Reporter so when she went to kaiser to get her 90 day supply of hydroxychloroquine and heard this we can only give you enough for 14 days. My biggest concern is not being able to obtain the medication, especially in the future, and going into a bad flair that would potentially hospitalize me. Reporter hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine are two medications being edpotentially for the coronavirus causing a global shortage. That means people like leah arent getting their normal supply. Well, is it going to be guaranteed its in stock . What happens if its not . They said we cant guarantee anything. We dont know whats going to happen, but were trying to prevent a shortage. Reporter in a statement a kaiser spokesperson says, if we dont take steps to mitigate the shortage, we all will face the real possibility of running out of these drugs in the next few weeks. While kaiser says theyre contacting patients trying to convert them to alternative medication, leah says her frustration comes from not getting a heads up. There was no notices from kaiser saying this is what could potentially happen. Reporter kaiser expects drug manufacturers to ramp up production in the next few weeks. In the meantime theyre taking steps to insure we have adequate supply to meet the existing needs of patients who are taking these medications and also access for severely sick patients hospitalized with covid19 infection. For leah the anxiety of the unknown doesnt take away for her compassion for those struggling. My heart goes out to anyone who takes this medication, especially lupus patients, anyone who depends on it and i just hope that they can come up with a solution soon.
