Warriors are the first nba team to do this without fans in response to the coronavirus. This new order from San Franciscos Public Health department will be in effect for two weeks and can be reauthorized. I want to ask the residents, please, dont panic. Please, listen to the information were providing. And, please, continue to work with us so that we can rise to the occasion and meet the challenges we know all exist in our city. This is about protecting Public Health. We are prepared to address this and we want to make sure that the information we provide is being taken seriously and is being used appropriately. Public schools in the city will remain open, but district Officials SaySchool Sporting events and other activities that bring large groups of students and adults together are being cancelled. Mayor london breed issued a statement in part, quote, we know this will be a disruption. she goes on, i spoke with the warriors to discuss the steps we are taking and theyre in support of our efforts. For their part, the giants also announced they will not play their up caming exhibition games at oracle park. Theyre now scheduled next home game is the home opener. Thats april 3rd. All right. We have Team Coverage for you all across the bay area. Lets start with tom vacar. Reporter well the hope is they will be able to get everybody off, all the passengers off, not the crew z by tonight. Thats maybe Wishful Thinking because its a process they have to go through to check and check them and recheck them before theyre assigned to a bus to go off to parts where theyre going to be quarantined. But, that is the situation right now. Also what happens is once everybodys cleared off of there the process of disembarking this ship away with its crew will begin. As you see from sky fox, the ship is down there still in the process of doing what it has to do to get the passengers off the ship. And, as we heard earlier this morning, there may be as many as a thousand passengers on board and it may take awhile to off load them. Again, the crew will stay on the boat and the boat will leave going to parts unknown. I suspect the Cruise Ship Company will tell us where theyre going and when they should be there. But the reality of the situation is that the governor wants this ship out of here as soon as its offloaded because that was part of the deal he made with the city of oakland and part of the deal that he made with the oes and with the cdc and fema. One of the things i i must say in all of the time we spent here, the security here has been spectacular both on the water and in the entrance of this place. Police officers and guards in order to get to this particular position that we are today. If you have no business here, you have no right to be here and you will be shoot out under penalty of arrest. Well be back at 12 30 to talk more about whats going on here today. But thats the situation from here for right now. All right. Tom vacar there at the port of oakland. Thank you. Three workers at International Airport have tested positive for the coronavirus. Allie rasmus is live with what she knows. Reporter i just got off the phone with the local Union Representative who represents san jose maneta airport. Those three workers here at san jose airport had been working the night shift and they were working in term bawl b. This was the terminal that services all southwest and sclaz airlines flights. And he confirmed 42 other tsa agents who worked at san jose airport who may have come in contact with these three workers are now on paid administrative leave. Theyre not coming to work. We dont know how long the three tsa agents were sick before they were tested. But we do know those tests came in on monday night and, at that time, they turned up positive for coronavirus covid19 the cdc amend in and sanitized that terminal. They do not know how many travelers or agents these three agents have come in contact with. Not surprised he said because he says, there are millions of people who come through san jose airport on a yearly basis and the tsa agents obviously have contact with thm. He did say that one of the three infected tsa agents here at san manetta has now been off work for 15 days. So that person, that agent was sick for awhile before those test results came in on monday night. These three infected ts 5678d agents working in terminal b. They worked in evening shift. They do not know how many passengers may have come in contact with these three, but the other figure that stood out to me is that now 42 other tsa agents who work at san monetta work with these three are now on paid administrative leave. He did not think that any of those 42 coworkers are experiencing any symptoms. So its a quarantine situation, selfquarantine situation for those 42 other workers. Obviously having a big impact on people who worked at san jose manetta airport. Happening now, registered nurses from several different hospitals protesting the cdcs response to the coronavirus. Rallies are taking place across the bay area and across the country really. These nurses are staging a national day of action demanding better protection for nurses, patients, and the general public. Theyre calling out state and federal regulations and policies for patients with the coronavirus. Also the roll back of personal protective equipment standards from m95 reps res pir ratetors to simple surgical masks. Taking a look at the market right now. The dow jones is just plummeting. And for another assault with a woman at his apartment in 2006. He faced a maximum sentence of 29 years in prison. Remember, he got 23. Weinsteins lawyer spoke to reporters earlier this morning and