Parttimes would go down for a Single Person who made more than 75,000 last year until it completely phases out at zero at 99,000. Now, with custom, those making 198,000 would not qualify at all. Businesses are also hoping for some relief. In downtown walnut creek, the yacht club changed its menus to soups. The owners had to lay off 45 people. Coowners of wineburg gave those employees care packages with food and their final check. Everything we hadnt given away to our staff, we cooked all the fish. We took all the parishables. Many bay area communities are protecting renters facing economic hardships. Courts in San Francisco, alameda, contra costa, and santa clara counties are delaying eviction hearings. Sheriffs offices in alameda and San Francisco say they will postpone carrying out evictions. Governor newsom issued an executive order allowing local governments to stop evictions and San Franciscos already laid out its rent moratorium guidelines. The family of a south bay grandmother who died from the coronavirus is warning everybody about how dangerous the virus is. Family of 65yea Arcelia Martinez said she was a devoted mother, wife, loved her job at food max and, yes, she was a grandmother. Many economists and government leaders pretty much everyone expected the numbers to be bad but its still a shock. 3. 3 americans filed unemployment claims just last week. That is quadruple the previous record set in the u. S. Back in 1982. Now the Economic Impact of the Coronavirus Crisis is reverberating across the nation. The stay at home orders and limitation on Group Gatherings in most 50 states and also fears about spreading the virus. Keeping people at home. Hundreds and thousands of businesses have been forced to close. Millions of workers have lost their jobs in the service industry. And even before the National Numbers were released this morning, governor gavin newsom warned that the jobless numbers would be particularly dyer in our state. He says as many as 1 million californians filed for unemployment claims since march march 13th. The governor said the stimulus package will provide help for some. And, as we all know now, the state of california will provide insurance for up to 450 a week for people and in addition to that, the federal the governor and other political leaders say more needs to be done in the days ahead to help those struggling financially. Just last month, the Unemployment Rate in the u. S. Was actually at a 50year low. 3. 5 . Now, after all this, economists estimate the Unemployment Rate could spike to 13 or more by may and by the end of this quarter in june, the economy could contract as much as 30 . Live in oakland, loimdz, ktvu fox 2 news. Time is 6 34. The u. S. Has passed a 2. 2 trillion stimulus package. Now that bill goes to the house for a vote. It is the biggest stimulus bill in modern u. S. History providing hundreds of billions of dollars for businesses and direct Cash Payments to american taxpayers. Our expectation is within three weeks, we will have direct payments out where we have depository information. Now, heres some of the details. 350 350 billion in loans will be provided to Small Businesses. It would set up a 500 billion Lending Program for companies. It would give 100 billion 100 billion to hospitals on the front lines and send direct Cash Payments of 1,200 to people who earned up to 75,000 a year. The payments would start to phase out for individuals who earn more than that. 90 of americans are expected to be eligible to get full or  partial payments. Well, a lot of people this morning have questions about those direct payments like, whos eligible in and how will the government find me . Everyone is eligible including people on Social Security. The income levels will be based on your tax filings for 2019. But if you havent filed it yet, then your income level for 2018 would apply. Payments will be made through direct deposit to an account that the person has authorized for tax refunds or federal payments on or after january january 1st, 2018. A notice will be sent out to the persons last known address within 15 days of the payment telling them of the method and the amount of the payment. Pam. Well, concern is rising in louisiana where the number of coronavirus cases is increasing rapidly. Louisiana governor John Bell Edwards says Current Trends will overwhelm hospitals in new orleans by early april. President trump has approved the governors plea for federal disaster declaration. One possibility for the cause of those high numbers, the mardi gras celebration in late february. I happen to believe with people coming from all over the country and all over the world into new orleans, theres a fair amount of coronavirus was seeded in that area. Sending additional ambulance teams to new orleans where more than half of ems employees have been exposed to the virus and the National Guard is running several drive thru test sites. Nationwide, the u. S. Now has more than 69,000 confirmed cases of the coronavirus. Thats according to Johns Hopkins university. Topping the list with almost half the cases in the country is new york at 33,000. Thats followed by nearby new jersey, then, california, the state of washington, and, then, michigan. Now, here in the bay area, the health and Human Services department is confirming the deaths of two passengers from that grand princess cruise ship. Both were men in their 60s. One died last saturday, the other on monday. 27 people have died in the bay area. 17 santa clara county, 5 in san mateo county. And theres a somber message from kaiser, a kaiser executive at the Kaiser Permanente hospital in san jose. He did not go into specific numbers but he says half the patients at the hospital are infected from the coronavirus. Kaiser has enforced to boost staffing. The emergency room to try to screen those patients. Scientists at Johns Hopkins University Say the virus is not mutating a lot. The Early Research shows the virus looks the same everywhere. Coming up with a vaccine its crucial just like the flu could be a seasonal infection. What were starting to see now in the Southern Hemisphere in Southern Africa and southern hemispheric countries is were having traces appearing as they go into their winter season. Now, if the coronavirus does turn out to be a seasonal virus, it gives some hope that the number of infections will go down as weather gets warmer but it also suggests it could thrive year round by moving from country to country.
