There are more than 107,000 cases of the coronavirus worldwide. The number of new cases has slowed down in mainland china. Officials only reporting 44 new cases since yesterday. South korea, again, saw a jump to more than 7300. 3500 deaths are being reported worldwide. 19 people have died in the u. S. From the virus. In the bay area, eight new cases of the coronavirus have been reported in Santa Clara County, bringing the total there to 32. Six people in San Francisco are infected, bringing the total to eight. Santa cruz county reported the first case. Gilroy, several firefighters are being monitored after treating a person who later tested positive. So far, they do not have any symptoms. This morning, the grand princess seems to be heading away from the bay area. The vessel finder tracks movements of boats and ships. The grand princess is identified here as zack green in the middle. We have been tracking the ship the last few days. The vessel finder website has indicated a coast guard ship has been closely following that cruise ship. It appears the ship made it much closer to land yesterday. A ktvu you are sending us this photo. They were able to see the ship from the coast, from land. Officials said it came closer to lynn to receive supplies such as gloves and water from another ship. The grand princess will dock tomorrow. Officials have not given a specific timeline of one passengers will be able to get off the ship. They were told the disembarking process could take several days. The passengers who need medical treatment will go to Healthcare Facilities in california. California residents who do not require medical care will go to a federally operated isolation facility. Our preferences to get the crew off the ship as soon as possible. We believe that moving those guests ashore in an organized, thoughtful manner into the appropriate evaluation process so then they can be sent home, so they can self isolate if they live nearby in california, or they can be handled by a hospital or medical experts. Passengers who live in other states will be transported by the federal government to facilities outside of california. Crewmembers will be quarantined and treated on the ship. It was close to shore because it had to stock up on more supplies. The ship got approval from governor gavin newson to dock in oakland. It was originally supposed o af trip was shot short. A passenger on that same vessel who took a previous trip ended up being diagnosed and died. Ktvu spoke with one passengers stuck on board. He has not been allowed to leave his room for days. We are doing circles. We are spending donuts out here at sea. The crew has been very professional. They are doing what they can but they are being limited by the cdc who has been aboard. Reporter passengers who need medical attention will be transported to different facilities around the state. Otherwise will be taken to federal quarantines. Vice president mike pence says officials are monitoring another ship that might have been exposed to the coronavirus. He met with officials in florida to discuss what measures they are taking going forward. He says another ship that might have shared crewmembers with the grand princess is being tracked. Mike pence did not say what ship they are looking at or where it is located. We are establishing the same measures with the grand princess. We have taken Decisive Action to hold until we do a full medical assessment of the crew on that ship. The Vice President emphasized most americans are at a very low risk of contracting the coronavirus. The Public Health agency is urging everyone to avoid large crowds. That recommendation is not mandatory. Thousands of fans packing the chase center in San Francisco to watch the Golden State Warriors take on the philadelphia 76ers. The warriors posted a sign, warning fans that going to the game could possibly increase the chances of being infected. This is not related to the coronavirus. The coast guard to woman in her 70s off the ship after being contacted by the captain. They were taken away on a Coast Guard Boat. There is no condition on the patient. You can see several crew members in protective suits on that Coast Guard Boat is it sales away. Police have arrested a man in connection to a shooting that killed one and injured another. The department of Public Safety was called to a shooting at homestead road just west of yesterday. Policeinjuries. Police say the suspect was quickly identified and arrested in san jose. It appears he did not know the victims and they are not looking for any other suspects. Oakland police are looking for leads in the deadly shooting of an assistant football coach at a community college. Investigators say the day green was shot and killed friday afternoon on 14th street in west oakland. Police have no suspects and there is no word if any possible motive is known. Green was the coach of the comments Football Team and a former football star in richmond. A boy who was riding a bike died after being hit by a responded to california avenue just before 8 00 p. M. Investigators say the boy was riding on the sidewalk when a truck made a right turn onto El Camino Real and they collided. Police have not released the name of the boy. The driver is a man in his 60s and stayed at the scene and is cooperating with authorities. This morning, senator Kamala Harris has endorsed joe biden for president. I believe in joe. More than 70 people were inside when the building collapsed yesterday. 36 people have been sent to the hospital. One person was rescued without needing medical help. Officials only reporting 44 new cases since yesterday. South korea, again, saw a jump to more than 7300. 3500 deaths are being reported worldwide. 19 people have died in the u. S. From the virus. In the bay area, eight new cases of the coronavirus have been reported in Santa Clara County, bringing the total there to 32. Six more people in San Francisco are infected, bringing the total to eight. Santa cruz county reported the first case. Gilroy, several firefighters are being monitored after treating a person who later tested positive. So far, they do not have any symptoms. This morning, the grand princess cruise ship seems to be heading away from the bay area. The vessel finder tracks movements of boats and ships. The grand princess is identified here as the green point in the middle. We have been tracking the ship the last few days. The vessel finder website has indicated a coast guard ship has been closely following that cruise ship. It appears the ship made it much closer to land yesterday. How about this photo from a viewer . They were able to see the ship from the coast, from land. Officials said it came closer to land to receive supplies such as gloves and water from another ship. So far, 21 passengers have tested positive for the coronavirus. Ktvus darrington joins us now. Youve been looking for any preparations they are making. Reporter