Lets give the european model a pat on the back, i agree, the european forecast model nailed this as did the icon, it was the first one to pick up on this eight days ago and everyone else online but i really like that forecast model and you know what im talking about. Alejo and santa clara with an inch into thirds, livermore an inch and a half, san jose an inch in the quarter, and santa rosa only one third of an inch. Usually these kinds of systems that is the other way around but not this case right now most of the rain is to the south and the snow continues to go, there have been three or 4 feet totals already and there will be more up until five today a winter storm warning continues. Tahoe donner at 46 and probably more than that but you cannot keep up when it is like this, from tahoe city to mount rose 23 to 21 and it looks like were getting snow around Mount Hamilton and maybe not diablo, and mix in the Santa Cruz Mountains temperatures are cold enough with 30s and 40s in an offshore breeze and a north wind in place. This strong low rotates along the coast and rainfall favors areas around San Francisco and oakland and concord to the south. Thunderstorm activity is possible, santa rosa 38 and san jose 45, 43 at san jose state and pretty good activity lining up around san jose and Santa Clara Valley and in the Santa Cruz Mountains towards arts of Contra Costa County and Santa Clara County. 50s on the peninsula, a cool day today with showers into tuesday and a break wednesday through friday and the next system rolling in sometime over the weekend. Whether typical looking commute. This is what it would look like almost every day this time and it might even be busier than this. This is a look at interstate. This is a look at interstate 880 in oakland and are a lot of people, san mateo bridge traffic moderately heavy, no problems in the south bay, it seems lighter than usual. The european forecast model friday show that which was interesting and i thought is that right . It was right on. We still have snow in the mountains and the winter storm warning goes until five, there has already been three or 4 feet and 5 feet to come in after everything is said and done. Tahoe donner is a leader of the pack so far, some of these im sure you could add numbers to but these are the latest i saw, 46 inches to mount rose 21 and squaw 33. We have snow on Mount Hamilton and im sure there are other locations, diablo reporting is no once everything clears out we get to daylight and we can see it, a north or east wind is in place and the strong low around the coast which could trigger thunderstorm activity north of the golden gate. You get a few breaks in the clouds and that would help in the air is certainly cold enough when you get a little lift that can be primetime for some and we will keep an eye on that. With the s p 500 last week when it dropped 7 of the first level of Circuit Breakers kick in and s p 500 immediately dropped 10 that is close to the Second Circuit breaker which is 13 . Governor gavin newsom once all Senior Citizens over the age of 65 to stay inside and he wants bars and nightclubs to close. Ktvus Elissa Harrington is in walnut creek now and you have the latest on these sweeping guidelines, good morning. Reporter good morning i am on locust street in walnut creek surrounded by different bars and restaurants, this area always busy and very popular places for people to go and take families but lately it has been a ghost town. These businesses already hurting and the new rules in place could hurt them more. We know that sales during the coronavirus pandemic have been down and now some bars will have to close and restaurants limit hours and capacity. The governor call for these new rules after the people who tested positive for covid 19 in california grew to 335 which is a 14 increase from the last count. Six people have died. These are extreme measures but the governor believes it is what needs to happen to keep people safe. He estimates 5. 3 million seniors will be affected. Seniors over the age of 65 and anyone with chronic illness should isolate themselves. We recognize social isolation for millions of californians is anxiety inducing but we recognize what all of the science bears out and what we recognize around the rest of the world is we need to meet this moment had on. Governor newsom call for all bars, nightclubs, wineries and brewpubs in the state be close and stopped short of shutting down restaurants and instead said to social distance patrons that establishments must reduce their capacities to half and he said restaurants should try to focus on a takeout model so people not coming inside and sitting down close to each other and instead taking the food to go i have seen a push on social media people thing now is the time to buy gift cards to your favorite restaurants to keep them afloat during this difficult time but live in walnut creek Elissa Harrington ktvu. The grand princess cruise ship will leave the port of oakland this morning, ktvus allie rasmus is live at the port with more on where the ship is going now and the next big concern. Reporter behind us is the grand princess cruise liner which has been at the port of oaklands outer harbor this past week and is scheduled to leave this spot at eight today but will not go far, it will go right across the bay to dock at the port of San Francisco for at least the next two weeks. After weeks at sea and another week here in oakland there is questions about where all of the trash on board the ship will go. Longshoremen who work at the port of oakland say they are concerned about how and where that possibly contaminated trash will end up and they spoke out over the weekend urging the port of oakland and officials do not transport the trash on the ship to an undisclosed dump here in the bay area by land and they would like it to be based on a barge and sent out to the ocean. There are still people on board the cruise liner, 340 cruise members and six passengers from other countries. They have to get the crew off the ship after properly take the contaminated waste and garbage and put it not on our land but put it on another boat and take it out of the bay area. The longshore workers say they were promised the trash on the ship would be removed by barge out of the bay and were waiting to hear back from them on updates on whether or not the promise was. Officials at the port of oakland have not responded to us with answers to that question but in the meantime representatives from grand princess cruise line that eventually the remaining 340 crewmembers and six foreign passengers will go back to their home countries via chartered flights but they did acknowledge it would be difficult in some cases to find carter flights for all 340 crewmembers on board because of some of the travel restrictions internationally that are in place. Ran princess cruise representatives say some of the crew members will self quarantine on the ship while it docs at the port of San Francisco the next two weeks. But you know honestly i would not go on 80 is it is bad driving. Now lets go to the macarthur maze, traffic will be slow and also the bay bridge toll plaza you will see slow traffic. A lot of people cannot work from home, all kinds of workers including First Responders, people who stop Grocery Store shelves, a lot of people. Youll see a little bit of a normal commute at least at six on these roads like the san mateo bridge. Traffic will be busy and southbound society will be busy going south and in the Silicon Valley, not much going on on the major freeways. Now lets bring steve on. Will focus on heavier amounts of rain and for this time it was a complete reversal what we usually see, it was south and not north kudos, congrats to chris in the hills, san mateo 1 inch and three quarters and livermore almost an inch and a half and the Oakland Hills an inch and one third and other locations did quite well, santa clara, vallejo and kresta valley in san jose, San Francisco. 90 and sfo. 3 quarters and sorry santa rosa it was not your turn. 34. Usually it is the other way around but not this time. Today you make it under some activity with breaks in the clouds for areas north of the golden gate and south of that more steady rain and it is snow and more snow which continues with a winter storm warning until 5 pm today you could probably add for eight on some of these totals, tahoe donner at 46 inches, snow and our hills on the radar, there will be pockets of moderate to heavy rain for some as the logos along the coast and heaviest amounts will be to the south and not so much to the north.
