This shakeup has certainly reset the race and has set the stage for a dramatic super tuesday. Are Lauren Blanchard has the wait is now ahead of tomorrows crucial contest. Reporter minnesota sen. And ecobashar suspending her campaign the day before super tuesday. She has announced she would fly to dallas texas to endorse joe biden. We can win big or we can lose big. The talk of evolution isnt changing anyones life. , bashar is the latest candidate to drop out. Pete buttigieg suspended his canon to see sunday night. He is expected to endorse current front runner, bErnie Sanders. This is a strong message as to where the Democratic Party is. In november, we are going to remind donald trump what democracy is about, because we are gonna throw him out of office. And despite skipping every primary and caucus before this point, Michael Bloomberg is continuing his campaign. He is also competing for moderate democratic voters. I talked to mayor pete and Amy Klobuchar and they represented their country and states very well. I am in it to when it. From a democratic field that had eight candidates just last friday. Now it is down to just three. BErnie Sanders, joe biden, Elizabeth Warren, tulsa gabbard, and Mike Bloomberg. We are joined now by our political reporter greg lee. There is no doubt this race has changed drastically in the last 48 hours. In just over an hour, we expect any call bashar and p vintages to endorse joe biden. We have been speaking to surrogates for all the candidates, and today we spoke to a key endorser for biden. A former u. S. Sen. From california. It takes a tremendous amount of strength, to step up like that. And also to help joe biden. I think its so important now. Because look, if you want a revolution, joe biden is not to give you a revolution. If you want a solution to healthcare, if you and a solution to climate, if you want a solution to education, he is the man. That target was obviously at bErnie Sanders. Obviously she reports joe biden. What are her concerns if in fact Ernie Sanders ultimately becomes the nominee . I think it is electability but also she is worried about those down ticket items. She says bErnie Sanders has never considered himself a true democrat. She is weary of the fact that those moderate democrats could be impacted having someone like bErnie Sanders at the top. BErnie Sanders on saturday at a rally in san jose said he can do good. Pete buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar dropout, conceivably the moderate wing of the Democratic Party is going to come together here. To be knows for sure that the folks that were said boarding Pete Buttigieg or any call bashar will deftly move over to biden . We cannot assume that everyone is going to go from your base to another person. There is a chance, and we have seen it before that that second person could be an Elizabeth Warren. She could see a bump from this. I think though that joe biden is gonna get the biggest bump. If you combine stier, call bashar, and vintages nationally, that is about 20 of the electorate. The idea he jumped to anybody. I want to talk a little bit about Elizabeth Warren because it appears that she has disappeared a little bit from the radar. Do you see her making a big impact come tomorrow . She needs to have a big day tomorrow. We have not seen her doing as much as some of the other candidates. We have been pretty quiet about her. I dont think she is going to drop out anytime soon. She continues to raise a huge amount of money online and a major super pack just endorsed her. Is on the she has money, she will stay in. s thank you so much greg. And you can stay with us for complete coverage on super tuesday. Is start at 4 pm tomorrow and will continue for the next seven hours on ktvu. The number of cases of coronavirus here in the u. S. Has risen to about 100. President kennedy knew settling for halfmeasures wasnt good enough. So when candidates say we cant guarantee health care for all, make College Affordable for all, combat climate change, or create a world at peace, remember that america is best when we strive to do big things, even when its hard. Im bErnie Sanders and i approve this message. My sons were in their teens. When i came home from prison so i got involved in juvenile justice, i didnt want them to go through the same thing i went through. Michael bloomberg created the young mens initiative. In helping keep other young men and young women from entering into the criminal justice system. And we see it, we see it in young people being employed. We see young people being removed out the system. Running for president , what better platform for him to speak about real justice, real reform. Im Mike Bloomberg and i approve this message. This is an extraordinary man wiin public service. Y career he revitalized American Manufacturing as the head of our middleclass task force. He led our efforts to combat gun violence. More affo, championed landmark legislation to protect our women from violence. Joes candid, honest, counsel made me a better president and a better commander in chief. And, all of this makes him the finest Vice President we have ever seen. The best part is, hes nowhere close to finished. Im joe biden and i approve this message. There are a lot of questions surrounding the coronavirus. The more that medical professionals are able to study this virus, the more clear the answers will become. For more weird on by dr. And host of life can change at a moment diecast. Thank you for coming on we appreciate it. How much more of a threat is a coronavirus compared to the flu . Initially we have a fear of the unknown, is the death rate 9 like stars or Something Like that. The first numbers that came out ardent 2 , which is still a high death rate. The flu is less than. 1 . Initially those numbers were based on the sick people, but in fact 80 of people have mild are not very severe symptoms and the death rate is likely much lower compared to the flu. It does not appear to be as deadly as it was first assumed. Ultimately it could turn out to be sort of similar in terms of the number of people that die compared to the flu . Yes, it appears to be about as contagious. If one person has coronavirus, they are able to spread it to two or three people. That is comparable to the flu. Not like the measles where one case can spread to 18 people. Is incredibly contagious, but not very lethal. This is why vaccination is so important for measles. The one in the middle, that is coronavirus, which is comparable to influenza. What we are learning is that the first 425 cases where people actually had the virus, it appears to me that we can