250 people were here. control and the impeachment of president donald trump are were of high interest to those attending the townhall meeting. a largely enthusiastic audience greeted the congressman for the townhall meeting at dublin high school on thursday night. spank the president of the united states is impeached. >> reporter: many say the impeachment of resident donald trump and the upcoming presidential elections are of high interest. >> what we are doing to prevent russians meddling again like they did in 2016 is important.>> reporter: before the townhall, the congressman tells us the priorities. >> housing, reducing congestion and traffic, and holding a reckless president accountable. >> reporter: he also addressed gun control, an issue at the forefront of his brief run for president. >> [ indiscernible - low volume ] >> there were a dozen gun rights activist holding banners at the back of the room. >> talked about him talking about abortion rights and gun rights activism at the same time.>> reporter: this response drew strong reactions from supporters and critics. stick you think criminals return their guns in? do you think they will go through a background d.c. on monday. on the peninsula, jackie spear held her own town meeting. hundreds were in the auditorium at south san francisco high school, including dozens of students i came to learn more about the impeachment process. a stanford law professor helped lead tonight's discussion. also tonight, and [ indiscernible ] how the townhall and martinez. in washington, house managers tifocles of impeachment today. they talked about the alleged abuse of power. >> they talked about how the presidents legal team responded. >> the president's conduct is wrong. it is illegal. it is dangerous. it captures the worst fears of our founders, and framers of the constitution. >> house manager started the second day of arguments with a history lesson about what our founders thought about impeachment. the managers focupower charge a president trump in the historic senate trial. president trump placed his personal political interests first. he place them above our national security, above our free and fair elections, and above the system of checks and balances. this conduct is not america first, it is donald trump first.>> reporter: using clips and sides, they laid out the case for why the president should be removed from office, arguing he pressured ukraine to investigate a political rival. they worked to debunk his reason for the investigation. these are allegations of wrongdoing, and the unfounded theory of ukrainian interference.>> common sense would tell us that this allegation against joe biden is false. there was no legitimate basis for any investigation. >> i know a lot about the trump family and their dealings in russia. i don't know anything about the biting connection to the ukraine. when the managers tell me, this has been looked at and debunked, by whom?>> reporter: they called joe biden as witnesses. the senate may vote to allow them. by rule, the president's defense team will not be able to offer a rebuttal until the managers are finished. outside the chambers, the president's personal attorney says this was not an impeachable offense. we are hearing the same things over and over. that is how they will do the case. we will put on a vigorous defense of fact and rebutting what they have said. our job is to defend the president, the office of the presidency, and the constitution. >> reporter: the president is back in the states. he did week at a private event tonight. in the newsroom, greg lee, ktvu fox2 news. we know the names of the three u.s. firefighters that died in a plane crash while battling the australian wildfires. they were from a crew base in california. did it live out of state. the plane operator identified them as capt. ian h. mcbeth, first officer paul clyde hudson, and flight engineer rick a. demorgan jr.. they were all military veterans. the c-130 water tanker that crashed is the same one seen in an event in sacramento county last august. it was part of an event with governor knew some and the former governor that highlighted the states new firefighting abilities. investigators in australia said the cargo plane was turned into an aerial tinker for a firefighting mission when it went down in southern australia. we are devastated. we think of their families. they are out here trying to help everybody out. >> there are many u.s. colleagues and had personal relationships with them. our hearts are with all of those suffering. this is a photo of the tanker last june. investigators say they were wind speeds gusting at 60 miles per hour. health officials say they are looking into potential cases of the coronavirus in alameda county. fewer than 10 people are affected. they all had a high fever cough. they had either traveled to wuhan, china, or interacted with someone who did. the doctors are sending samples to the cdc for testing. some cases have already been cleared. jonathan tells us that china has put 20 million people under quarantine to try to contain the virus.>> reporter: the chinese government imposed strict quarantine measures in two cities, similar to those in place at wuhan. the airport and train station are closed. >> for the moment, the world health organization does not require any broader restrictions on travel or trade. >> reporter: although the new outbreak has claimed at least 17 lives in china, the world health organization stopped short of declaring a global emergency. >> we know there is human to human transmission in china. for now, it appears limited to family groups, and health workers caring for the infected patients. at this time, there is no evidence of human to human transmission outside of china.