called the sentence obscene. Of course its too harsh. Harvey feels terrible, of course, he does. This is not an easy day. We hope that this sentence will speak to the court in a way that this will show this has been unfair from the very beginning and heres just one more thing we can add to the list of things that did not show fair, just, and imparish trial. Both women weinstein was convicted of assaulting in court will speak today. The sanity phase in the trial against John Lee Cowell is today after he was convicted of the murder of nia wilson at an oakland bart station. My heart was fluttering, stomach was shaking. I was trying to eat. I couldnt eat no more. We got here and i thanked the good lord for as many blessings. Its shocking that the verdict came in so quick. I was on my way home and i got the phone call at 4 18 saying to come back here, the verdict is in. Also tracking a few clouds and showers. Well let you know if the shower threat has moved out of town and some big changes that will move in by the weekend. Taking a live look here at the grand princess cruise ship still in the port of oakland. The passengers expected to get off the ship. The passengers spent ten days at sea followed by a week of frustration and fear after being quarantined on their cruise ship. A thousand people have already come off the ship taken to military bases and other quarantine sites here in california as well as texas and georgia as a process of getting everyone off the ship can get off the ship continues. Well stay on top of it live for you thanks to sky fox. The mayor just wrapped up a News Conference. Ktvus kristen kafton. The Health Experts say that they know they have covid19 within the city of San Francisco. The district saying that decision was made in consultation with medical experts and School Experts say they maintain that decision if they have to. The mayor of san franci addressed that very issue. Experts do not recommend broad Public School closures as schools are essential service with multiple Community Benefits and children have not been shown to be a highrisk group for serious illness at this time. Reporter now, the school board and the city leaders also explaining their rationale behind this decision saying that to their estimation schools are essential. That includes participants of more than one thousand people. If those families are concerned, if they do have students in San Francisco unified school they simply need to let the school know they will be keeping their child home. Theyre going to be working to protect vulnerable Staff Members. Theyve talked about the vulnerable populations. That includes people with any kind of medical condition. Theyre going to continue to working with Staff Members who fall into some of those more vulnerable populations. The school board and Health Officials also emphasizing data they say shows although covid 19 can be dangerous they say as of now, there are zero cases reported out of china where anyone between the ages of zero nine died as a result. Theyre saying that is an indication that children dont seem to be in essentially vulnerable populations. Thats one of the reasons why they calculate it into their decision to keep the schools open. Its going to look at closing individual schools if somebody does test positive at that school, that remains an option. The district is saying that they know it is a matter of if or when rather not if a student or staff member tests positive. So theyre saying theyre working on remote options theyre looking at options for closing individual schools. So theyre really trying to keep as many options on the table as possible. Now, mike, you also talked a moment ago about San Franciscos decision to cancel largescale events. Following News Conference about San Francisco schools, the mayor and the director of Public Health stayed at the podium to address that issue and they said that that decision was made following the fact that they said that theyve made some recommendations. They said that the Golden State Warriors among others hadnt followed those earlier recommendations and so thats why they felt they had to get this order to make sure they could have some weight behind it. They said they did have discussions with the Golden State Warriors. Some of them from the Warriors Front Office did come here to city hall and met with the mayor today. The mayor said that the warriors were on board with that. So the latest that were hearing is that the warriors may continue with their schedule and it may be similar to those scenes we saw out of italy a couple of weeks ago when we saw games being performed in front of empty stadiums. It may be a similar situation at chase center where the games may be played and there may simply not be fans in the stands. Were looking for more clarity on that. Were going to reach out to the warriors to get more information from them about how they plan on proceeding in light of this new order from leaders in San Francisco. Seems a little interesting. Any given day on a high school campus, the student body population is probably around a thousand people. I guess well just have to wait and see and hope for the safety of everyone there. Reporter thats right. Thats one of the issues that we brought up is that there are schools that have a population of more than one thousand students and if the order is trying to stop events of more than a thousand people whats the justification . City leaders said at this time, it appears that San Francisco schools are an essential function. Part of what they touched on was the fact that you might have people who work in San Francisco in critical industries, critical to trying to