Good evening. Im julie haener. Im frank somerville. The two moderate democrats deciding to back another democrat in the hopes of stopping Bernie Sanders from winning the nomination. 14 states including california will be participating in super tuesday. More than 1,300 delegates are up for grabs. Biden is coming off a big win in South Carolina and hes hoping that he can keep pace with Bernie Sanders tomorrow. Ktvus cost cost Jana Katsuyama is is here now with the developments. The sudden exit of buttigieg and steyer over the weekend and klobuchar has biden saying he can win unifying democrats, independents and some republicans. I am ending my campaign and endorsing joe biden for president. Amy klobuchar who campaigned as a moderate gave joe bidens president ial bid a big boost on the eve of super tuesday. It is time for a president that will bring decency and dignity back to the white house. Joe bidens campaign which had seemed shaky at times in the face of fresh moderate challenges got another endorsement just hours earlier from Pete Buttigieg who exited the race sunday. That was always a goal that was much bigger than me becoming president and it is in the name of that very same goal that im delighted to endorse and support joe biden for president. At the rally in dallas biden focused his fire on President Trump saying the nation needs someone with decency and character. This election isnt a battle for the soul of the democratic party, but it is a battle for the soul of america. And in the most perilous moment we faced in anyones lifetime here, winning means uniting america, not sewing more division and anger. The coalescing of moderates around joe biden of some democrats concerned over progressive senator Bernie Sanders early win and his lead in the polls. I think that part of whats going on now is people are concerned about electability. Henry brady, a uc berkeley Political Science director says the catalyst was bidens dominating win in South Carolina saturday. What biden showed is he could win african americans. The second thing is he showed that he could win moderates. The consolidation of moderate candidates now puts more pressure on Bernie Sanders as biden gains momentum. Hes on track to win somewhere between four and seven of the 14 states that are up on super tuesday. Sanders is on track to win seven toten. Sanders campaigned in st. Paul, minnesota, monday hoping to win over klobuchar supporters in her homestate. In november we are going to remind donald trump what democracy is about because were going to throw him out of office. But sanders hasnt seen a consolidation of the progressive wing with senator Elizabeth Warren still in the race. She hasnt really won any primaries yet. It doesnt look like shes going to win any on super tuesday. So its really not clear that she has any path towards the nomination at all. And tonight in minnesota sanders also suggested he could be a unifier reaching out to moderates and telling klobuchar and buttigieg supporters to come on in and join his campaign. Reporting live, Jana Katsuyama, ktvu fox 2 news. What used to be a crowded democratic field of more than two dozen Democratic Candidates is now down to just five. Still in the race, Mike Bloomberg, joe biden, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and tulsi gabbard. The shakeout in the democratic field these past few days may help explain why some california voters are waiting until tomorrow to cast their ballot in person. Ktvus Azenith Smith is at the Santa Clara CountyRegistrars Office with the preparations there and the voter turnout so far. Reporter as in the case of many counties, the Santa Clara CountyRegistrars Office says early voter turnout has been low, 20 , but theyre expecting it to be busier tomorrow given californias stake in picking the democratic president ial nominee. Election workers at the Santa Clara CountyRegistrars Office had their systems in place as they meticulously collected and counted ballots cast ahead of super tuesday. Just in the last 30 minutes weve had over 1,000 people vote. Reporter the Registrars Office says the county is expecting 40 to 50 voter turnout, roughly the same as the 2016 president ial primary. For those who voted for a democratic candidate whos dropped out once you cast your ballot you cant take it back. Theres no way for to us track it. Weve been opening ballots the last two weeks, opening and separating the envelopes from the ballots. So theres no way to find that one ballot that was turned in two weeks ago. Reporter voters can get a new ballot if they havent already turned it in like this woman who marked tom steyer on her original ballot but held onto it and is now voting for joe biden. They had to exchange my ballot for another one. I think its exciting to be in california in 2020 because it is a completely different context than in past years. Reporter state political expert Melissa Jackson said there could be record turnout. California democrats have a big impact, more so than in past primaries, many paying close attention to who votes. We have seen young voter turnout increasing from 2016 to 2018. Whether that continues is an interesting question and Bernie Sanders especially seemed to have a special connection with the younger generation. Reporter voters we spoke to had support across the board. This man just voted for Elizabeth Warren. If she doesnt get the support now, she will drop out. So you got to throw your support with who you believe in. Reporter this voter turned in ballots for his inlaws, but he himself is waiting until election day making sure his vote isnt wasted. In order for us to develop enough momentum to make change, you have to vote and if you dont have enough peopl voting, the people who vote decide. Reporter its not too late to register to vote. You can do that tomorrow. Polls open at 7 a. M. And close at 8 p. M. With the first results available shortly thereafter. Azenith smith in the south bay tonight, thank you. Governor newsom was in oakland today campaigning for the yes on 13 proposition. He visited Manzanita Elementary School as part of the statewide get out the vote tour. Equity, health, safety, framework of focus on addressing some of