>> reporter: major airports around the world have enhanced screening of passengers from china. >> as of now, there are 16 identified close contacts.>> reporter: washington state health officials are monitoring people exposed to a united states traveler that became ill after returning from china. >> he does appear to be doing well. we hope you will continue on his excellent clinical course. hopefully he can return home in the near future.>> reporter: coronavirus concerns prompted a middle school to cancel a visit by exchange students from central china. in a message to the families, the principal writes, while officials say transmission of the virus from the students is extremely low. we felt it necessary to make this adjustment.>> reporter: british media report five people with flulike symptoms were taken to the hospital. one in texas is undergoing a similar screening as percussion. in atlanta, fox news. dozens of treasure island residents, past and current, filed a class action lawsuit, seeking $2 billion in damages. according to the chronicle, the lawsuit says authorities lie to residents about the extent of radioactive and toxic contamination on the island. the legal action names the health department, the development authority on the island, and the united states navy, responsible for the pollution and cleanup. in addition to the money, this will halt all building on treasure island until it is independently verified to be safe and clean. nearly 100,000's of red wine spilled from a tank at a vineyard in sonoma county, leaking into the russian river. it was enough to fill a large tanker trucks. it did spell after a door near the bottom of the large blending tank popped open. the wine went into a drainage system on the property that feeds the creek, and the russian river. still ahead, a major break in a case involving dozens of projectiles launched at cars. the arrest made by the chp, sonoma county transforms a parking lot into a community for the homeless. how this could help clear up a controversy trail campground? a deadline is looming for hundreds of homeless campers living along a trail in santa rosa. the question is, where will they go? officials that it will clear encampments from the trail in one week. we are getting one option. this is a compound of tiny shelters. we have live coverage at the new village, that is quickly going up.>> reporter: this village is a collection of eight foot by eight foot pallet shelters. this will provide space for 60 people. it will offer privacy and safety, starting sunday, they will move in. this is using, but not curing the crisis.>> reporter: the construction is groundbreaking. sonoma county's first tiny home village for the homeless. >> having a housing unit that you can lock, and keep your things safe are necessary. >> reporter: this is storage for extra possessions, a dog run for pets, and the serenity of a state park next-door. this is an alternative to the trail, where 200 people are squattin stretch. >> this is onecritical piece in a suite of solutions. >> reporter: options whirl follow. people are complaining of theft, fire, drug use. they are demanding that the campers go. >> this is a step in the right direction. this will let people get stable and move on to permanent supportive or affordable housing. staying on the trails not an option. >> reporter: eviction signs are posted. they must vacate by january 29. some will happily take the tiny cabin. >> i do like it better inside. it is not so cold. you don't worry about your steppingstone.>> reporter: some complain that it is too far out of town even with shuttle buses. there are restrictions, including being sober. >> if they change a few of the rules, i will go. a 7:00 p.m. curfew, and no visitors, that is like being in jail. >> reporter: they ensure retirement community, sitting across the highway from the tiny homes will be safe. st. vincent depaul will run the village.>> it is a drop in the bucket. at least we are investing in homelessness now in a way we have not before. >> i have heard people say, i am tired, which go to rehab. >> reporter: for volunteers, the village is fine. it is inadequate, because more than 100 people still need someone to go in one weeks time. >> i don't understand, why not the fairgrounds? this is for when emergencies happen. these are human beings. sonoma county, x of kindness is a new facebook group, organizing volunteers, donations, and move in support for the homeless, bringing meals to the new village when it opens. the county teams will continue working the trail, trying to get people into shelters, hotels, or other services before next week's sweep. thank you deborah. an online tip led to the arrest of a child pornography suspect in san mateo county. they served a search warrant on 54-year-old, daniel wadleigh. they found 10,000, inappropriate images of children on his computer. they said none of the images appear to be of local children. he was arrested for possession of child pornography. chp announced a break in a case that baffled investigators for nearly a year. officers arrested a man, who they say was using a slingshot to launch projectiles of vehicles along highway 101, south of the bay area. drivers have been terrified, because those attacks kept happening.