contain the spread of coronavirus through the city and that if those parents have their kid out of school, those parents are then going to have to stay home with those students and theyre not going to be out performing those critical functions for the city. And keep in mind also the economic function and factor in all of this. That if you shut down San Francisco schools, youre going to have a huge part of the work force in San Francisco simply h their children. A lot of factors and a lot of moving parts. All right. Thank you for that. I want to take us right now with a News Conference under way with the warriors organization. Lets listen in here. We dont know how its going to end and, you know, well probably know as soon as we know. Know. Yeah, you know, this is brand new stuff for everybody. Make sure everybody here is listening and watching. But weve been taught since we were young and rightly so that health is First Priority in life. And thats what we mentioned to our players. They have families, parents, kids, and understood whats going on here and its bigger than the warriors. Its a serious situation, and, so, theres a lot of different opinions on what should be done, what could be done, but i think we will all agree its better to be safe than sorry. So were choosing that course along with the city. Theyre doing a tremendous job trying to figure all this out. It hasnt been easy because the ground is shifting under our feet. I expect them to continue to have that. But as far as the response of our coaching staff, our players, it was somber. This is not something i imagine any of you have ever done or will have to do. Theyre professionals. Theyre human beings. Well be okay. We feel for the workers, mostly, fellow income wage earners that count on working our games. Because youre that empathy have it for them, have it for us. We play basketball. You know, its a big business, but were just playing basketball. Theres a lot more important things going on out there. So i like that we have good leadership in honor to joan peter, steve kerr and some great leaders we have to lead our players. But this is a hard its a sobering moment to enter into this kind of unknown. And were just like you guys. Well do the best we can when information becomes more available. I want to follow up on that. I think really we have 1,500 employees who have their jobs because of chase center and the events that we have here and, for me, this is the hardest part because we do have a number of those who live paycheck to paycheck who this is going to impact a lot more of an impact than players and me and i dont want that to get lost in the conversation about what Something Like this means in terms of its impact on the city because it goes way beyond the core business of playing basketball games for sure. If youve got a question, raise your hand and well bring you a microphone. San francisco officials certainly made it known publicly that they were looking for this maybe even a little earlier. Was there discussion . Was that opinion made known to you that San Francisco officials wanted last nights game or even saturdays game to fall under this . You know, we were given a heads up on the citys directive before it happened id say probably in communications with the Mayors Office night and day. We implemented cdc guidelines before that declaration by the city. And we did not do our best based on best advice to suggest that anyone was taken at risk. Every day is changing. Circumstances change every day and i feel the circumstances have changed and what i want to stress to the mayor today was just that were in this together. Were all in this together and were going to do whatever we can to cooperate and to do responsible things. You know, we felt there was a Tipping Point and were at that Tipping Point. And whether or not this is the right course of action, the wrong course of action, somebody will come back a year from now and decide whether the citizens remained were smart and hopefully were doing the right thing. How on the table is cancelling the game all together okay. All right. Youre listening in to a News Conference with the Golden State Warriors. Thats the gm and bob mieers saying its a bit of a somber mood there. A little somber himself. They feel for all the employees. The parttime employees. 1,500 of them live paycheck by paycheck but in the end they say its better to be safe than sorry. The warrior will play the game tomorrow against the nets but will do so without fans inside. This is brand new stuff. Were all trying to figure this out in his own words. This has been a Southern California deal with this storm system here. For us, today, partly cloudy skies. A warm pattern and then, that warm pattern will stick around thursday into friday. And, as you can see, theres a storm developing up here. Were talking about rain returning this weekend especially by sunday and a significant drop off in the numbers. Today we had some 70s. By sunday were just thinking mid to upper 50s. That will be a sharp droppoff into the weekend and this will be a real winter storm moving into the bay area and out over the sierra. Here we go, tomorrow we could have some patchy fog near the coast and near portions of the bay. And partly cloudy skies by the afternoon. Take a look at these warm numbers. Upper 60s to the lower 70s this afternoon. It will still feel a bit humid and muggy out there. And this warm weather pattern continues on your thursday. We could have some patchy fog for the morning hours. Chance of showers by saturday should not be a big deal but more persistent rainfall expected by sunday. It can be reauthorized and therefore extended. This