breathe a sigh of relief. It is not as bad as we initially worried. The people that ended up dying from coronavirus ended up being older. Some of these cases in washington were in their 80s, and they had poor health conditions. The other thing that we learned from the study, there were no children under 15 infected. This virus is not a pediatric illness. It appears that children have a robust immune response and they do not get gravely ill, as opposed to older folks that have poor health. Again, that mirrors influenza. I think more children will die of influenza than coronavirus. Maybe this isnt the viral apocalypse that we are all getting worked up about. So a lot of folks are going to be listening to this and are hearing people like you say, look, for most people you do not have to be that concerned. Lets say someone out there starts to feel sick. House at someone no if those symptoms that they have are the common cold, the seasonal flu, or the coronavirus . It is can it be very different for the average person. Is difficult for us to know the difference between any of those. I think the principal thing used to guide is, do you have a cough, fever . Do you feel okay staying at home . Then you should stay out of the public and not transmit. A lot of times people do not listen. I have a feeling that people will listen when they are told not to go to school, not to go to the gym, not to work. It is going to be hard to tell the difference between a cold, the flu, and coronavirus. I can tell you from a lab which one looks differently, but it would be too hard to tell these symptoms apart by the naked eye. We have to leave it there, thank you for putting things into perspective for us. A lot of sunshine this afternoon, temperatures are unseasonably warm. The wind has not let up and many areas. A wind advisory that started yesterday morning has extended into today and it will not expire until tomorrow morning. More on that and just a moment. Plus thousands of californians have artie voted ahead of tomorrows primary and many of them are wondering what happened to their vote now that three of the candidates have dropped out of the race. Working with Mike Bloomberg was one of the most empowering experiences that ive had. Its important to talk to the people who know him personally. I worked for him for 8 years in city hall. Ive been working for bloomberg for 27 years. 25 years. Almost 30 years. Theres nobody that i respect more, and felt more respected by. Mike believes excellence is not defined by gender. Mike builds a culture that advances women. I was the first woman ever appointed to be council to the mayor. He expects excellence out of everyone, but he also provides the kind of support that allows you to be that person. Mike called to tell me, you should be proud of what youve done and your name should be on that project. He has faith in you, he believes in you. It was about always showing up and doing your best. I always knew that he had my back. He was raised by an extraordinary woman, she supported him all along the way and thats very much a part of who he is. Mike supports women, he promotes women, and he respects women. The shakeup in a democratic primary has some early voters here in california questioning the process. If they voted for Amy Klobuchar, Pete Buttigieg, or tom stier, well, their votes no longer count. We are joined now for a panel to explain more. Right now there are no do overs in california. Correct, there will probably be one half million voters whose ballots have been cast and they will count at the congressional level, but their candidate is no longer running for office. For practical purpose, does that vote matter . It does matter, it will potentially have the effect of determining which candidate can reach 15 statewide so there will be impacts of those votes. I can understand a lot of voters however, my father included, are wishing that they could get a chance to do it again. Yes almost half of the 20 democratic whose names appeared on the ballot have pulled out of the race. With this latest shakeup, who do you think benefits . There could be a number of candidates that benefit from this. Some people like to say that pete but a judge endorses biden, his will go to biden. A lot of people supported be the judge might support sanders, or warren. I think we have a core handful number of candidates making it to the top spot. A lot of people are saying it is looking more and more like a twoperson race. Is like youre saying lets wait until tomorrow happens . Yes, california has played a huge role in this process. I do not think these candidates wouldve been dropping out if it wasnt for the fact that we have this huge trove of delegates to be allocated tomorrow, we have a number of candidates that are still top tier candidates. I dont think anybody should consider this a twoperson race, yet. However california might play out a role in who gets to go into march and april, because of candidates cannot perform well in california, it is unlikely they will be successful going forward. You said it yourself, tomorrow represents the biggest basket of delegates. Thats look and see. Which of the remaining candidates need to do to catch up to bErnie Sanders . For example, biden. Is there path forward for bloomberg or warren . There are clearly still paths. We had a huge number of delegates in california. Hitting on when you look at the polling anytime in the last year, there were periods of time where biden was at the top, then warren was at the top, then sanders is at the top. Newberg is the x factor. He came in here with a nontraditional strategy and has been antedating the airwaves. He has probably engaged a lot of voters that werent necessarily targeted by the other campaigns. So there is a real factor with him. Among those four candidates, i think there is a lot to play for on tuesday and i think it is premature to say that anyone has this locked up. It is still wide open. And whatever happens within the next 24 hours will likely shape the rest of the campaign. Tomorrow will be crucially important. Now is the time to get that vote in. I think its good to mention that if you have a ballot, and the candidates you vote for an on the ballot, go to a precinct, there is not a problem that cannot be fixed, and that she artie voted. The u. S. Supreme court just agreed to file a lawsuit that seeks to confirm the constitutionality of the Affordable Care act. The court said it would hear an appeal by california, and 19 other states. Those days are trying to reverse a Lower Court Ruling that found the laws individual mandate provision unconstitutional. The