City leaders said basically because all parks are closed the only place people can go outside is for walks in the neighborhood. He explained that people who live on these streets included in this closure will still be able to drive cars to their homes. This will allow for local traffic. I just cannot believe to this day at the doctors and the nurses put their lives at risk to save mine. Casey left a long letter of thanks on the wall of her hospital room. She felt ill last month and spent seven days in the icu at kaiser in san rafael. She was released from the hospital one week ago. Now she continues to recover at home. We continue to follow a covid19 outbreak at a nursing nursing facility in the east bay. So far, more than 60 people have been infected at that nursing home. At least seven people have died. This is taking place in in the gateway care and Rehabilitation Center in the city of hayward. Elissa harrington joins us live this morning with more on the story. What is especially concerning is many of these people whmeso far fox 2 stopped at the facility this morning where it has been quiet. What we are told is that seven residents so far have died and there are 99 beds inside of this facility. At least 40 other residents are sick. 25 Staff Members at gateway also tested positive for covid19. Anxious family members want to know what is being done to protect their loved ones. I know a lot of you are passing the seemingly endless hours at home by turning to your kitchen and baking some of your favorite dishes. Now we are in the time period where we might not be able to get some pantry staples and we have too much of others. Lets help make good use of what is already there. Happy to welcome back olivia cole from the east bay. Thanks for being with us. Youre talking about one of my favorite lunches or dinners, that is corn chowder. You, this is a great pantry staple right now most of us this is great because you can either use canned corn or you can use frozen corn. Is somethi over well in my household. Everybody likes it. And it is quick to make. You cannot miss it up. You can also make this is vegan or vegetarian, switching out for your favorite alternate orbiters. We are going to go ahead and which is always adding bacon to everything. So, youre going to go ahead and put that down in a heavy bottomed pot just go ahead like a said, this is pretty straightforward and basic. You what we havent covered. Youre olive oil, white wine if you have it, i know most of us do. And some potatoes. The good thing about this, olivia is that it is really hard and young enough to be a dinner if you happen to have some salad on the side, that is great. The chatter itself is pretty substantial. Yeah, this is one of those really nice meal replacements. Because you have so many wonderful hearty fiber rich vegetables from your pantry you also put in some cornstarch at the end. If you want it you can definitely omit it if you would like. But it makes things feel a little bit more rich and not like you need something on the side. So, by all means the sourdough you are making or a nice salad on the side. And you are good to go. I happen to have a ton of green onions, they had a lot of that at the market. We brought a lot of them home. Especially in a soup like this i imagine just a little fresh garnish if it is green onion or some herbs clipped from your kitchen window box, it can make a big difference as well. If you are growings at home, whether it is we are going to use chives today, margarine would also be great in this. You can make this more of a southwestern chowder as well, you can add cilantro or like some chili powder. And if you wanted to go more asian you could throw in a little bit of lemongrass or thai basil. Again, this is really versatile to pivot it where you want. A little bit of will help bring out the mommy and make this chowder saying. I went ahead and added in some onions with garlic as well. I went ahead and forgot to add in my butter and olive oil. I will do that. In case you are wanting another alternative going to the Grocery Store or doing any of those types of Meal Delivery or Grocery Delivery Services we are offering grocery delivery with our market pantry boxes every tuesday and friday throughout the bay area. It is a great way to also send a little love to your neighbor or your inlaws or family members he cant see right now, to show them that you are thinking about them without having to worry about them having to go out to the general population. Especially if they are reporter got it, i know that you worked so long to build assault and honey up to what it is now. The mayor of berkeley came up with the idea on wednesday. Now Pacifica Fire Department escorts the easter bunny through the city looking through colorful creations. It is a virtual kind of thing. Where going to be pointing them out. We wont be gathering anything. Again, we want to really emphasize practicing social distancing and try to give everybody something fun to do while they are at home. We are in week four now, i guess. A lot of people are looking forward to something. And it is spring break right now. The city will post pictures of all the eggs they find on the recreation Facebook Page and ask neighbors to share photos, posting them with pacifica strong. While there is no doubt that our lives have changed dramatically over the last three or four weeks. This morning we continue to honor and recognize the heroes out there who are protecting us from this pandemic. Jason toups brings us some of the lasting images. Dont put other peoples lives on the line. You see a doctor or a nurse, a anybody, just give them a huge thank you. The compassion. They are euros in our community. We are doing it for your familys. Staying at home is not mean you are alone. We are here to do what we can to support you and to be there in a time of need. It meant all the world to me that i could still make you happy and feel special on his birthday even though he cannot leave our house.
