always an equal access to care, to prevention, to testing, and how do we help all communities, all people, and Health Workers in all areas really keep up with the, you know, the treatment, and, and testing that is available because we have rolled out widespread testing but we are still seeing new cases and deaths, and we want to be able to really act on the early and prevent any bad outcomes. A lot of people are looking ahead and hoping that once things peak, that perhaps things will then flatten out. Explain to the audience what will happen once things do peak here in the bay area. Yeah, we, i guess the question is what is next, right, after the peak . And we are not quite ready to answer that yet. First of all, we have to get over the peak, and we know that social distancing and the other measures that we put in have really worked. But when, when you open up everything again, then obviously we will have a second wave, and are we ready for that second wave . Not quite yet, we have to be able to handle new cases quickly, get testing rolled out quickly, preventative measures, we are working on clinical trials, prevention, and treatment, and it would be really nice to have some of those really ready as our second wave and third waves come up. We are just about out of time but sort of piggybacking on that question, obviously, slowing the rate of infection, that has been the point of the stayathome orders, but how does the curve need to flatten, how much does it need to flatten . Before officials declared that okay, the worst is now behind us . As i said committee to flatten it all pockets and all people who are going to be coming out of isolation, so it is hard to say exactly how much, but we have to really be confident that even once it flattens completely, that, as i said, there will be blips, new cases, and how to, we need to be ready for them, so, you know, i think the governor and our county officials have been fantastic in their responses, so i look forward to hearing, you know, when they are ready to make the next move. As we all are, and as you mentioned this week will in fact be telling for the bay area. Always appreciate your time. Thank you. The family of a man who died at a nursing home in hayward is now speaking out. They say he became infected with coronavirus at that facility were eight other residents have died. Henry lee joins us now after speaking with the family today, and henry, you have more on what it is they want to see happen now. Reporter the family has maintained high profile civil rights attorney who says this facility could be liable for negligence in both civil and criminal court. My wonderful husband, and the paycheck of our family, passed away after having caught the virus. Reporter diane is in morning after her husband died at a hayward nursing home were eight other residents with covid19 have died. My husbands death was tragic, and preventable. He is not with us today because of the mistakes and negligence. Reporter she says her husband was taken to gateway care and Debilitation Center after a diabetes medication error at kaiser, he lived in a room by himself and must have contracted the virus from a staff member. At no time while visiting gateway did we ever see staff wearing masks, before and after the outbreak. Reporter he spent his last days alone because of a lockdown at gateway. You never got to say goodbye. To my husband. Of 65 years. Or to tell him i loved him. Reporter the Attorney Says if staff is pressure to work at gateway if they have symptoms or did not have proper safety gear, that is, conduct. If true, they should be prosecuted for allowing that type of conduct. Our view here is notwithstanding, he should not be dead of a consequence of the coronavirus. Reporter there so accepting new residents. They continue to admit and allow people to stay there. Despite this facility being overran with the virus, they essentially handed people who we know to be the most vulnerable a death sentence. Reporter they have filed a complaint with state health officials, gateway already has a history of violations. Reporter we need answers to all of these questions so we know what really happened there, and to make sure that this does not ever happen in the future to anybody else. Reporter gateways management referred me to a statement they issued several days ago which says they focus on caring for patients and ensuring the safety of their staff. Police in San Francisco have shut down a nightclub that they say was operating in spite of the citys shelter in place order. They report that police raided that Unlicensed Club on shafter avenue in the Bayview District after getting reports of events that were being held inside the warehouse there. City attorney Dennis Herrera and police chief bill scott shut down the unnamed club on saturday after securing a warrant from a judge. Surveillance video shows more than 150 people streaming into the illegal nightclub over the course of 48 hours, for events that were being held between two and six in the morning. According to the chronicle, Police Seized nine given machines, bins of liquor and other party items. A decline in new coronavirus cases has some officials hopeful the u. S. Our j. P. Morgan advisors are working from home to help guide you through this. For more than 200 years, weve helped our clients navigate historic challenges. And we will get through this one. Together. To the National Numbers on the pandemic from 500,000 on friday the u. S. Is now above 570,000 cases of coronavirus. In the epicenter, new york, there are more