>> reporter: authorities say that this is the man that has been shattering car windows and terrorizing motorists over the last year. charles kenneth lafferty has been arrested in a string of projectile attacks. >> we felt it was only a matter of time before someone seriously got hurt. this is great news. >> reporter: the break in the case came after the 69th known incident. the projectile task force identified a suspicious vehicle, a gmc sonoma pickup truck. that led to search warrants, and the arrest of charles kenneth lafferty in san luis obispo county. >> we saw he had the means in the manner to carry out these attacks.>> reporter: authorities say he used a slingshot and glass marbles, launching them of the passing drivers on highway 101 and state route 156 near pruned ale. the vehicles were chosen at random. one of them is a school bus. five people were injured. the authorities say he was familiar with the area. >> we do believe one or two of the people worked here.>> reporter: there is no word on motive. >> now i am not afraid to go to the safeway or go down the road. that has been one of my concerns. >> reporter: he is being held on numerous unts, including throwing objects at a vehicle, so with a deadly weapon, and possession of a silencer. chp says more charges may be coming. the governor of oklahoma is striking back against california. the republican governor signed an executive order today, prohibiting oklahoma's state employees from traveling to california on nonessential business. this comes less than one year after california opposed a similar travel ban on oklahoma, which passed the law, allowing religious organizations to exclude same-sex couples from adoptions. the governor said, enough is enough. of california does not want public employees going to oklahoma, i am eager to return the gesture. let's take a look at the rain we had over the next couple of days. this help the rainfall totals. as i mentioned all month, we are behind schedule commissioned by the 49ers. the reason that he wanted it, and the hidden messages? a deadly crash involving robbery suspects. a home invasion, just minutes earlier, and the similarities to other cases in the bay area. a sewage bill forced the closure of a late. no swimming, fishing, or water contact until further notice. this happened late yesterday. visitors can walk around the lake. officials say you should not come in contact with the water. this video is of a similar spill last year. the park district is testing the water quality and will reopen the lake once the test showed a safe. down to san mateo where man has died following a car crash that was linked to a botched home invasion. two other suspects were hurt a fourth is under arrest, if it is on the loose. we spoke to witnesses about what happened. >> reporter: it was 3:45 in the morning when a resident called san mateo police zynga group of people were forcing their way inside of this heavily fortified home. there was a ferrari testarossa in the garage. >> the resident was able to sequester themselves in a safe place while officers responded. >> reporter: officers arrived when the invaders were taking off in two cars.>> reporter: my wife heard cars screeching off, bailey out of here. >> the people sped off in separate directions. one of the vehicles took off at a high speed over state route nima to 92.>> reporter: they called off the chase, the acura got away. the mazda crashed head on into a cement barrier on highway 101. a man in the backseat died. the male driver and a female passenger were taken to the hospital. back at the house, police say they found and arrested a the suspect hiding inside of it dodge charger parked outside. >> it sounds like the person was left of the scene for unknown reasons. >> were spotted in a basket on the roof of the house. neighbors say the home is been targeted before, and the resident owns a gun. the house has a metal door, bars on the windows, and surveillance cameras. >> we will figure out what the story is behind that. >> reporter: i did count on the fortified door. a short while later, a man open the garage door. his harare was parked inside. >> you cannot talk about what happened? are you okay? are you hurt? >> ohno. >> reporter: what happened? >> i cannot talk to you. >> this is not the norm around here. nothing is typically fortified. that is odd. >> reporter: the incident has similarities to a home invasion in san francisc in the garage and was robbed of a sizable amount of cash. the home invasions are a regional problem, so the police montgomery and west san fernando street, this massive mural honoring the 49er faithful is becoming quite the attraction. >> this is great, mural art. >> in san jose, we have a loyal 49er fan base. i am not surprised. i would not be surprised if i saw any of this anywhere around here. >> no matter what the team has been through, we have always stuck by them.>> reporter:, brightest part of a team of artists called the luminaries. he says the 49ers approach them last november to create the first ever mural in san jose.