And only central businesses like Grocery Stores can remain open. Seven Bay Area Health departments are letting people know that the current shelter inplace order for San Francisco, san mateo, contra costa, alameda, the city of berkeley, marin, and santa clara counties will remain in effect until may 1st. The initial shelter was set to expire on april 7th but with koefd covid expected to peak this is in effort to slow down the spread of the virus. As we may not realize the impacts of this until its all over. But eventually, we will learn im sure that because of what we have done and how we all have participated in complying with social distancing, it truly has saved lives. Representatives from all seven Bay Area Health jurisdictions involved in had this shared shelterinplace order say they will be releasing more details either today or tomorrow. And statewide across california. That has no Expiration Date and so that remains in effect in oakland. Time is now 6 05. Governor newsom wants to greatly expanded number of Health Care Workers in california for treating the rising number of coronavirus patients. Theres a new program called the California Health corps. Its been launched where current doctors, medical students and paramedics are asked to sign up to work for california. And 37,000 people are worked as being qualified to help out. If youre a Nursing School student or medical school student, we need you. If youve just retired in the last few years, we need you. I think i was put onto this earth to be a for patients and to make a difference. And state licensing boards are suspending at least for now some of the rules so these people can be hired fast and theyll be paid through state and federal funding like fema and other sources. Also, theyll be getting special mal practice insurance. Health experts with the National Coronavirus task force warn that the number of deaths from the virus is expected to escalate within weeks. It needs to be federal guidance so that every state understands that it may look like two cases today that become 20 that become 200 that become 2,000. She predicts 100,000 to 200,000 deaths as a best case scenario. President trump announced that more than 1 million americans have now been tested for the coronavirus. President trump also invited Business Leaders to the Task Force Briefing to talk about their efforts to manufacturer equipment to help combat the coronavirus pandemic. Now the ceo of honeywell says he will be making masks in rhode island and arizona. Ford will convert an out part its factory outside of detroit to manufacturer ventilators. The president also said he hopes to send some of them to some of the hard hit european countries. As we outpace what we need, were going to be sending them to italy, were going to be sending them to france, were going to be sending them to spain where they have tremendous problems. Gm released photos of its factory in indiana where it will be teaming up with the venntech life Systems Company to produce thousands of ventilators per month. Also happening today, a huge Field Hospital in new york citys central park is expected to open today. This comes one day after a u. S. Navy hospital pulled into a dock in manhattan. Now the medical crew on the u. S. N. S. Comfort will relieve new york City Hospitals that are dealing with a surge of virus patients. New york is the clear hot spot for the pandemic with roughly 40 of the u. S. Cases and new yorks governor is asking the entire nation for help. The zandam cruise ship is carrying eight people whove tested positive for coronavirus and more than 100 others who have flulike symptoms and another Holland America cruise ship delivered supplies and picked up passengers who are not sick. The pastor of a large church in tampa, florida, is facing charges this morning for Holding ChurchServices Despite the restrictions on big gatherings. The pastor Ronald Howard brown held two Church Services at the river at Tampa Bay Church on sunday. Now look at the videos here. Shows hundreds of people at the church. Reverend howard brown is out of jail now released on 500 bail. Well renters in several states are vowing to go on a rent strike until the coronavirus pandemic is over. Renters say they want their rental payments waived during the stayathome order. Several states including california have temporarily banned evictions but activists are pushing for landlords to cancel rent payments entirely. Critics argue that a rent strike would further worsen the economy if Property Owners can enforce their own bills. County supervisors will consider giving 650,000 to homeless rental assistance providers. There are five programs the county will work with. Each program would receive 75,000. The remaining money would be used to assist the programs as needed for services. That money would come from a 1 million grant that the Marin Community foundation created last week. San Mission Asset fund will be raising money for clooej students and part time workers. Were talking about individuals that are still waking up, going to work. New this morning, police in san leandro are investigating a deadly crash. It happened at 4 00 this morning on hisperian boulevard. The road is now closed. Authorities have not released information about the person riding the motorcycle. Due to the shelterin place order, Oakland Police cracked down on side shows is now more pressing than ever. Authorities say this past weekend, 450 people gathered to watch drivers perform dangerous and illegal stunts. Three people were arrested. 