than 195,000 confirmed cases and more than 10,000 people have died there. There is still positive news coming out of new york, where the number of deaths was below 700 for the first time in a week. Still, a staggering toll with 671 people succumbing to the virus just yesterday. But the new York Governor Andrew Cuomo says hospitalizations are starting to flatten at about 2000 People Per Day being admitted. This is the number we have been watching because the great fear for us was always overwhelming, the hospital system, the capacity of the hospital system. Semisch of hospitals that were supposed to deal with unexpected influx of covid19 patients are now reporting empty beds. There are currently about 60 patients onboard the Navy Medical Ship comfort, only a few hundred patients are at the 2500 bed. There are currently about 60 patients onboard the Navy Medical Ship comfort, only a few hundred patients are at the 2500 bed javits ctr. Which is in midtown manhattan. For more, lets bring in mark devoe, former fema president ial play. We talk about the peak coming here sometime maybe later this week, other models put it a little farther out but the increase in hospitalizations remains in the single digits, it would seem, day after day. A very encouraging sign, you know, there was talk early on of having to add 50,000 more hospital beds here to handle a search. How do you think we are looking hear from that standpoint . Well, it must be very optimistic, because the governor is going to announce tomorrow some easing of the stayathome. Im sure that will be geographical in certain areas and they want to make sure before they do that, that they have a few things in place. And that is they want to make sure that they have the ability to isolate and test people, they want to make sure they have the Surge Capacity which is what you are referring to, alex, and that was always the intent, flattening the curve was making sure we have the ability to treat the critical patients in the hospitals. So they are seeing something there in those statistics and the flattening of the numbers, that will allow them to say we can ease this somewhat in certain areas. Lets talk about what we expect this roadmap to reopening here in california to look like. Who gets to go back to work, back to school, whatever it is, first here . What sectors of the economy get back on track first, do you think . I think what we have heard from before was the schools are going to continue to be out, probably until next year, i dont think theyre going to change that. They will want to make sure they pay special attention to the congregate living, which are the jails, some of the senior homes, they want to make sure they have the capability to treat those people, have adequate personnel, i think essential services you see them right now, they are still operating, but i think it is going to be more about where they are seeing hotspots in the state. They want to take a look, do we continue to have to serve that population, test, etc. , for fear that the virus could come up a second time, and that is a difficult part in this whole formula, is, have to get the economy back up and operating but you dont want to do it too quick, and then have a second wave of infection. That is the big concern. So we have gov. Newsom working in concert with the governors of washington and oregon, and they want to have this coordinated strategy here on the west coast in terms of what the game plan is going to be to begin reopening things. Why do think it is important for all of these neighboring states here on the west coast to be on the same page . Isnt that innovative . I mean, this governor has been very innovative, in some of the approaches he has taken him to be able to solve this pandemic, or at least respond to it, not necessarily solve it. But i think what you are seeing is that the west coast is actually the gateway to an awful lot of what goes on in the rest of the country. We know a lot of the freight that goes throughout the rest of the country comes through some of the seaports on the western side come along beach, oregon, seattle, those areas. So i think that the specialty becomes one of the things, we have to open up, get commerce, not just in california but the west coast, to support the rest of the country. Before i let you go, one final question here. Having to do with, you know, the state control here on these issues and the federal governments control here. President trump says he is the ultimate decisionmaker on when stayathome orders and social distancing guidelines are going to be lifted. What happens if gov. Newsom and President Trump are not on the same page here about what the process should look like and when things should start to reopen . There will be a great discussion, no question about that. Mostly, they lean toward states rights being the governor, but this governor has been very, very earnest and worked very hard to maintain that relationship with the president on behalf of california residents. They will reach an agreement between the two of them as to when they ink it is in the best interest because they know that is what is important right now, not to have difference but to have harmony in responding to the pandemic. We have seen gov. Newsom and President Trump have a very strong working relationship, both sides have said as much here throughout this pandemic. Mark devoe, former fema court nader and president ial appointee, always appreciate your insight. Thank you. To help businesses stay afloat during this pandemic, congress has set aside about 2. 