>> you always have to get a rough catch up there. the cause this wall is brick, it makes a de facto grid. >> is started as a sketch with chalk. this developed into a piece of art, 15 feet tall and 45 feet wide. >> we found a clever way to use our playfulness to be a backdrop. instead of covering everything, we just played around. we played with letters and words. >> reporter: inside of the reflective gold lettering, depending on how the light hits it, is that'll affect you can make up words like candlestick, and the catch. the mural sits on the back of the building, home to the world sports collectibles. they sell 49ers memorabilia. the unders is the mural has increased his shops visibility. >> there are pictures from all over the world here. people community pictures. >> reporter: the big mural dates back to 2012 in san francisco. since then, the group created murals throughout the bay area for the warriors and the oakland a's. they say this mural brings it back full circle. >> it's not about being faithful because we won or lost. it is about being faithful because we are bay area strong. we are united. >> the artist i spoke to, if they win the super bowl, the skies the limit. right now, they are grateful for the exposure. the hidden messages wednesday, the cars will be banned from a two mile stretch in the downtown area. the goal of the new restrictions is to improve math mass transit and pedestrian safety. >> reporter: sky fox caught an market street.>> reporter: a car freezone goes in for stewart street. on the eastbound side, the vehicles are banned from 10th to mainstreet. city officials estimate that 500,000 people walk markday. >> it is not fun to walk there now.>> reporter: there was a familiar standoff between those on foot and is behind the wheel, doing that delicate dance to the tune of who has the right-of-way? among them is a san francisco resident, aaron cox, his that she has heard of the changes, and she is eager to see them happen. >> when i come to work, i can walk in the street. >> she can't, but she will appear at vehicles to deal with. >> transit agencies, taxis, and commercial vehicles will be able to use this stretch. >> reporter: this focuses on pedestrian safety. this is a painted safety zone. there are eight of them across market street. the idea is to put a buffer between the people walking in this area and the cars. market street has had the same issues for more than 100 years. does 1906 video, the earliest known film, shows the road bustling with activity. aside from the cable cars and carriages, market street is as busy today as it ever was, with one exception. it is more dense, leading officials to make the change, clearing the streets of private cars to keep transit on time and pedestrian safe. they average over 100 serious collisions per year. we are trying to reduce conflicts with vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians.>> reporter: let's say you are here and you need to go across. you can do this. the rideshare cars are not allowed on market street at all. i am taking on juul. the claim against the electronic cigarette maker? san francisco's new district attorney has gone ahead and eliminated cash bail is a condition for a defendant's pretrial release. this move fulfills one of his key campaign pledges. instead of bail money, there will be a risk assessment determining whether someone goes free. the former public defender says he does believe the cash bail system unfairly affects the poor and people of color. >> the cash bail system, as it worked in san francisco, loud wealthy people who were dangerous, to purchase their freedom and be back on the street immediately. for people, who presented no public safety risk could languish behind bars. >> the police union strongly opposes his decision. it issued a statement, which says in part, he is in the process of building the largest criminal justice revolving door imaginable. san franciscans will pay a heavy price for. the campbell union high school district filed a lawsuit against juul. the lawsuit claims that juul helped cultivate and foster an epidemic that disrupts education and learning. the district lawsuit was filed on the same day as lawsuits filed by school districts in davis and chico. this follows similar lawsuits filed by more than half a dozen schools around the state peer new details about the mountain lion killed earlier this week in orange county after a 3-year-old boy was attacked. dna test confirmed that the mountain lion that was killed is the same animal to injure the child on monday. the boy suffered a bite to the neck and was treated at a hospital and released. the orange county sheriff department had to evacuate the wilderness park after that attack. they got permission to kill the lion. wells fargo ceo has been fined 17 1/2 million dollars for his role in the banks fake account scandal. federal regulators are suing five other former wells fargo executives for a total of $37 million. this is the first time that regulators have punished individual executives for the banks wrongdoing. wells fargo has already paid hundreds of millions of dollars in fines and penalties for encouraging employees to open up millions of fake accounts in order to meet aggressive sales goals. stocks were mostly higher with modest gains after a selloff in asia over the potential impact of the coronavirus. the dow was down 26, the nasdaq was up 18, and story. >> he started his life simply. he acquired knowledge throughout his life. his museum represents his past life. >> reporter: as they get ready to open the doors, there is sadness that he will next system will not get here until saturday night. tomorrow's the system has increasing clouds with a chance of afternoon sprinkles in the north bay. we then get into an on saturday night. it does