14 others cited and twelve cars were toed. Videos posted online showed people defied the stayathome order and instead cheered on the side shows. Police say their weekend enforcement will continue. And they want free coronavirus testing and better protection while on the job. San francisco based insta cart says its proegss were not affected by yesterdays strike involving as many as 150,000 employees. Those workers say insta cart is not giving them enough protection when they head to the Grocery Stores and peoples homes. The worlds Biggest Airline is now asking the federal government for 12 billion 200 0000000to help it get through the next six months. American Airlines Says it does not want to cut employee pay or benefits and it will not furlough workers for the next six moss. American airlines hoping to resume its first full flight schedule by the end of september. It has had to cut back on the number of flights it currently offers because passenger demand has dropped sharply. One San Mateo County supervisor wants to crack down on commercial construction work during the pandemic. Six flags announced it will be delaying or closing down parks in the u. S. , mexico, and canada until at least mid may. Six flags ceo says the company is monitoring and following guidance of federal, state, and local officials. Several other theme parks in california have delayed opening until further notice due to the pandemic. Great america is now closed with hopes of reopening in mid may at this point. The Santa Cruz Beach board walk has also closed. Disneyland in Southern California is also closed until further notice. No opening dates set there and Universal Studios has extended its closure through at least april 19th. The organizers of the popular burning manifest value have postponed their ticket sales for this years event which were scheduled to begin on april 8th. Organizers investigate how the pandemic might effect the annual gathering in the in evidence desert that attracts tens of thousands of people. San Francisco Mayor london breed spoke first announcing the order will be extended to may 1st. More details are coming later. And later today governor gavin newsom will tell us about a new initiative for helping older californians to stay connected as they shelter in place. With 70 7,400. San franciscos mayor breed says more people did a better job of social distancing compared to the weekend before with fewer groups of people gathering at parks and beaches. Counties working together can have more effective shelterin place orders than just having each county with their own rules. Happening today, the San Mateo County event center is being converted turned into a new Emergency Hospital preparing for a surge of coronavirus patients. Good morning, dave. 250 beds are being set up at the Field Hospital at the San Mateo County event center just in case. No patients are staying there yet, but if there is a medical surge, the countys hospitals will fill up quickly. This emergency facility will help take in patients. County and state officials with the help of the National Guard have been setting up the space since sunday. Once the Field Hospital is finished, the National Guard will leave and it will be run together by the state and county. San mateo county has the third highest coronavirus positive case count in the bay area behind santa clara and San Francisco counties. Grass of 8 00 a. M. Yesterday, the Health Department reports 309 cases and 6 deaths. In an Online Meeting peninsula lawmakers talked about the federal response to this pandemic in San Mateo County and how the county will rebuild after this is all over. San mateo county is so very crucial to our regions and states economy. And to that end, the state of california stands really to assist and get our economy up and running again and help displaced workers and their families survive and ultimately thrive again. The county is asking for donations to help support the event center. If you take a look at your screen, youll see whats needed. Unused n905 masks. Unopened packages and disposable gloves. Today at noon, the governor will help give us details of the program to help older californians stay connected while also sheltering in place. Now about a quarter of the people whove tested positive in california are 65 years old or older. The hospital vaegs rates are a lot higher among Senior Citizens. And Governor Newsoms also working with facebook to combat the coronavirus. The governor appeared on a live chat yesterday. Hes with Facebook Ceo Mark Zuckerberg and dr. Priscilla chan his wife. Weve got to get to the end point and that will be determined on real data once real testing goes into place. That will give us the assessment to say all right for all nonessential travel maybe we can make some adjustments. Now, one Facebook User during this conversation asked why california doesnt completely shut down. The governor said that would be a logistical nightmare. For example, california farm workers provide food not just for the state but food for the entire nation. Well, two employees of Grocery Stores in san jose have tested positive for the coronavirus. According to the mercury news, a worker at the Safeway Store on branum lane is receiving medical treatment after testing positive and an employee of the cardenas market on south white road in east san jose. They will remain open but they have undergone enhanced cleaning. Students returning to stanford who traveled for spring break now must self quarantine. Anyone who lives on the stanford campus has to first selfquarantine for 14 days. This order is also for students who plan to go into any campus building or office. Now, selfquarantine students have to have a space with an individual bathroom and they must avoid areas where other students can gather. And happened today, ac transit is running on a modified schedule after a sharp decline in ridership. Transit Officials Say the new schedule will be similar to its regular sunday service. Most of the weekday only service will not operate at all, but it will operate its allnighter service on an hourly basis. All passengers are being asked to enter through the rear doors. No fares are being collected. Time is now 6 38. Today, the Alameda County board of supervisors will debate whether to give the Sheriffs Department an extra 85 million in funding. That money would pay for extra deputies along with Health Service employees at the santa rita jail in dublin. The jail is understaffed and underfunded. But critics say that money would be better spent elsewhere during the coronavirus crisis. And the coronavirus outbreak is demanding the retrial of derek al mena. His second trial on Involuntary Manslaughter charges was due to begin in april, but the judge is pushing the start date back until july 6th. The judge turned down the request from almenas lawyer to free him from bail. Hes suffering and is not a flight risk. In the ghost ship warehouse fire, 36 people were killed in that warehouse fire in 2016. Time is 6 39. The coronavirus has drastically