2 trillion. Now part of that is also earmarked for employees of Small Businesses, to continue collecting their salaries. Rob roth found many Business Owners say applying for those emergency fundings has been anything but easy. Reporter opening this maternity store on sacramento street in San Francisco 23 years ago wasnt easy, city owners, but it was nothing compared to apply for federal leave for Small Businesses. The hardest thing ive done in 23 years. By a long shot. They have apply for about 96,000 to the paycheck protection program, for their seven employees. ueight days, there still waiting for the money. I want to pay my staff, they win money, they need it today, they cant, they have not had a paycheck in three weeks. That is not okay. They are at 34 9 billion life raft designed to get cash into the hands of small Business Owners those with fewer than 500 employees were being crushed by the coronavirus pandemic. Businesses are directed to apply for the money through banks, to get the fund to the Small Business administration. But Business Owners say the process is moving too slowly. Zero, zero money, no word, nothing. Paul miller owns the labs, he is trying to get money to pay his nine employees. We go around because theres a network of bar owners, and everyone is talking, like where is, where is this money, how do we get it, a lot of confusion, nobody seems to know. As of monday, 941,000 people ppe applications have been approved nationwide, totaling 228 billion, no word on when businesses will see that money. They issued a statement saying our top priority is making sure these programs are up and running as fast as possible to provide relief to businesses. They say it is severely understaffed. Not enough money, not enough infrastructure, you are not going to get the money to the Small Businesses quick enough. At first i was like its going to be all right but now im crunching numbers and im getting worried. That was rob roth reporting, he has all of this, of course, crating a lot of anxiety for Small Business days. Many worry the money will come simply too late but they say there is not much that they can do but wait. For a lot of folks it was a pretty great weekend, both saturday and sunday, but fortunately here on monday, the sun kind of broke free today, and it is a really nice day out there. It certainly did, and it has turned into just a stellar afternoon, and the warmup is just beginning. So lets take a live look outside here, and you can see that it is just a Beautiful Day in the bay, temperatures already getting pretty impressive here for april, 71 degrees in santa rosa, 61 in San Francisco, 66 in oakland, check out livermore at 72 degrees in san jose 70 degrees for you, that is, as you can see here from the temperature change map here, 24 hours ago to now, that is about anywhere from about 2 to 8 degrees warmer than we were this time yesterday. A look at the Storm Tracker shows you, not a cloud in the sky, you have to kind of zoom out here to see any clouds, High Pressure is built in, that is protecting us, not just the bay area but most of california looking quite cloud free mostly clear night tonight, overnight temperatures will be mild tonight, so we are talking about 44 inland, about 49 out, should be a lovely evening if you will be anywhere sitting on the patio, maybe enjoying some of the beautiful weather, as a shelter at home, and tomorrow, we will wake up to maybe a few coastal clouds, but i think even those will have a hard time getting going, sunny skies, beautiful by the bay, about 64 degrees at 11 am, as you work the way up to a high of about 71 degrees, certainly well above average in San Francisco tomorrow from where we would normally be this time of year. And the highs kind of all around the bay, 68 at the coast, about 75 around places like oakland and 79 in our inland communities, so absolutely stellar sunshine, from beginning to end for tomorrow, and it is not just tomorrow that these warm temperatures with us, i talk a little bit more about that when i come back with your extended forecast. One bay Area Organization now is reaching out to older adults with virtual therapy sessions to try to keep them active and engaged. The Presumptive Democratic nominee is unveiling his plan to get americans working again as the 2020 Campaign Shifts into general election mode. Peter ducey reports now from arlington, virginia. Reporter many Young Democrats now need a new candidate. If he can move in that direction, i think people will say you know what, this is the guy we should support and will support. Reporter that is what joe biden is doing and they find him tied with trump after falling seven points since march. The Presumptive Democratic nominee is borrowing from bernie. He doesnt support medicare for all but he Just Announced he wants the medicare eligibility age lowered to 60. He doesnt support forgiving all student loan debt, but he does not support illuminating it for lower and middle income students. He says sen. Our coalition cannot win the general election, joe biden by himself in his coalition cannot win the november election against donald trump. Reporter that is what he is trying to do now with no in person interaction, all while President Trump makes or mixes it up in person with reporters every night. And election that is shaping up to be the Briefing Room versus the rec room. In arlington, virginia, peter ducey, fox news. Health officials have crossed the country to track the covid19 pandemic and now there is a way for healthcare workers to see what