Thank you so much for joining us. Here are the numbers in San Francisco. 676 cases, and 10 deaths. You said that 4 of people tested actually have coronavirus. You have discharged 18 people and you tweeted that those numbers make us fortunate. Why do you say that . We expected them to be much worse. The number of cases in San Francisco , and the number of cases in new york were essentially the same. We were gearing up to experience Something Like new york. We feel extraordinarily fortunate that things were far more benign than what we had planned for. We are not out of the woods , people need to continue with the behaviors that got us to this place. 10 deaths in San Francisco. Very tragic. In new york there have been more deaths than a 911. Weve gotten very lucky. In your opinion why are the numbers down compared to other areas . I think that leaders did the right thing and did early when you think about the mayors and the bay area counties requiring everyone to shelter in place as early as march 16th. The leaders of tech companies, apple, google told people to work from home. That was a couple of weeks before other regions were taking it and i think the citizens of San Francisco listen. They believe the science , they heard the recommendations and that has made all the difference. Lets talk about this idea of phase 2. You said that there for steps that need to be met before people can get back to work. That means hospitals is staffed with the necessary equipment , and the state has the ability to test everyone with symptoms , and that they can monitor all confirmed cases and contacts. And there has to be a drop in cases for 14 straight days. We look at those four steps how close are we to meeting each of them . Hospitals are generally doing fine. Theres plenty of capacity. Theres protective equipment and ventilators. We are doing okay. The Testing Capacity is ramping up. We are testing more and more people. The ability of the state to monitor patients with mild symptoms and do Contact Tracing is it getting there and thats going to be very important. The fourth criteria will determine whether we are ready to move onto the next phase. Have we hit the peak of the curve and come down to the point where we are seeing a limited number of cases . We have gotten lucky. We are seeing a few more cases every day. We have not hit the peak and we probably will in about one week. It is looking like we are talking about 34 weeks where we can move to the next stage. So we talk about the next phase is very normal now . Are we looking at a completely different normal . As a result of this pandemic . I think its something between old normal and it now. And exactly what that looks like is a little bit up in the air. I think what you will begin to see is an opening of businesses or liberal of essential businesses. I suspect that will be asked to wear masks for a while. I expect people at a high risk are told that its not time to go back to the normal activities. Because the number of cases are low. If you did get covid19 the chances of that happening would not be high. That will probably be until we have the vaccine. Will have to get used to a new normal. Thank you. For taking the time to talk with us tonight. A dry day today, but clouds are out there. Thats the plan for tomorrow, when we get back a look at the 5day forecast. Reporter hear this medical supply manufacturer the clock is constantly ticking. With lives constantly at stake. For us everybody has to help out. Reporter evolve Manufacturing Technology is shifting their operation. For First Responders they need to make sure that theyre not infected before they come to work. We need to make test kits. Thats why its very important. We never did highvolume before like this. Within two days we were cranking out kick kits. You need a lot of air, oxygen for testing these. And we have to get all of that equipment up and running. Certified to all the fda qualifications. You can to start using a machine to build medical equipment. The started evolving 20 years ago , and she said she never felt set a sense of importance. Reporter the company is also hiring. They plan on adding 200 jobs. Rob roth, ktvu fox 2 news.
