Some of the people who were quarantined at Travis Air Force base are leaving the bay area today. Ktvus Sara Zendehnam joins us live with an update. Theyre expected to leave at 7 00 this morning. We know that one bus will head to Sacramento International airport and another bus will come right here to sfo. The 13day quarantine ended yesterday. A bus got to sfo yesterday afternoon and also dropped people off here. Another bus left travis just before 7 30 a. M. Yesterday. These evacuees got on a state chartered flight. The cdc says 180 people staying at travis were medical clooe cleared and their quarantine orders were lifted. We talked to one man about how hes feeling now that hes free to go home and his time on base. Its good to be out of the quarantine. The treatment at the base was very good. The meal quality was good. The staff was very friendly. It was nice. I mean, other than the fact that we couldnt leave for two weeks it was very nice. Other state department chartered flights landed at Travis Air Force base this month. One on february 7th from wuhan and later this week their quarantine will be lifted. Newly quarantined Cruise Ship Passengers who came to travis from japan on february 16th are being held in a separate area and are also still under the 14 day quarantine. People housed at travis say they had their temperatures checked twice a day and were monitored to show their symptoms. Again, we are expecting a bus to leave Travis Air Force base at about 7 00 this morning and head to sfo and we will be here for that buss arrival. At sfo this morning, Sara Zendehnam, ktvu fox 2 news. Later today, the Santa Clara County board of supervisors will receive an update on the coronavirus in the south bay. Now the county declared a local Health Emergency this month after two people tested positive for the illness. Both of them had just flown back from wuhan, china and had been isolated in their homes recovering from the virus. Our time is now 6 04. About 500 passengers left the quarantined cruise ship diamond princess in japan today. The passengers left after their quarantine period ended. They showed no signs of the virus. About a 1,000 crew members will stay on that cruise ship. There have been 542 coronavirus cases reported on that cruise ship. In iran today, they Just Announced their first cases of coronavirus in iran. The coronavirus has killed more than 2,000 people and infected more than 75,000 around the world. This morning a 76yearold novato man who was reported missing is now in a hospital after an intense search. Robert bennetts family called the Marin County Sheriffs Office monday evening when he did not come home. His car was found near a san rafael trail yesterday and Surveillance Video showed bennett near that trail. Thats where rescue teams focused their search and a search team found bennett late last night off the trail. Later this morning, another search resumes in marin county for a couple from palo alto who had been missing since saturday. They were last seen friday. Theyd been staying in a rented home and they left behind phones, wallet vmds and their car at rental house. Mr. Irwins son is very worried. They wouldnt leave all their stuff and their car and just vanish. So, yes, i think its very strange that there wouldnt have been a mile away, two miles away. Its as if like um, its like somebody picked them up and removed them from the area. Now, investigators checked the couples electronics looking for clues as to why or how they disappeared. Today theyll focus on water areas. A medical examiner will look into how a sunnyvale man died at an oregon ski resort. At mount hood meadows resort on monday. Searchers found his body in an area known as heather canyon. This is the second death at the resort in two days. Authorities are trying to identify two people found in a burned out car. That plunged 300 off a highway in big surrender. Firefighters discovered the bodies earlier yesterday morning after butting out a brush fire started by that car. The cause of the crash is under investigation. Time is 6 06. A second firefighter now believed to have died in the city of porterville. Flames were shooting through the roof and quickly engulfed the building. Authorities said one porterville city firefighter died and another was missing. But the fresno bee is now saying another firefighter has also died. No word yet on how that fire started. A hearing is set in federal court today for the undocumented immigrant accused of killing kate steinly in San Francisco. Jose garciazarate is facing charges. The hearing today involved sealing a competency report and what to do next with the case. He was acquitted in a San Francisco Supreme Court of the 2015 shooting death of kate steinly. Police are searching Surveillance Video of an attack. Video shows the man inside Gordos Taqueria at 6 30 p. M. On sunday. One worker handed the man his burrito. Thats when the man suddenly hit the cashier in the face with the cellphone and then started throwing things at him including his burrito. He threw the card swipe, everything he could grab here, you know, the metal container. I think he threw the tip jar also. So all in all, he was lucky he didnt have a worse injury. Police are now hoping the public can help identify that suspect. Take a look. They describe him as latino, 45 to 50 years old. 49 tall. 