the room cracks were visible on the ceiling and the wall. >> i have been worried about the trees for a long time. i called the city and complained about it. this was my worst nightmare that the trees would come down on >> reporter: sunday's windstorm wreaked havoc. tree after treetopelled over, branches and debris. >> what is remarkable about this is that it is breezy and then the gusts come in and they are really frightening. the trees shake, everything shakes. you just don't know where it is going to stop. >> daned the neighborhood association reached out to the city about hazardous trees. some have been cut down. days like this are a reminder how dangerous they can be. >> we had such a bad time last fall during the fire problems we are sensitive to wind up here. >> reporter: the oakland fire department responded to more than 100 calls, fallen trees, downed power lines, damaged homes, damaged cars, thousands without power. >> you see a power line that is down or even any kind of line don't figure out if it is cable or power on your own. just call us. >> i asked the battalion chief if the wind posed a fire hazard. >> the winds will increase the fire damages, we are fortunate right now we have high humidities and fuel humidities and it is nice and cool. >> reporter: many parks closed for the day. the oakland zoo and ferry land shutdown for safety reasons. they posted this picture on instagram showing trees that fell near a story book set. >> reporter: trees have been falling all over the neighborhood. behind me you can see a tree slam into this residence on east 18th avenue between 5th and 6th street. i also got off of the phone with the oakland fire department. they told me a woman who was hiking on french trail up near the oakland hills was injured today when a tree branch fell on her as she was taking that walk. she had to be airlifted to the hospital. another issue we are having out here is power outages, a few blocks from where we are all the way up to the neighborhood. about 3,000 customers are without power. pg&e is working to restore it. reporting like in oakland, ktvu fox news. a large dry tree fell over and narrowly missed severa it happened on willow street. clean up crews were also called to fern side boulevard when another large tree also came crashing down during today's winds. the winds also blew down a street sign in the area. fortunately we are not getting reports of anyone injured. it was windy in the south bay as well. part of a large tree came down on to a grassy area in san jose. this was on santa clara avenue near 9th street. our chief meteorologist here now with how strong the winds were today. i live up in the oakland hills, not only did we lose the power but it was blowing. >> reporter: one of those wind events, frank, skpefrgd else, that did not just impact the hills. so often we have the incidents wind gusts, 50-60 miles an hour. we were seeing wind gusts down that is an equal wind opportunity event. 80-mile-an-hour. wind gusts. 52 miles an hour. livermore, 53 miles an hour at airport. these are sea level or near sea level occurrences. that is significant wind. middletown as we see, higher. this as a wind event everyone noticed. a lot more trees and tree branches are on the ground. a lot of issues even tonight the winds are out there. for the bay land safe places like berkeley and san francisco the wind advisory will be dropped in the next hour and as we go into tomorrow morning we will see the wind advisory stay into effect in the oakland hills and east bay hills into the value portion. what you want to know here is that this is right now, basically. this is the model. we see the red. you can see the numbers but the colors, that represents the density and the strength of the winds, right? watch what happens as we click along here a little bit overnight into tomorrow morning when the wind advisories are through the blue, the cooler colors, things back down quite a bit as we head into tomorrow morning. the worst of it is over. frank and i were chatting here a little bit. reporting we have not verified. lake tahoe, wind gust of 200 miles an hour at the peak up there. i have not seen it validated yet. if that were the case that is the range of the highest recorded wind speed ever in the state of california. we will see. i have not seen it validated yet. either way, more than 8800 customers and nearby hayward, 8500 re without power. in castro valley outages impacted some 8900 customers. and about 5600 customers lost power in san jose. the live oak areas more than 3,000 custers are in the dark. they are working to restore power now to 60,000 total bay area customers at the moment. the high winds forced the oakland zoo to close several hours early today for the safety of the guests. the zoo closes at 4:00 on sundays but today they closed about noon. the zoo is in the oakland hills right by 580. surrounded by large trees that, as you can see, were swaying during today's powerful gusts. the zoo is expected to open up at 10:00 in the morning. you might want to check the web site just to be sure. high winds prompted the closure of a number of parks today including roberts, hucleberry, clare month canyon and more. they were dealing with downed trees and power lines. the highway patrol closed all lanes of interstate 8080 after a power pole fell on a car in the high winds. no one was hurt. open two hours later. they were hoping to visit alcatraz were out of luck. the cruises canceled departures to the high winds. the national weather service said kirkwood mountain resort clocked a wind gust. you heard them talking about it a moment ago. they clocked a wind gust of 209 miles an hour. they are working to verify the speed f. it was the speed, it would set a new state california. >> the high window on the 41st floor was partially open when it broke this morning. glass fellol to the ground below that led -- fell on to the ground below that led the police to close the streets in the area. the area was reopened at 2:45 after crews were done cleaning up the glass. it made headlines in recent years for are having sunk and tilted more than a foot since it was completed in 2008. at sfo high winds caused flights to be delayed today. the airport says arriving flights are delayed by an average of 1 hour and 23 minutes. the delays are causing turned himself or herself in. authorities still have not released the suspect's name. one person is under arrest after a person was killed. several cars collided in the eastbound lanes after 2:00 this morning. the 29-year-old rider of a motorcycle died at the scene. the driver of one of the cars 59-year-old tony moss was taken to the hospital and was later arrested for dui. all lanes were reopened afghanistan yesterday. they are 28-year-old gutierrez from san antonio, texas and 28- year-old antonio rodriguez from las cruces, new mexico, 6 others wounded in the attack. u.s. and afghan forces were conducting a joint operation when a person wearing a afghan uniform opened fire on the service members with a machine gun. the fbi and san francisco police are int was involved in a shooting that streets of downtown san francisco for the annual chinese new year's parade. this year's celebration welcomed in the year of the rat. it is also an event filled with excitement. the parade is