the most vexing and hard to fix issues like lead and addressing mold and mildew, seismic work, but also a framework that extends with a mindset of lifelong learning. Prop 13 is supported by School Districts across the state. Proponents say it could drastically raise property taxes because School Districts are required to come up with matching funds. In San Francisco there was a get out the vote rally in chinatown tonight that also provided an opportunity to give a boost to Small Businesses suffering from a lack of customers because of fear over the coronavirus. Ktvus amber lee is in the city now. Reporter this event was organized to encourage people to vote and at the same time help chinatown businesses hurting because of the coronavirus scare. In cantonese the california state treasurer is urging people in San Francisco chinatown to vote on super tuesday. California moved our primary up from june to march. Reporter ma led her support others a merchant walk campaigning for president ial candidate Mike Bloomberg. She said the former new york mayor is not a spoiler by staying in the race when Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar have dropped out and thrown their support behind joe biden. I think we have to see what voters say super tuesday tomorrow, right . For people to decide who should or shouldnt stay in the race is not really fair. Reporter among those participating in the get out the vote merchant walk were supporters of other candidates. Im supporting joe biden and the reason why is because i know his history. I know the work that hes done. He is a true blue democrat as am i. Reporter the walk ended at imperial palace restaurant where the group made it a point to dine there. The owner says the coronavirus scare has caused business to decline up to 70 . Ifcontinues like this, i dont know how long we could last, you know. Reporter the owner gibson yee said hes a registered independent and will vote for the candidate who he thinks is best for the economy. Others say they will decide election day. After i look at all the news, talk to whoever i need to talk to, i will definitely vote for either bloomberg or biden. I know its monday night, but im still really undecided. We just want what is right for the country and the last four years has not been in the right direction. People are a little hesitant to say who they really support, you know, in open conversation with friends. They go into the polling booth and they feel more secure to vote their conscience. Im counting on that. Reporter everyone we spoke with at this event agreed on one thing. They want a candidate and a president who can unite this country. Heres what we know so far. Reporter sources tell us at least one patient is in isolation here at santa rosa memorial hospital. All local providers are on alert now bracing for a wider outbreak. Its all in the ductwork. Theres nothing you can see that makes it look any different. Reporter this exam room is different because of how it captures air flow and keeps Communicable Disease from circulating, used to isolate patients with airborne illness. Coronavirus might be next, more nerve rattling than say chickenpox. Theres something new, unknown, in the press in such an intense way and its changing very rapidly. So people feel scared of it. This is a rapidly evolving situation. Reporter Sonoma County moves as other jurisdictions have from stopping coronavirus to managing it. There is more evidence to suggest that the Community Spread is likely occurring even though we dont know for sure yet. Reporter the countys first patient was transferred from quarantine at Travis Air Force base, a passenger on the diamond princess cruise ship. Reporter its a new version of risky business, one where professionals and everyday people are better off combating this threat by washing their hands, but an increasing number are making a list and checking it twice to try to avoid catching the coronavirus. Better safe than sorry. Reporter in san jose, jesse geary, ktvu fox 2 news. Washing hands, thats what people keep telling you like you do in the flu season anyway and it works really well for the coronavirus as well. Weather systems are still to the north but will change back to the south early next week. I know its a week away, but its something because we went through february with nothing. So heres the jet stream up in here. See a little activity down here. This area moving out of the subtropics out into the southeast part of the country down through dallas and those areas, more heavy rain for them. Were missing it, but as we get towards the end of this week, youll notice a bunch of clouds come in and then the weekend theres a slight chance for a few sprinkles here and there, especially saturday. And then the whole jet stream shifts south. Thats the piece that were looking for is that jet stream is not so aloof and far away from us that we arent going to have even a chance. February, that thing is not very close to us much of the time. This week its going to drop down quite a bit. 48 in napa, 47 vallejo, forecast overnight lows, forecast temperatures and sky cover for tomorrow, San Francisco 67 degrees for a daytime high tomorrow, not bad. Then mostly sunny in san jose and oakland and all over the place, beautiful, Beautiful Day everywhere tomorrow. Thats going to continue as we go into wednesday as well. Its thursday and friday when the clouds kick in and start going. Heres the model all the way through saturday. We just went through this week, but did you see im going to do it again. Okay. Watch. Everything starts to drop down as we get towards the ends of this week. Then out here well come a little bit more moisture, low latitude jet stream, better news for us as we head into the weekend and early next week. Early next week theres some indications that well get some rain, maybe even have some wet commutes which would be a change around here. Forecast highs tomorrow lots of midand upper 70s, a whole month of february like this and as we go through tomorrow and into wednesday its the same deal, but thursday, friday youll notice clouds coming in and changes. So theres the fiveday forecast. I can pop the weekend in. It looks like we