Lets start there. Breaking news at the jury in new york has just convicted the disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein in a Sexual Assault trial in new york. Well bring in Frank Mallicoat live in the newsroom to bring us all the news, frank. Good morning. Just coming down in the last half hour, weinsteins conviction solidified his dizzying fall from hollywood studios. The verdict followed weeks of harrowing and graphic testimony from a string of accusers who told their stories of abuse. The conviction was seen as a long overdue reckoning for weinstein after whispers of his behaviors turned into a number of accusations and destroyed his movie career and gave rise to the global metoo movement. He was found guilty on two counts but not three other counts that were more serious. The jury of seven men and five women took five days to deliberate over the charges. While weinstein did not testify, his lawyers contended that any sexual contract was consensual and his accusers went to bed with him to advance their kreers. Weinstein also faces charges in los angeles now in that case announced just as the new york trial was getting underway on january 6th. Authorities allege weinstein rained one woman and sexually assaulted another on backtoback nig oscar week back in 2013. One of those women tested as the supporting witness at the new york trial. Oaklands Mcclymonds High School will stay closed another day as they wait the chemicals found on school grounds. As allie rasmus reports, meetings are being held about whats next for the school and its students. Reporter one of those two information sessions for parents is happening right now at west Oakland Middle School in the library. One of the things parents can expect to learn about is where their kids will go next now the mcclynonds high school is closed as a precaution since thursday because of a discovery of a known cancercausing chemical found on the school grounds. That chemical is called t. C. E. It was found in the groundwater under the school, but not in the drinking water. The exact source of the contamination hasnt been identified yet, but the concern is whether vapors from that chemical may be in the air at the high school campus. Preliminary tests done on saturday show the air appears to be safe, but keep the campus closed until they get final Lab Test Result this is week. In the meantime, school will resume for students just not on the high school campus. The district is working on a plan to divert students to other locations temporarily, including here at west Oakland Middle School. This was the first time you two worked together, two different organizations so how did you wind up getting paired on saturday morning, rich . I was given an assignment and they told me who it was going to be and it was quincy. A planker is a person that just goes along with the k9 team. At this point it turned from rescue to recovery. Where is your specific assignment there . We were told to search the drainage from shallow beach up to whats the name of the road . To roughly a mile long drainage we were given to search. Tell us about the drainage right now, quincy. What was it like for you getting through the area . The drainage is very thick. Its just a wall ofcoyote bush k us, to get a thousand feet, over an hour. Over an hour . Uhhuh. So when did you startmething . Around 10 00 we were hiking and we heard someone say, like, hello . Sounded like 100 feet away and they started yelling for help. And who was that, that was talking . It was both of them yelling for help. By the time you heard that voice, how far were you, do you think . About 100 to 150 feet. And how long did it take to get that 150 feet through that brush . Probably five to eight minutes just to breakthrough. When you heard the voice, did the group get in the mix at that point . Once we heard the voice and made contact and realized it wasnt another search time, and they started saying help, i just told groote to search, and he went out. It was clearly a verbal contact between them and us. It wasnt technically a k9 find. He did go down and ping pong back and forth between us. You eventually get to ian any were . Yes. What did they say . We asked them what their names were because we thought someone elseve for someone who had been out that long, but they carol and ian were very glad to see us. And how were they situated . Were they right next to each other . They were laying down, kind of leaning against some down branches that were behind them partially in the mud. Their feet were down in the mud and just laying onsite bit of hillside where there was a little bit of sunlight would get to them and warm them up a little bit. Here you are in the middle of the woods more than a week after carol and ian disappeared and you were physically there talking to them and you were the only two who know this at this moment. What are you thinking internal alive. I wasnt called in to make a live find tha uhhu. Quincy, youre 18 years old, a senior at marin high. What was your reaction . Ive been on finds before, but this was something else. For the first 20 minutes my mind couldnt comprehend they were there. I almost refused believe it. Its just so amazing, but it felt great. The story didnt end there. Here you are by yourself, youre having radio problems. You need to tell everyone so you can get them out of there. Tell that part of the story. So i quincy was doing radio calls for me, so i started doing just the basic assessment on the couple and quincy was working his way up the hill a little bit so he could get out. I think it started through two different teams to get through the incident command to let them know what happened and took several minutes of back and forth to give them our coordinates so they could get resources to help. They eventually did get a one of the sar vehicles with one of the more powerful vehicles above us and calms got much better. What was the call you made over the radio . What do you say . We have a system kind of a code word so i said plan b and i said are you sure, and i said theyre alive. At first people werent quite believing me, especially with the bad coms. They asked me, are you sure theyve alive. So we radioed in, and then we radioed our coordinates. And you sat there with them for about 30 minutes before they were able to get out. Any conversation between them or did they just sit quietly . Oh, no, they were talking. They were just happy to see somebody. They had heard a helicopter flying over a couple times, and they ian said he had heard some vehicles andieled out, but nobody heard him when he was yelling, which is not unheard of in that area. Its really hard to get anyone to hear you at all. But they were talkative, happy someone actually found them. And basically they were found about a mile away from where their cottage was they had rented. Yeah. And they were gone for more than a week. Quincy, great job. And laws that prohibit people with restraining orders from having guns, new funding would create a specialized unit to take away gun from people with permanent Domestic Violence restraining orders. 12,000 workers are set to go on strike this week.
