Dog parks, picnic areas, basketball and tennis courts, golf courses, all of them are closed. This new order requires essential businesses must have a plan in place to keep at a safe distance and most construction is prohibited. Every unnecessary contact increases the chance that the virus may spread from one person to another. Santa clara announced the extension of shelter in place orders yesterday. The numbers of cases jumped from 138 to 890 in the last few weeks, county officials are seeing a slow down in the numbers of reported cases and tightening the conditions could accelerate the decline. We cannot afford to hope we can impose these regulations weeks from now. This is the moment when it counts the most to save lives, weeks from now we will have regretted that we did not move sooner. Social distancing is team mandatory and all businesses that are not essential are required to close immediately. The San Jose Police department have started patrols, they said warnings can end a business license or give the bus owner a misdemeanor charge. In california there are 8600 cases confirmed and 182 people have died. 5,000 people are in the in the hospital and either have the coronavirus or are suspected of having the coronavirus. This is a statewide moratorium on all evections and that he mains in effect until the end of may. Reporter there will be, the president said, light at the end of the tunnel, they said 100,000 to 240,000 americans can die from the coronavirus even with social distancing guidelines. If people cannot pay their represent or buy food they are going to go back to work which means they are to come out of quarantine. Coming up on mornings on 2, costing the city of San Francisco millions. In a minute we teelt how much revenue from the citys budget is being missed because of the coronavirus. Plus, we hear from nuns who chose to isolate themselves from the rest of the world. New this morning, for the First Time Since world war two, wimbledon has been canceled. It was scheduled to be played from june 29th through july 12th. Although the number of coronavirus cases will keep riding for weeks, some are optimistic that californias preventive measures may be working. The rise in bay area cases in the past two months is nowhere close to what they are seeing in new york city. They are showing early signs of flattening the curve. Factors include that our state is less densely populated than new york and our state implemented safety procedures earlier than new york. Palm sunday is this weekend but many catholic churches will not hold services because of the coronavirus. But social distancing is not a new idea for for for n urgs nuns. I suggest, if you can, do some sort of exercise to get your heart pumping a bit. Easter Easter Sunday is on april 12th. Religious leaders are encouraging people to stay home. I want to bring in the director of intergroup relations with the American Jewish committee, rabbi, thank you for joining me. My pleasure. I want to start with the fraidz, life above all. That is in the spirit of the jewish tradition. If you look at those three words, life above all, it is important to close your doors as we are in to the month of april. Absolutely, there should be no houses of worship that are open, because they may endanger people and that value must be above all. In the news recently we saw a pastor in the state of florida rested for holding services. What was your reaction when you saw that . If we want to sanctify gods name through the vehicle of religion, we should do it by saving lives and not gathering in large groups and practicings safe distancing. I am sure that this is what our creator wants for us at this time. April eighth, sundown, its just a week away, for many catholics, lent season is up and running. I am wondering tut of year for many of the faiths out there, they could take advantage of this period as a retreat. Do you expect people to come together as families and pray more so than they would have in years past and in the future. It is certainly true that if one wants to observe passover and easter this year, one is going to have to make a graduator effort. That means you have to communicate in different ways. We will have to focus on the values, even if some of the practices are being done in a slightly different way. I love tradition. I think it is very important especially for those in the older community. Senior citizens and the elderly who are very attached to their faiths. What would you tell them, rabbi, ultimately there are some traditions that are going to be lost. This is personal for me. My elderly parents, for the first time in their married life, will have to be alone even though they have five children and those five churp have their families but safety does not allow us to be physically present with them. It would endanger their lives. No doubt the community will be challenged but sometimes when you are challenged, it does bring out the best in humanity. There is no question that the values that stand behind passover and easter can be fulfilled in the age of the Coronavirus Crisis because those values are about taking care of those who are most at risk. We do have ways of doing that even if we can not fussily be together. That means that although the practices may be slidely different, the values can be heightened, that is the true spirit of these holidays. A very important message, as one pastor said, jokingly but seriously, it is time to spring clean our souls out there. Thank you rabbi for the conversation, i know you are busy. Thank you. Coming up on mornings on 2, a tech worker and a restaurant own coming together to protect Small Businesses effected by the coronavirus pandemic, they are coming up with unique ways to keep gas stations and Convenience Stores safe.