justices will likely hear arguments in the fall and a decision will be made next year. For more what this means to california moving forward, we are joined by the law professor at santa clara university. Take you for coming on here. What are the essential questions that the justices will be grappling with . If you remember in 2012, it was upheld on the decision that the Affordable Care act, including its individual mandates wasnt taxed. They decided to reduce that tax penalty 20, and on that basis the District Court ruled that the individual mandate was unconstitutional and further decided that the entire act was constitutional. This ask whether or not that district opinion was correct. Further, just because the individual mandate is struck down, does that necessarily mean that the rest of the act is to be struck down as well . Is there any sense out there that how strong of an argument these states have here as they try to make their case to the high court . I think it does in many ways prevent an issue for the Supreme Court. I think where the District Court striking down the Affordable Care act recently probably went wrong was that the decision to strike down the entire act is that the individual mandate. I think that will be a major part of this case. And that has significant consequences because if the entire act is struck down, in order to reinvigorate Something Like obamacare, youd have to pass it from the ground up. At the rest of the act remains in place, it helps congress to increase the penalty or institute a penalty for an individual mandate and then have the same structure as before. So we could potentially see a split decision, with a rule that the individual mandate with a zero tax penalty is unconstitutional, but the rest of the Affordable Care act would remain intact . That is right. There are at least three questions presented to the court. One is whether the people bringing the suit have the legal right to make the challenge. Second, is the question whether did the individual mandate is constitution. And third is to question the other aspect of the Affordable Care act need to be struck down if the individual mandate is found unconstitutional. We know the high court has artie upheld the Affordable Care act a couple of times. We will wait to see how this particular case plays out. We appreciate your insight. Thank you. This is a day night doubleheader day, with the giants this afternoon. It will be the as this evening. I will have a live report coming up from mesa arizona. Ri allview baseball fans, spring training is in full swing. The as take on the cubs and just about an hour. And the giants play the d backs today before the game was called due to hail. Our joe fonzi is joining us live from mesa, arizona. And joe, some crazy weather down there. Absolutely, at first it was a Beautiful Day when it started, then we had some heavy rain over and scottsdale, and im a do this because i have been doing it all day. I will quote ernie banks who said, it is such a great day today for baseball, lets play two. The as are getting ready for their game against the chicago cubs. No question about the fact that there are a lot of contrast between the two teams this year. This may be a year of change for the giants, but things looked awfully familiar in their game today against the arizona diamondbacks. The greeting hunter pence got when he made his debut was an indication of what he means to giants fan. The same for pablo sandoval. Both camps started camp this spring as nonroster invitees. It is a tremendous honor to be welcomed and it was being great to hear all day. If okay to got their place in baseball. We love the fan support that we get. It was special to see. Its special to be back and play hard this year. This game against the diamondbacks was reported as one where Major League Baseball would continue to experiment with robotic umpires calling balls and strikes. That series was artie used in the arizona folly. But no one was saying whether the cameras were. These in several locations around the field are probably hightech enough. Major League Baseball did say that data is being collected for future consideration. Jeff samardzija is okay with leaving things where they are. I think most pitchers and catchers and appreciate the umpires back there. They work hard and practice and prepare just like we do. We dont want a game with no personality or no fun. The robotic umpire concept certainly isnt going away, but it will be a while before it is ever instituted in Major League Baseball games. We always thought of the giants as the team that just had a couple of openings on the roster, it is just the opposite. The as have a great core and they probably only have two or three spots on the roster, where the giants had an infusion of youth from last year, some veteran players back, and a new manager. The as have thing pretty well set. We are seeing two teams that both call mesa their spring home. The cubs that used to play here, is now the home of the as. We get to see two games in one day, and we cannot argue with that. Sounds like a pretty good deal. Jan 25 live in mesa, arizona. Thanks joe. Around the bay area this afternoon, the wind continues, especially for our hills and the north bay. This will last into the evening hours. The advisory is for our north bay hills, and are eased they hills and does include a little stretch of the cartoonist areas. Along the coastline and the inner east bay, we had an advisory that expired earlier today. It is still very breezy out there. Here is a look at the pattern that has set up and is bringing us all that wind. The system brought some snow to tahoe and cooled us down. It is now over areas of southern california. You can see how the High Pressure is beginning to build and and strengthen and we are right in between. Thats what brings all of this wind. Finally began to taper off tomorrow morning. You can see the wind finally dies down tomorrow and the temperatures will be back up. We will be in a quiet pattern for a few days. We do have some changes coming our way in time for the weekend. Here is saturday morning where you can see a little bit of moisture over areas of northern california. Then as we get into sunday, it stays with us. A little bit of unsettled weather coming our way. Heres a look at what you can expect tomorrow morning under partly cloudy to mostly clear skies. 50 and a San Francisco. 49 degrees and oakland. A little cooler and the north. Here is a view of what we typically get this time of year. About 15 degrees above the seasonal average. Temperatures tomorrow or to be very similar to today.
