New this morning, chp says a big rig driver was not paying attention when he drifted off of the freeway in vallejo and caused a train reaction crash involving half a dozen cars. This is what it was like this before 2 30 this morning when the first call came in. Chp says a semi truck driver veered off of westbound 80, went through a fence, and onto a side street. There was a loud noise in the ground started shaking. I thought there was an earthquake for a second. Afterwards, i heard tires screeching. No one was hurt. Chp says there is no indication of drunk driving. Lets go ahead and give you a live look at the grand princess cruise ship as it is docked at the port of oakland this morning, after spending extra days at sea due to coronavirus concerns. A live look here from sky fox, the ship sailed under the Golden Gate Bridge late yesterday morning and arrived at the port of oakland at noon. It has some 21 coronavirus patients on board, most of them are crewmembers. The process of removing all of the passengers is a long one and is expected to take two more days. We will bring in allie, you are at the port of oakland. Reporter i had a chance to speak to a woman who is stuck on board the ship behind me. She is from fremont. She has been on this ship for 17 days. She says she feels like she and everyone on this ship is in limbo. The ship is at the port of oakland out of harbor. Thousands of passengers on board are not sure about the plan today to get everyone off of this ship. Some of the passengers here have had their breakfast dropped off outside of their doors. Anyone is confined to their cabin. They get meals delivered to them. At least a couple hundred people got off of this ship yesterday. A canadian member of parliament tweeted out yesterday that his parents and 230 other canadians were taken off of the grand princess yesterday. Everyone else is still on board. We were told around 8 30, they are supposed to get more specific instructions about how they get to leave and how that process will work. The woman we spoke to, the passenger on this ship, she is on the cruise with a friend and they have been stuck here for 17 days. Other people in her hallway were sick enough to be able to leave this ship after it docked yesterday. There is a lady across the way. She left yesterday. We really dont have any contact with anybody. We dont know where we are going or what will happen. Reporter the passengers who were the most sick got off of the ship first yesterday. They were transported to various undisclosed hospitals in the bay area. A total of 21 people tested positive for the coronavirus on board the grand princess, some other passengers and crew members have shown symptoms of being ill. We are told eventually everyone will be tested on the ship. There is about 3500 people on board the ship, 1000 crewmembers and 2000 passengers. Everyone is supposed to the tested. We are not sure how that process and timelines will work. Californians will either be transported to Travers Air Force base, or marine corps miramar in san diego. Regardless of whether they are showing any symptoms or signs of illness, all of the people getting off of the ship will be in quarantine as those at those military facilities across the country for the next 14 days. Time is 7 05. 150 passengers from the cruise ship are quarantined right now at Travers Air Force base. Two buses and a van arrived at the military base just after 8 00 last night. You can see through the windows, the driver and several passengers wearing protective masks. Some people who live near Travers Air Force base were not happy to see the passengers arrive. They need to stay on the bus. It is a city within itself there as it is, i have been on the ships. They can get medical people on board. Those passengers are not showing any signs of infection and will be closely watched over the next two weeks. Ucsf Medical Center and other hospitals are preparing for many more coronavirus patients in the coming days and weeks. Ucsf set up to arched hints and at its hospital to treat people with symptoms. The first coronavirus death in the south bay, a woman in her 60s, now forcing Santa Clara County to take drastic safety precautions. The woman who died had other medical problems. She was the first person diagnosed with the coronavirus who had no link to International Travel or contact with an infected person. Santa clara county is now banning Mass Gatherings, trying to stop the coronavirus from spreading. Reporter the sap center as you can imagine, has a full calendar for the month of march. A lot of events are already being postponed. That is because Santa Clara Countys Public Health officer issued a mandatory order to ban events with 1000 people or more. It goes into effect at midnight tomorrow, and last three weeks, while Health Officials learn more about the coronavirus, and widespread testing becomes available. The sap center is following the guidelines. Motivational speaker tony robbins postponed for events this weekend and there are no other events scheduled until march 17. The center will look at event coming up at the end of the month including a shark game, and mark anthony concert, and cirque du soleil. It is possible the sharks could have games without fans. They support the countys decision to Mass Gatherings. Santa Clara University canceled all face to face classes and meetings until april 13 and will teach online. Large events on campus are canceled until april 19. The ban is a major move to stop the spread of the coronavirus. It is a crime to go against it. Under state law and under the county ordinance code, this order is legally enforceable by the sheriff and by all of the Police Departments in the county. It is a crime to disobey an order of the county health officer. Reporter there are 43 confirmed cases of the virus in Santa Clara County, and one death. On monday, they reported five new cases, bringing the total number in San Francisco to 13. The city says these additional cases are a further indication of community spread. San francisco says it will spend 5 million to protect the citys Homeless Population from contracting or spreading the coronavirus. Part of that money will go to deep cleaning shelters, Resource Centers, and Single Room Occupancy Hotels in the city. That is making it easier on the drive to work. There are some slowdowns. There is a crash near 87, that is causing slow traffic. If that was not there, it would probably be lighter than usual on this freeway as well. The other two freeways are easier. You can see traffic on 237 at 880, just a little slow down there. The east bay commute has a lot more people. We do have more drivers and we also have fewer people taking part. That could be correlated, i dont know if it is a causation a link. Northbound 101 coming up two tiburon, there is a crash involving several vehicles and injuries there. Traffic will be slow at the bay bridge. Many local College Administrators say they think it is a matter of time before a professor or student is infected. A little bit stressful because there are midterms. Now i am not sure what will happen with all of that. The online classes will take place for the next few weeks. The university will decide what to do next after spring break. The coronavirus has made many people change their routine, like working from home or not taking public transportation. In oakland, barred passengers say they have seen a drop in the number of riders. Part itself says ridership was down 8 last week compared to the week before. While some passengers say they are taking precautions, others say there is no reason to start riding barred. They will be quarantined here on the ship and out in the middle of the ocean. They have to leave the port. We have been told that everyone on board the ship will ultimately be tested. Californians on board the ship will either be transported to Travers Air Force base or marine corps miramar near san diego, for the next 14 days, to be an observation under quarantine. Passengers from out of state will go to Lackland Air Force base in texas or devils air force base in georgia. As you heard that last passenger reference in the interview, there are 1000 crewmembers on the ship, they have to remain in quarantine on the ship. The ship will go back out to sea, even after the 2000 or so passengers get off the ship. 150 passengers from the cruise ship are quarantined right now at Travers Air Force base.