is coming, and joining me now this afternoon is timothy of hospital iq, thank you so much for being here, you Just Launched of this free, new tool, explain what it does. This is a dashboard that gives county level forecast for covid19. You can look at the dashboard, for your county, right here in the bay area, and see what to expect. When are we going to need the most hospital beds . How many deaths are going to be coming our way . How many more the one will dissuade be over, when can potentially go back to work . All of those steps are right there on the dashboard. What data are you using to come up with these predictions . So i work for a Company Called hospital iq, and we are a team of engineers and data scientists. We got together to figure out what we can do to help make a difference in is very uncertain time, and at first he built a model from scratch ourselves, but while we are experts are predicting activity inside of hospitals, Something Like this has never happened before, and where we are not epidemiologists, so we turned to the best teams and models. There is a group out there that is very outstanding job, he became a pretty worldwide recommends will model, they cite them as the murray model and we have taken their data, which gives statebystate level forecast and we have a lighted to each county in the country, so there over 300 different counties and that, we take their data, we take a look at the county, we try to basically map what is going on at the county level compared to the state level, and translate that to the forecast. And beyond that we also look at all of the learning information, from the Johns Hopkins university tracking project, the covid tracking project, to get steps like the number of tests, confirmed cases, and all that you can see here on the dashboard. I think one of the most useful numbers for your years might be the number at the top, the days until peak. We are all ages the awaiting the peak. The curve here for the region in california has done exactly what we set up to do, we tried to flatten the curve, we tried to stay at home and keep our social distance, and you can see that right here in the forecast, you can see a much flatter curve, spreading out, and the overall document live death rate dropping significantly, so we found that the dashboard we put together really sets up to do two things pretty well. One is it helps the hospital customers plan capacity, and the other, for the general public, which is why we made it public, to help people feel more at ease, to understand there is a light at the end of the tunnel and all the sacrifices they are making is for the greater good and it is making a difference. I think that light is what we are all looking forward to. We are just about out of time but as you know this is very dynamic. So with things kind of changing day by day, so how are you able to keep up with the changes that happen . Is this dashboard in real time . It is. So we pull data every half hour, we are looking at all of our different data sources and bringing it together, it has been has helpful for the hospitals. They can go to one source and get all the information and know it is up to date. A really important to especially right now. I appreciate you coming on to talk about it. Thank you. For those of you who cant get enough of netflix is a smash hit, tiger king, you are in luck. Tonight, tmz looks into what really went down behind the scenes and up next i will talk with Harvey Leavitt about what comes to light during this special. We are just getting this warmth party started, i will tell you how long it will last and how far the temperatures will go up. Your weather is next. Tonight, a special on the hit netflix show tiger king errors right now, so the crew at tmz is building on the popularity of that show by exploring some of the questions left unanswered by the series including of course what happened to the husband, missing since 1997 and presumed dead. For more we are joined now by tmzs harvey levin. Is very good to see you. What you make of the insane popularity of tiger king. What is the appeal . The appeal is clear to me that here you have this crazy people, in this crazy situation, and something that most of us have never been exposed to before, and then at the same time, you have the overlay of a crime story and this is really a good crime story, alex, where you have, you know, murder and attempted murder and betrayal and hatred and all of these other things. So it was destined to be a hit. So you and your team, you interviewed a number of people for this special and obviously put it together quite quickly here. Kudos to you. You have a great team there. Do you get any closer in this special to answering that key question of what happened to Carole Baskins question or, rather, husband, do you have any evidence for foul play . We have the sheriff saying dont call this disappearance anymore. This is murder. He never left tampa. He was murdered. And the sheriff tells us, a lot of other things, he says number one he suspicious of carol. And others, he will not call her a suspect, or a person of interest and she says she has no involvement but the sheriff says he believes more people were involved, more than one, he thinks somebody was paid, helps, he is asking them to come forward and he would offer immunity to these people if they will come forward and roll over on the big fish. So that is one thing. But i got to tell you, you watched it, right . I did, yeah. So do you think joe was rightly convicted . Well, i go back and forth on that. I