180 pounds. He was wearing blue jeans and a black 49ers tshirt. The state insurance commissioner supports a plan to protect Property Owners in the areas where the fire risk is high. It would require Insurance Companies to cover all existing homes as long as they meet fire safety standards. Insurance owners would have to give homeowners upgrades. This comes after insurers have dropped customers in areas that are high risk fire zones. State lawmakers are introducing a new bill to hold Utility Companies more accountable for wild fires. The state attorney general and local district attorneys the power to prosecute utilities due to improper safety practices. Right now only the California Public Utilities Commission has that authority. We do not have to wait until a disaster to strike to hold these Utility Companies to the standards and the letter of the law that currently exists. By giving local jurisdictions the power to enforce existing safety regulations, we seek to stop the next disaster before it start rs. S. This bill is about prevention. The new bill is expected to go too committee next month. San Francisco Mayor london breed says she has learned a hard lesson about needing to keep her personal and professional lives separate. He had been missing since monday afternoon. He was last seen on Surveillance Video. The Sheriffs Office says time was of the essence and those two k9s played a big role in finding him. Weve had two other searches this weekend. Countless hours have been spent and we owe it to the search and volunteers to being so dedicated and involved in this community. Its a resource were so lucky to have. And i want to clarify his name is richard bennett. The 76yearold is from novato and an avid outdoorsman and we were told he was brought here to marin health. A death in san joses East Foothills is being investigated by the Santa Clara County Sheriffs Office. The body of a woman was found at a home near mountain avenue. Her family is being notified. Investigators havent said how she died or if there were signs of a struggle. Detectives spent last night talking to neighbors and also looking for any nearby Surveillance Video. Well, police in santa rosa asking for help from you after three people were attacked at the citys transit mall. Now, the victims say seven or eight men confronted them and they didnt know the people who assaulted them. Police say at least one of the suspects used a golf club to hit the victims several times. The three victims are being treated for serious injuries. Their names have not been released. The Antioch School board held a special meeting to discuss a new safety plan after a student was shot and killed outside a High School Basketball game. Relatives of 16yearold jonathan park are say he wasnt to his first game. After the game, there was a fight and parker was killed. There are now demands for increased security. I want justice for my nephew. I want Deer Valley High School to make it safe for every child. That no child should have to endure what my nephew did. Now, families of other deer valley students are demanding security guards be on School Grounds to prevent violence on campus. So far, investigators have not released a motive for the shooting and no arrests have been made. Time is 6 35. A mans been arrested in Mountain View accused of trying to kidnap a 53yearold woman. 33yearold Jeremiah Porter repeatedly rang the doorbell at a house on monday night. When the victim opened the door he burst in and grabbed her by the neck and tried to force her into her own car. Police made an arrest a few hours later in that same area. Police are looking for suspects in an armed Home Invasion in the oakland hills. Security video shows a man knocking at the front door of a home on grand view drive on monday night. Now the video shows a second man then showing up. They moved the camera up and away, smashed through the glass panel. The woman who was inside says one of the men then pointed a gun at her. She says she locked herself in a bedroom and called 911. Its sad, i dont understand. Yeah, i think we just need more Police Department being up here patrolling and stuff, yes. By the time police got there, the two men left without taking anything. Anyone with information is asked to call oakland police. A suspect in at least three east bay armed robberies was arrested. Yeah, hes one of two suspects in robberies on the same day last week in oakland and in richmond. Latif malik was arrested last friday. Oakland police say he cut off his long hair. He was actually planning to leave the state. Well, todays the deadline for people to move out of a homeless encampment in santa rosa on west 3rd street. The democrat reports most of them have been forceded out of other homeless encampments in santa rosa earlier this month. They now have until 5 00 tonight to move on out. Solano county sheriffs deputies arrested a man accused of pointing a laser at a chp plane. The pilot was headed to the napa airport of after a search on monday night when he reported a laser pointed right into his eyes. From the planes camera, you can see the suspect down there on the ground. Deputies arrested 33yearold christopher larson. They say they also found a laser pointer. Right now its 6 37. Lets go back over to allie for a look at traffic this morning. Well, there is a crash were learning about