thats right. Im looking at directly at the port of oakland. Nothing unusual. That might be because there are reports the ship will actually go into the ardor harbor area. That is closer to the bay bridge and emeryville. The ship is expected to dock sometime tomorrow. The ship has been waiting up short and could be seen from certain vantage points in the bay area yesterday. It had to stock up on more supplies. They did get approval from governor gavin newson to dock in oakland. It was originally supposed to go to San Francisco after the trip was cut short when several people started showing symptoms of covid19. A passenger on that same vessel who took a previous trip ended up being diagnosed and died. Ktvu spoke with one passenger stuck on board. He has not been allowed to leave his room for days. Even those who dont have symptoms still need help. We have people medication. We didnt expect to be on a cruise for more than16 days. And now, we are on this extended reporter passengers whoneed medical attention will be transported to different facilities around the state. Otherwise will be taken to federal quarantines. They are the state with the largest delegate amount of programs on tuesday. He says he has the best chance of getting President Trump out of of i am more than aware that trump in 2016 won the state of michigan by a small vote. I do believe that the people of michigan are not going to make that mistake again. We certainly are not getting better. I guess is we have not seen the worst yet. Is that correct . We certainly are seeing very large outbreaks around the world know. We are seeing a counselor earning outbreak in italy and other countries in europe. We are concerned about the outbreak in iran. Chinas outbreak is really coming down. They are managing to get the new case numbers into double figures. Before, they were recording huge numbers in the hundreds. That does tell the rest of us it can be done. With more than 5000 cases in italy, they are taking drastic travel in o shut down the Community Activities a quarter of the population, some 16 million. Those worked in china to some degree. Are we getting to that point where the rest of the world might be needing to take a look at this including the u. S. If it gets that bad . Age country really needs to look at what is going to work for their system and how their people function. There are three really big elements for managing this thing. One of them, of course, hand hygiene. Be rigid about keeping hands and surfaces clean. And ensure that whenever you cough or sneeze you coffin to your elbow. Those things itself are simple but so difficult to do. The other distancing, keeping people apart. If you are come tree where it isnt possible to keep people apart unless you close down places, shutdown activities, that becomes necessary. This is a deci each government makes in terms of what works for theres people, to protect their people. I know spent time in africa working on eb o. That is a continent that has spared from the coronavirus for the most part. Medicare is very sparse. It is a huge continent with a monster population. Is that a big concern . Africa actually has some advantages. They have very young populations. This causes severity in older populations. We in europe and the u. S. Are really much struggling more because we have much older populations. Therefore, we have more people who are going to be more likely to have severe illness. The other thing about africa is because it hasnt really hit there, they have had temper to prepare. At the beginning, there were only a couple of laboratories capable of testing. Now there are over 40. There is the ability to strengthen those health systems. Thats good news. How about a vaccine . Whats the latest on that and we have any idea how long it will take to develop one . The good news is there are teams around the world raising to get one out. There are more than 20 candidates being tested right now. The more sobering news, no matter how good it is in the laboratory, you have to do human safety testing. A vaccine is something that is given to a healthy person to prevent illness. Youll have to make sure it is absolutely safe in humans and does the things you can see it doing in the laboratory. You need to make sure that. We arent animals. You have to test it properly. That takes 6 to 12 months at the fastest. It is important to note, its not always fatal, obviously. I believe over 50,000 people have gotten coronavirus and have been cured. They have gotten better. Thats good news as well. Yes. Exactly. Even people have the severe form get through it. Most people do not die. Its a difficult and unpleasant disease to have. It is pneumonia when you get the severe form. That means you have great difficulty breathing and you are exhausted and unless you get good health care, at the very least oxygen, a lot of people need ventilation. If you dont get that level of care, you may well succumb unfortunately. I think this bears repeating. What advice would you give folks in the bay area for avoiding the coronavirus and staying healthy . Number one, you mentioned it. This is your shield. It doesnt sound fancy, it doesnt sound scientific. Extremely difficult to do. I was also in hong kong during the sars outbreak. Of all the parts of china, hong kong has managed to hold down the number of cases. They shouldve had huge explosions of cases. They have such large populations. They learned a lesson with sars. Theyre rigid about cleaning hands and surfaces. It really is hugely protective. Pay attention. Sneeze into your elbow. Distance, stop the kissing, im afraid. Stop the handshakes for the moment. This is not related to the cold virus. The coast guard to woman in of ship after being contacted by the captain. They were taken away right now. In the video, you can see several crew members in protective suits on that coast guard cutter. Police have arrested a man in connection to a deadly shooting. Officers were called to a shooting at homestead road and linette lane just west of wolf road at 4 30 yesterday afternoon. Police found one man pronounced dead and a woman with nonlife threatening injuries. The suspect was quickly identified and arrested in san jose. They say it appears he did not know the victim and they are not looking for any other suspects. Oakland Police Looking for leads in a deadly shooting of an assistant football coach. Homicide investigators say Deandre Greene was shot and killed friday afternoon in west oakland. Police have no suspects and there is no word of any possible motive. He was the offensive coach of the comments Football Team. He was a former star of a Football Team in richmond. A boy who was riding a bike on friday after being hit by a truck. Police responded just before 8 00. Investigators say the boy was riding on the sidewalk when the flatbed truck made a right turn onto El Camino Real. Police have not released the name of the boy.
