In the south bay, a woman being cared for at a hospital has died from the coronavirus. She is the first death in the bay area. Santa clara county is banning events of more than a thousand people under a legally binding order. The ban starts on wednesday and would include San Jose Sharks game. On wall street the dow plummeted more than 2,000 points today as oil prices crashed. The largest one day point drop ever and the grand princess cruise ship allowed to sale into the bay today. And today passengers arrived at Travis Air Force base. We have the latest developments. Our coverage begins at the port of oakland with ktvus tom vacar monitoring the grand princess cruise ship since it arrived. Tom . Reporter consider this, for four days now, since Vice President mike pence said there was coronavirus on this ship, it has been the focal point of the virus situation and News Coverage worldwide and today the ship finally made land. This is how the day went. The grand princess cruise ship passed under the Golden Gate Bridge midmorning. A half hour later it pass under the San Francisco oakland bay bridge headed to the port of oakland. For some passengers the trip to landfall was a happy change from cruising to nowhere. All along the water in the port there were many onlookers. One man even held out a welcome back sign. Ambulances were made ready for those already sick from the virus. Before 2 30 p. M. Two people walked off the ship, one put on a gurney into the ambulance and the other person road in the front. They were taken to the hospital. And just after 4 00 p. M. Another person was taken by ambulance to a hospital. Then just before 4 30 p. M. Passengers began to disembark. They waited in line. Some who tested positive boarded buses. Some of the buses made their way to Oakland Airport where passengers from canada boarded a jet destnenned to a Canadian Military base where they will be quarantined. Americans will be sent to quarantine facilities at Travis Air Force base in fairfield, near san diego, in san antonio, or other places. The crew will remain quarantined on board. With local, national and International Media watching, the ships closest neighbors, port truckers who park very close, are concerned. Right now we just need to get information. A lot of people are just wanting to understand whats happening. And we just havent gotten anything but it is dangerously close to us. A few hundred yards from where the ship is docking. There is a lot of truckers. Reporter tonight the ship is at rest. The rescue crews and emergency crews are not working. The buses and the ambulances are not here. Reporter julie, two buses and a van about 150 people total. This isnt where they expected to end their vacations but it is finally a night on dry land. Through the windows of the buses you can see the drivers and passengers wearing protective masks as they pull into Travis Air Force base in fairfield. This will be home for the next two weeks. The hotel and apartments fenced off as a quarantine site from the previous two waves of coronavirus evacuees to come back. We are travis people. They have to be taken care of. Reporter reactions are mixed. Something is bound to happen. Reporter there is concern that despite cdc protocols, Travis Air Force base is pushing its luck taking on hundreds more people, potentially infected. They need to stay on the bus. It is a city within itself there. They could get medical people on board. Reporter it was exactly one week ago buses were pulling out of Travis Air Force base, carrying quarantine passengers from a different ship. Finally cleared to resume their live. Like them, passengers arriving now, taken to the air base or elsewhere, are not showing sign of infection. They will beaumonted. Temperatures taken twice daily and if symptoms develop, transferred to a hospital. How good is the quarantine . If it is getting around still. Reporter those uneasy about Travis Air Force base coming to the rescue again. The county has six cases of coronavirus. Community acquired but officials have not linked them to activities at Travis Air Force base. Germs are spread in all types of ways. They cant say that. They can say whatever to make us feel better. But i dont believe it. Reporter they had to endure long flights to get to california bases. Those arriving now had it easier coming straight off the water. If it was my family or friends on that ship, i would want them over here. The hotel offers more space and the knowledge they are that much closer to home. That would include San Jose Sharks games. This order comes as the county reported their first death from coronavirus. Ktvus Azenith Smith is in san jose where officials held a briefing. This new order is a first for the united states. Reporter yes, effective wednesday, gatherings with more than a thousand people are banned. Subject to law enforcement. The purpose, to stop the spread. Half of the countys cases of covid19 are Community Spread and a woman in her 60s has died. Reporter the most covid19 cases. The county is taking the lead in slowing down the spread by issuing a new order. I have issued a new local order banning people with more than a thousand people in attendance. The order in place until the end of march. Reporter it does includes large venues, including thesap center where the San Jose Sharks play. The county Health Officer has Legal Authority to issue such a ban to supervise the spread. Under state law, and under the county ordinance code, this is legally enforceable by the sheriff and by all the Police Departments in the county. And it is a crime to disobey an order of the county Health Officer. The county announces its first death from coronavirus. The second thin state. A woman in her 60s with health conditions. She died monday morning and was the first to be diagnosed with covid19 without any known history of International Travel or contact with an infected person. We have seen an increase in cases not linked to travel or known confirmed cases. Reporter there are 133 confirmed coronavirus cases in california. Nearly onethird, 43 cases in Santa Clara County. 21 cases from community transmission. San jose mayor monday lending his support. These are trying days and the weeks ahead are going to be difficult for everyone in the community. And today they announced five new cases bringing the total number to 13. The city says the additional cases are a further indication of Community Spread. Those are cases that are contracted locally, not from International Travel. San francisco has reported no deaths related to the coronavirus. San francisco announced today they will be spending 5 million to protect the citys Homeless Population from contracting or spreading the coronavirus. A noserings money goes to deep cleaning shelters, Resource Centers and single room hotels in the city and expand hours at shelters that dont operate around the clock. On wall street stocks plunged on fears over the coronavirus and a drop in oil prices. The dow dropped 2,013 points. The worst one day point drop ever. Nasdaq fell 624.