was going to ask you if you guys took a closer look at the strengths of the case against him. Oh, did we ever. Okay. What do you think . Is there a chance he gets set free . Okay, i will try this on you. I interviewed alan glover, the guy who joe exotic gave 3000 to. He says he took the money because that was the money he was paid to kill carole baskin. Joe says that was money to get him out of the zoo because he hated him. I interviewed alan glover. And alan glover was a star witness in joes trial. And hes the only person who got money from joe and that is the overt act. Alan glover said to me coming he said joe exotic caused such misery for animals and people, essentially he said im happy, he said this was payback, and i wish i could have even done more. Alex, if a defense lawyer had heard that, if he said that in the trial, had he done it, i think joe would have been found not guilty because it shows bias, it shows he has an ax to grind, and he is the star witness and he is saying something after he is saying i want to put away, well, i think it is a fair ask, did he really do this as a hit . Because joe was telling anybody who would listen i want to kill her, i want to kill her, he would tell people i want to pay 50,000 and you will hear that on the show, to. But i think he would have been found not guilty and when glover said that to me, i rethought a lot of the case. I am certainly looking forward to seeing that interview. Nice work by you and the team, congrats to you guys on putting this together in short order and really looking forward to seeing you tonight and im sure so many other folks are, who have seen the show. 9 00 tonight. 9 00 tonight. I will let you know, it is good to chat with you once again, i hope you are staying safe and you and your family are well. Again, be sure to tune in tonight, first off, for an all new episode of 911 at 8 00, that will be followed by tmz investigate tiger king, what really went down. That airs that 9 00 tonight and of course stick around for the 10 00 news, and the 11 00 news, all right here on ktvu fox 2. That strange saga has a lot of people talking. We will be interested to see what comes up tonight but for now lets bring in our meteorologist for a look at the beautiful weather today. Yes, it is so nice to see you, it has been a wild, my friend. We do have an absolutely Beautiful Day happening outside right now, just gorgeous guys are hardly a cloud out there, but temperatures as well. Lets take a look at some of the weather headlines, so we get to today, a gorgeous day, what is happening tomorrow . Another one just like this, only warmer, a sunny day on tap, mostly sunny skies and thursday we do start to cool down by the time we head toward the weekend, the latter half of the weekend, there is a chance of a little rain. It doesnt look great but we will talk about that in the extended forecast. Lets take a look at the Storm Tracker. Beautiful clear skies and you can see the clouds, you can vote on the Central Coast to find them, down to los angeles and san diego but certainly not on the bay area. Current temperatures right now, 61 degrees in San Francisco, 71 in santa rosa, check out concord at 75, victory and walnut creek, 70 degrees in san jose, we are warm and sunny and we are starting to feel and offshore flow, we will get that dryer, warmer air mass coming in, a little wind right now, and a little wind right now in as well, oakland about 15 Miles Per Hour and for the south you can d we have a gust at about 80 Miles Per Hour. But not bad. Highpressure will be in control today, tomorrow, right into, that will keep us warm and dry but as we head into into the latter half of the weekend, we will see the High Pressure start to break down and that will change our pattern but for now check out the future cast, that was monday going into tuesday, blue skies with us. Wednesday, still gorgeous, thursday we start to see some clouds approach but i think thursday still will be a pretty nice day as we get later into thursday and friday and we see the clouds start to increase. So that is what is coming our way. That will bode well for us with fog in the morning as well, we should do just fine tomorrow. Overnight lows, oakland tonight, 49 degrees. 44 in santa rosa, 48 in the layhill. It will be mild out there, you know, not a particularly chilly night at all. As we look at our temperatures tomorrow, take a look at these numbers. I mean, San Francisco will be in the 70s tomorrow, 71 degrees, even out of the coast of pacifica. We are talking close to 80 in places like santa rosa, fairfield, antioch. I think you can get up there, concord about 78 for your high, san jose 77, morgan hill 78. You get the idea, it will be gorgeous, it will be sunny, everybody. He was your forecast, you see that one sticking with us tuesday and wednesday, clouds coming thursday but still a real nice day. Friday we start to feel the cooldown of the first system approaching us, it is not bring us any rain, head toward the weekend, notice that did back to the 60s. Clouds will be increasing and sunday that is where we have a chance of a shower, so just a chance right now but certainly the cooling effect of the temperatures will be felt. So alex and heather, enjoy the gorgeous weather, hopefully people can get out in their yards or maybe on the patio and get some sunshine. I think it helps. It certainly does. Thank you so much. Some light during these dark times to tell you about. Coming up, we tell you about the nightly concert bringing a Community Together during the stayathome order.