in the south bay. Its not a major crash so no lanes blocked according to the notes so far. But you will encounter it if you are on southbound 85. The car involved is still stuck in the road. So expect traffic to back up a little bit in this area. From there, we go to the san mateo bridge where its slow getting over to the peninsula. No major issues to tell you about. No crashes once you get over to the peninsula on 101. The commute there looks good for this hour. Here is highway 24 in lafayette getting busier as the morning goes on. No major problems on that stretch either. And there is a pretty good traffic flow in the golden gate bridge. Marin county into the city. I see clear skies in this picture but it looks like something that kind of resembles fog in san mateo bridge area. There is fog. Low clouds, fog. Of the. We have a little bit of that unlike yesterday. Correct. Nationally, though, ill tell you were not getting any rain here. But for some. Its all or nothing here it seems like. Right now its nothing, but for others, it wont stop and that Southern Branch of the jet stream continues to just funnel in moisture right there through much of the deep south where theyve had a lot of rain. The polar jet is really a lot. Its not doing a lot. It kind of calmed down a little bit. Thats really calmed down a lot. But that Southern Branch of the jet is really active and that does not look like its going to change. The 5 to 7day outlook for rain put a lot down there. So if you have travel plans down to the south, i would take the rain here. Water temps are very cold. Thats a system on the way. It will probably do what many others have done and weaken considerably. It looks like it wants to take this low and it will come in like this and go that way. Well be on the northern acknowledge of it which means i dont think well get anything out of it. Theres a hint of rain around. My guess is it will be monterey and san joaquin valley. Average is 61, 48. 75, the record high 1964. 38 the record low 1982. Look at all these temperatures 20 degrees colder. 39, 305. Lots of 30s here. Even free montes 39. Santa rosa says fog. And 35 fairfield. 33 on the peninsula. San mateo, hillsboro and foster city down to 30. So thats a definite chill here in the morning. That does not bode well for us. But water temps are so cold. Any system coming in enhances that low cloud deck and thats what were getting. A lot of cloud cover, but, again, i think theyll back up being the forecast models. It shows Bernie Sanders narrowly trailing Pete Buttigieg. The Sanders Campaign spokeses person told the Associated Press they think the margins are so slim that a recount could change the outcome. A record turnout is expected for californias primary. To be part of super tuesday when 14 states will hold their primaries. That means registered democrats in california could have a bigger impact on the election. If you have this very large, very diverse state voting for a particular candidate that could be a source of legitimacy for that candidate. California has seen a jump in registered voters from 68 in 2004 to 81 now a total of 21 million californians are registered to vote in the primary. Well authorities in San Francisco pushing back against the Homeland Security department and their plans to target sanctuary cities. The department of Homeland Security announced a plan to to help out i. C. E. Agents arrest undocumented immigrants in sanctuary cities. The city is standing by its immigrant community and the sanctuary city policies. Our department is not involved in immigration enforcement. We feel thats a federal matter and our realm of interest is Public Safety and you cant have a Safe Community as Community Members are afraid to come to us to report crimes. I. C. E. Fishes say Officials Say they need support and have to track them down on their own. The federal government hasnt said exactly where those agents will be sent. Governor gavin newsom was criticized. Recent changes from the white house permit less water for fish and allow more state and federal pumping of water. Critics claim the governor vetoed a bill that would of adopted new guidelines and tougher protections here in california for the air and the water. Muny fares may go up next year. The proposal would increase the cash fare from 3 to 3. 25. The cable car fare would increase to 9 in 2022. Some supervisors oppose the increase and would prefer to increase funding through a business tax ballot measure in novz. The sfmta will vote next year. One San Francisco supervisor is working to make bathhouses legal again in the city. Supervisor ra tale menzer. That would amend the City Health Code for adult sex venues. The city closed down bathhouses in the 80s to stop the spread of aids. Bathhouses were once a focal point in the gay community. He says medical advancements are making regulations unnecessary. Cal trains temporarily suspending Weekend Services because of construction work. The 22nd street station began this weekend. We also see some slow traffic on ssh 680 and on highway 24 as well. This crash that youre seeing here is off the freeway. Its at that time 60th street in oakland. So ill continue to follow that and look for more information on that. Here is a look at highway 24 in lafayette. It does clear up a little bit as you get closer to orinda past this point.