changed court cases around california. The state Judicial Council adopted emergency rules. It results in people staying in jail longer as they wait to go to court. For example, Court Arraignments are now within seven days. Not two days after an arrest. And instead of ten days for preliminary hearing, now it is 30 days. Alameda county public defender er er brendan woods says his clients are suffering. Now, those changes will stay in effect for 90 days after the end of the emergency. Were going to check back in with steve again. Its so nice to hear steve. And unfortunately the number of coronavirus cases around the world is continuing to rise. Johns Hopkins University reports the total number of confirmed cases is now more than 788,000. The u. S. Has more than 164,000 cases and 3,100 deaths. Italy has at least more than 100,000 cases but has the most deaths at 100,000 cases. Experts say strict measures to combat the coronavirus pandemic may be paying off though. Health Officials Say italy and spain should soon be stabilizing. France has now become the fourth country to surpass 3,400 deaths. Major cities already having orders in place have some people heading to their Country Homes in hopes of avoiding the virus. Translator theres no need to panic. Were not panicking. Were just minimizing the likelihood of getting infected in a mathematical way. To get down in the numbers requires not just stabilize, it will be pushed down. And thats what we need countries to focus on. Now, in china, the Manufacturing Industry is picking up as the country gradually returns to normal. Authorities are now focusing their prevention efforts on asymptomatic patients and sending other countries medical equipment to help fight the pandemic. Japans smoking ban takes Effect Tomorrow. Tobacco products will take Effect Tomorrow inside restaurants and bars tomorrow. Smaller establishments can still allow smoking and larger businesses can allow smoking in smoking dedicated rooms where food and drinks were not being served. The law was partially aimed at rescheduling the olympics because of the coronavirus. The fda could give ecigarette companies approval, an extension on applications. Vape companies have been given a may 12th deadline to submit their products for review or take them off the market. Now the fda is asking courts to extended deadline to september 9th saying they just dont have the Resources Available to evaluate those product its while theyre focused on the coronavirus. Happening today, President Trump is about to issue the final ruling rolling back fuel efficiency standards that were set up during the obama administration. A Spokes Person for the epa says this will benefit the economy and also make cars more affordable. But it also weakens the mileage standard that was intended to encourage car makers to build more fuel efficient cars and electric cars to fight climate change. Time is 6 49. The wall street journal says the Justice Department is investigating whether some u. S. Senators sold shares of stock before the recent market dropped based on confidential briefings they received about the coronavirus. The wall street journal says the fbi has contracted senator richard burr who sold shares of Companies Worth as much as 1. 7 1. 7000000. He based that decision to sell on public information. And california senator Diane Feinstein sold stock before the market dropped. Her assets are separate from her husbands. San franciscobased gap is putting 80,000 workers on furlough while its stores in north america and europe are all closed. Gap, old navy and Banana Republic stores were all shut down on march 18th. But now with the coronavirus continuing to spread, thats not going to happen. Gap is also laying off some of its staff. Furloughed employees will still be eligible for unemployment benefits. San francisco based airbnb says it will pay hosts for a quarter of a billion dollars for cancelled reservations. Airbnb will pay hosts 205 of what they normally would have received through its own cancellation policies. Check in dates between march 14th march 14th and may 31st. San franciscos west portal neighborhood is one example where people are asking, who needs help . A Hardware Store has become the nerve center where people collect necessary items. And a Group Calling itself resilient west portal started with just a couple of dozen members. On monday, they collected and boxed up more than 200 donated n95 masks as well as safety goggles and took them to kaiser hospital, San Francisco. They are an essential part of the community. I see a lot of people coming in to buy supplies to make personal protective equipment for hospitals. And theyre donating their time and their money, and its kind of overwhelming. The group now has more than 100 volunteers working to help Community Members get the food and medicines they need delivered right to their doors. They mostly focus on older people and people who dont have internet or Cell Phone Service and might not otherwise be able to get what they need. It is now 6 57. People everywhere are showing appreciation for the people involved in the battle against the pandemic. And last night, in San Francisco, something happened. A group of people did a shout out in an event called get loud for heroes. I wasnt kidding they made noise from windows, from porches, balconies, front yards. Organizers set aside two full minutes for clapping, cheering, banging on pots and pans, in an emotional celebration of healthcare workers and first responders. As awful as this is, the fact that we can have a sense of community as we live day by day hoping to get through this pandemic, its i guess its overwhelming gratitude, is what i call it. The united educators of San Francisco organized the event last night. They are hoping this will become a nightly ritual. It is now just about 6 59. A bay area woman has now started an all hands on deck effort to make desperately needed surgical masks for medical workers and others. Her name is karen bradley. She found a simple pattern on youtube, then put the project on her facebook page. I got a lot of likes. I got a lot of comments. I got a lot of people asking for the pattern. I think that people need to help each other. She says anyone who can sew can turn out dozens of masks a day if they work at it.