are going to be at least in a position where we could get some rain. February nothing happened. Im so sick of watering. At least you said we have an opportunity. At it least were in the way of something. So that will be kind of towards friday, saturday, but really tuesday and wednesday of next week i think we got an opportunity to get some wet commutes. Does it look like a bay areawide system or just i think everybody will get a little something. Mountains will get some snow. Weve got a long way to go, but at this point that would be great to see something. We need something. Thanks. A mini park in San Francisco reopened today after undergoing a major makeover. She was picked up from school today by a parent who is not her guardian. Working with Mike Bloomberg was one of the most empowering experiences that ive had. Its important to talk to the people who know him personally. I worked for him for 8 years in city hall. Ive been working for bloomberg for 27 years. 25 years. Almost 30 years. Theres nobody that i respect more, and felt more respected by. Mike believes excellence is not defined by gender. Mike builds a culture that advances women. I was the first woman ever appointed to be council to the mayor. He expects excellence out of everyone, but he also provides the kind of support that allows you to be that person. Mike called to tell me, you should be proud of what youve done and your name should be on that project. He has faith in you, he believes in you. It was about always showing up and doing your best. I always knew that he had my back. He was raised by an extraordinary woman, she supported him all along the way and thats very much a part of who he is. Mike supports women, he promotes women, and he respects women. Marks here with sports. This was kind of cool today. Steph curry was practicing with the Santa Cruz Warriors. He was demoted. A little bit, not really, though. A three hour demotion. Has there ever been a player who has gotten more publicity out of an injury and coming back . Now it looks like maybe thursday, but officially today he was with the Santa Cruz Warriors down south just a little bit on 17 and working out. Actually the theory behind this was to let him get involved in some live scrimmage activity, minor contact as one of the coaches down thered, kind of put bubble wrap around him, make sure he doesnt get shoved or pushed. Can you imagine being the guy who did that . The coach of santa cruz talks about having steph around, what a bonus it is. We walk in. Hes shaking hands, smiling. He did his prep to get his body right, all his warmup stuff and thats important, too, for the guys to see what his approach is. Im not going to say nothing surprises me, but seeing it live is pretty impressive. Steph, just having him around is a good thing. Now it looks like maybe thursday for the comeback for the broken wrist. Moving down to arizona, practice baseball in the Cactus League, right around this time you can get starting maybe a little tired of the practice exhibition baseball, but today a special day for the San Francisco giants. The great hunter pence hunter pence gets a nice warm welcome despite the fact they were actually in the diamondbacks ballpark today just outside of scottsdale hitting fourth and looking like a cleanup guy with those socks still pulled up, got himself a base hit to Left Center Field to knock in a run. Fourth inning, two on for zach green trying to make it as a backup infielder. That is a day tripper into the picnic area and thats not all. The youngster has his first ever big league baseball. He seemed fairly impressed with it, parents with him on a short leash literally right there and the giants did win the ballgame. The as tonight, they got off to a slow start in exhibition baseball, lost their first five. Now theyve ripped off five wins in a row. They were on tv tonight, not radio, but they were on tv, kind of a messy night in mesa, arizona, a little chilly for this time of year down there. Theyre getting the rain that use. We could use. 10. Then a run for the as, buddy reed scoring. 8th inning, barrera again, little roller to right and the cubs outhit the as tonight but wind up on the short end of a 5 2 score. The as win the ballgame, their fifth in a row with only two base hits tonight. That is not going to happen very often with the lineup they sport. The tedium of spring training broken up today for the california angels against the chicago cubs for a couple reasons. First of all, you invite Charles Barkley to camp and thats a pretty good sign its not going to be your normal boring day. Joe maddon welcoming him with tony larussa who is hanging around with the angels these days and then you have the cubs, a game televised today and it was actually kind of cool because they put a mic on that guy, anthony rizzo. Listen real carefully. He even actually puts in a little shot at the Houston Astros during his at bat here. Im doing some math in my head. What are you going to throw . What you got . I have no idea. I wish i knew. Someone bang for me. Im feeling a heater right here because ive only seen one today from him. Oh, oh. Im going to go through here. No, im not. Im going to go two here. No. Turn around. I think thought thats trout out there. You notice he said i need a bang on the garbage can for a sign. Its going to be like that all year long. Over the weekend in case you missed it there are some things you need to see like mike trout swinging not a bat, but a golf club and it is something to behold. Oh. Power hitter. Power hitter indeed, 297 yards. Oh, yeah. Hit it right out of there. They dont even measure it that far, hit it out of the yard for a charity event. This is tommy bubbybruder, kind of like pong with a moving target, one of those red plastic beer cups. I dont know how many times it took him, but it was worth seeing. This is a 9yearold kid from southern california, connor. Hes been riding, trick riding, since he was 2 years old and mom and dad holding their breath as he does that. In case you missed it, this is in vegas, hockey. Benny the ice skating pooch and thats about the extent of his tricks, but he keeps it on four legs, right . Wagging his tail. There you go.
