A little girl in the south bay was injured today after being attacked by what is believed to be a Mountain Lion. Now for the second time in less than a year the park where it happened has been temporarily shutdown while the authorities track down the animal. It happened at 10 00 this morning at the Rancho San Antonio county park and open space preserve that is located in cupertino. Reporter frank, one official told me that this is the first known physical. It is a popular dest flation for families and hikers but will remain closed destinations for families and hikers but will remain closed. Reporter everyone is being turned away. It is closed because of a Mountain Lion. Reporter a 6yearold girl hiking a mile into the preserve with two adults sustained two small puncture wounds to her leg after being attacked by what the authorities believe to a Mountain Lion. It happen on the wildcat loop trail. Luckily she had very quick thinking adults with her and one of them was able to push the lion away and it took off down in the brush. Reporter the task now is to catch the lion that is somewhere out here. Specially trained dogs are used to track the lions scent. If capture dna from the animal will be used to match the sample taken from the girl. We will capture the lion, put it in a trap where it will wake up but we will collect dna evidence before it happens and make sure we captured the correct lion. They believe there are only three in the preserve. Hikers have no concern about being attacked. I feel like i am large enough where they are going to leave me alone. Reporter to couple said they carry tracking poles and a stick. Two years ago i heard about Mountain Lion packs and i was a little scared. I am an engineer, not very strong. I went to amazon and bought a stick and i intend to use it as a defensive weapon when Mountain Lion attacks me. Reporter they are seen in the preserve they are usually run from humans. The 17th incident in the last 100 years that occurred. Three fatalities since 1986. Chances of being injured on your way to open space in a car accident are much, much greater than a chance of being injured by a wild animal in the outdoors. No contact but the animals did not run away and the authorities call that unacceptable behavior. They tell me they shutdown the trails for two days. Both are now facing charges of trespassing and vandalism. A man and a woman were severely injured today after the car they were in crashed down a steep ravine. The man was driving east on fairfax when he lost control. The car rolled down a 25 foot ravine and landed on its side on the creek near baywood canyon drive. It took rescue crews almost an hour to get the two out safely. The chp is still investigating why the man lost control of the car in the that stated that the car was driving erratically prior to the collision. However, we dont have a cause yet at this time. Both the driver and his passenger were taken to Marin General Hospital with major injuries. The state fish and game officials helped clean up the creek because gas and oil spilled from the car into the water. Two people are recovering after they were stabbed overnight in san jose. The police were called to the area of east san salvador and south 2nd street after 2 00 a. M. The officers taped off part of the street and questioned several people outside of the bars in the area. The paramedics were seen helping one injured man laying in the street. The Police Say Two men were taken to the hospital, each with nonlifethreatening injuries. It happened after 5 00 last night on fairview avenue near central boulevard. The victim died at the scene. The police have released a picture of the victims car. The only person inside.
