What we know at this time is that the Dodge Charger entered in the northbound direction from manner drive and then collided with the mercedes suv. The driver of that Dodge Charger was pronounced dead at the scene. Thats an adult male age 25 to 35 years old. Then the passenger of the charger, a female also around that same age was transported to the hospital. The driver of the mercedes also an adult was injured but we dont know the extend of those injuries. Now all traffic from highway 1 down to manner going southbound is shut down. So youre taking a look at some video from a little bit earlier on this morning. Scanner traffic indicates that this may have been a wrongway collision. We have no estimated time of lanes reopening. The best way to get around it is either if youre a local you know how to use manner drive to get down the hill and you can also use sharp park road as you drive from skyline and if youre driving on 280 you can take westboro into sharp park. The rest of the peninsula is not so slow at all. But its not going to be a good driving day as we go and look at the east bay. Todays the day that if you can, you might want to use transit or work from home, avoid driving. The rain hasnt quite reached the bay bridge. When it does were not going to have commutes. Theres likely to be a backup because of people driving up the hill slowly and in bad weather this is not really great driving. This hill has always scared me going up in the area. When i go down this hill its White Knuckle time at any time of the day and even in good weather because theres some steep curves. This car entered the freeway heading up north and colliding with the vehicle heading down south. I will show you. This is a way you can get through. You can use sharp park road to get down to highway 1. If you dont want to go through highway 1. Now if you look at the rest of the peninsula it looks all right. Highway 101 and 280 look all right. East bay commute is fine. As the weathers going to move in, the rain is going to move in and were going to have slow traffic. You know, when it rains the commute gets slower and that always happens. I think a majority will miss it, sal, on the rain. The majority. Thats good. So that means that the rains going to be here at some point during the day. Well it will get here but not till 7 00, 8 00, 9 00 your time line does have us coming on shore but not for a little bit. Once we get to about 8 00, 9 00, 10 00 then it will be making its move. And there will be some decent rainfall on a strong rainfall rates here as the system slides through. Once it does, then the colder air will filter in. 3 4 to over 1 looks to be likely today. It happened at 3 00 this morning where a car was going the wrong way up the hill on highway 1 when it should have been going on the other side of the freeway. This is where it is. Southbound highway 1. We do have a reporter on the scene who has been gathering details and that is alyssa hair harrington. Right now they are still doing the investigation there, do you know how long its going to take for these lanes to open up . I just spoke with chp and they hope to have lanes back open within the hour. I did confirm that the wrong way driver was killed in this crash that happened just after 3 00 a. M. The coroner is now at the sooeven and tow trucks are here to remove these crushed vehicles. The deadly crash involved a Dodge Charger. The chp says the driver of the charger was traveling the wrong way driving northbound in the southbound lanes of highway 1 when he slammed into the mercedes headon. This happened just after 3 00 a. M. On highway 1 at manner drive. The driver of the charger was killed. He has only been identified as a man between the ages of 25 to 35. His passenger a female around that same age was badly injured and taken to the hospital. The driver of the mercedes was the only person in that car and was also hurt. All lanes of highway 1 are closed at skyway boulevard. So again, the chp hopes to have lanes back open shortly maybe within the hour. You can see just looking at the scene it looks like theres a lot of clean up that needs to be done. The commute in pacifica at this time in the morning is northbound for most people and right now here we are. Northbound traffic is going to be getting through and the best way to get through if you want to get down the hill is to use sharp park road into pacifica. Right now we do see that the traffic is doing okay on 280 and highway 101 heading down the peninsula and across the east bay looks good. Its going to be raining a little later in the commute. Although steve says it will be a little later. So people driving now wont have to deal with the wet weather. It should be kind of a tough xhult. Commute. This is a look at interstate 880 in oakland. This is highway 24 in lafayette. Not a lot going on weather wise. But it is windy out there. 5 40. Lets bring steve back in. Unless youre northward, but south, east no. But its on its way. It will get there. And theres some really strong gusts. Already heard from raymond up in casedero. A 1 2 to 2. Marin county can be sneaky on the rainfall sometimes but the delay will put it more towards 8 00, 9 00, 10 00. Its getting very close. You can see its making, theres some really. Look at those strong bans just off the marin coast. Some of those will pack a pretty good punch with some brief heavy rain as that cold front goes through. A roaring south southeast wind. Also up in the oakland Berkley Hills and even at the surface. Half moon bay also with gusts at 38 Miles Per Hour. Thats up a little bit and hayward 24. So theres pretty good gusts if you dont get the rain. That wind can kind of blow things around. Especially in the bridges. The wind is cranking up. The winter storm warning doesnt start until 6 00. It will probably get up there around 9 00, 10 00 more so. But theyll measure it in feet. Our system will get here. Its just moving two speeds slow and stop but eventually it will arrive and its going to give us rain in the morning into early afternoon and that will give us widely scattered showers and a possibility of some thundershowers. We are at 17th and shotwell in San Francisco. Its not raining but it is pretty windy. And here they are already preparing for the possibility of flooding this is set up and theyve put a number out on this sign out here to let people know if they need to get into their businesses to contact them. Its expected to be heavy and very windy conditions across the bay area. Its already gun in parts of the north bay. Theres also reports of rain falling in lake county right now. And it almost looks like hail coming down in some of that video a sign this is a very cold winter rainstorm. Now drivers during the morning commute can expect wintery conditions and it was very windy. We were in a high clearance vehicle. But we could definitely feel the wind gusts pushing our truck back and forth. Youre going to face windy conditions and once time is 5 47. And thats where its going to stay for awhile, sal. It will slowly work its way east and south. If you dont have the rain theres some pretty good gusts out there. It will be more of a wind event if you leave now than a snow event. But the winter storm warning does start at 6 00 a. M. The front it will be a very strong cold front. The frontal boundary will be the main rain producer. That has to go through. And then the cold or unstable air comes behind that possibility of thundershowers.