morning mayor london breed says shes asking residents not to panic. Across the bay to the port of oakland we go. A live picture of the grand princess cruise ship and two tents where people have been pulled off and taken to test for the coronavirus. The ship docked at the port 45 hours ago. Passengers have been slowly disembarking. Those passengers will all be quarantined for two weeks at various military bases as well as a few hotels. Ktvus tom vacar is there live. Were seeing some activity today, tom. Reporter seeing a lot of people and a lot of activity. You have to remember one thing above all else, this area across the harbor here has been, remains, and will continue to be a Quarantine Zone until this ships out of here. Reporter as long as the grand princess is birthed here at the port of oakland, this is a Quarantine Zone. Thats because more than 1,100 crew members an unknown number coming down with covidc. Officials would like to have the remaining thousand or so passengers off the boat by the end of the day. But the possibility still exists that tomorrow is still in the works. In the meantime, the oakland police, the coast guard and fema have coordinated their efforts to keep anyone and everyone including the media out of the immediate hot zone right adjacent to the ship itself. A number of small boats coming for a look see have been intercepted and escorted out of the area under penalty of arrest. The ship itself will have to be thoroughly cleaned, sanitized and disinfected perhaps as no other ship has ever been after the crew is off boarded wherever it goes. Whether the grand princess will remain in service or where it will remain in service or even what its name will be are all open questions for a company and a cruise industry reeling from customer cancellations, a smaller schedule, fewer ports to call, and a stigma that will be a long time in going away. Reporter and, so, we will remain here no matter how long it takes to find out when the last person is off and well be here when the ship finally decides to disembark at the orders of fema, the state of california and a lot of other folks that just want to see it go at this point in time. You know, tom, over the last couple of weeks seeing that ship behind you especially travel business, cruise ships, airline industries, stocks right now for a lot of airlines is down. The stock market itself is down just taking a hit. It could be awhile before we start to see it rebound when it comes to those industries. Reporter you bet. The market in general, yesterday on hopes that what the president said might be done about making money available to Small Businesses and making sure people dont make paychecks, we got a boost of a thousand points. The market is always looking to the future, and if if it doesnt see concrete evidence it goes back to what it always does is anticipating the future and what its saying is its not buying anything that the president and his team is saying and when you bring up the word pandemic then what you have is a situation where fear is going to rule investments and people are going to seek safe harbors such as u. S. Treasuries paying as little as theyve ever paid but theyre at least not going to go down in value. Thats the situation with the stock market. Unless they really start getting a handle on this or at the very least Start Talking like the scientists are talking to make sure everybodys on the same page. Taking a live look at the grand princess cruise ship still docked at the port of oakland. The slow methodical prose of getting those on the ship who need to come off is still under way. Here we are more than two days after the grand princess arrived in oakland. All but some one thousand people will be eventually taken off and all those on the ship due to the coronavirus will continue to be there. Land and be there. Lets hear sfr ktvus sara zendehnam. Their goal is to get the last one thousand passengers off the grand princess cruise ship by the end of the day. At about 8 30 this morning, charter buses rolleded up to the port of oakland. Of the one thousand people who got off the ship yesterday, 600 went to Travis Air Force base. About 100 took a chartered flight to Lackland Air Force base in texas. 130 took a chartered flight to the u. K. And three people were taken via ambulance to the hospital for non coronavirus related issues. Yesterday, passengers were called to be taken off the ship by color coded groups. At this time, we are announcing for luggage tag cruiseline said passengers and 1,100 passengers are still on board. Two women on board who have been documenting their trip on youtube say theyre trying their hardest to stay positive. Were trying really hard and its not that were pretending to be up beat. We really are because if were not were going to go to some place we do not want to go. Reporter Officials Say up to 24 passengers are taken to a cluster of buildings in Pacific Grove. The passengers are said to have mild symptoms that dont require going to the hospital, but, because of that, they cant go to Travis Air Force base. Theyll stay at Pacific Grove away from the public and continue to be tested. So far none of them have tested positive for the coronavirus. 11,100 crew members are still on board. Theyll be taken to their own location for their own location. 19 passengers who tested positive for the coronavirus are still on the ship in isolation. The goal is to get the rest of those passengers off the cruise ship for by end of the day. We asked when the ship will set sail once all passengers are off the ship and cal oes could not give us an answer. At the port of oakland, sara zendehnam, ktvu fox 2 news.
