Lets take you out to interstate 80 at the berkeley curve. Because all lanes are blocked in that direction. And you have a alert in place. This happened about 6 30 this morning. A couple of cars involved in the one police got on the scene about 10 minutes later, the issue the alert saying all lanes are blocked due to the collision. Again, this is eastbound 80 at the berkeley curve. There is some damage, about 10 feet of damage on the guardrail. On the right hand shoulder and they are requesting the tow trucks come out to try to clean this up. That will affect people trying to get off of that direction. We will keep an eye on the situation for you and keep you updated here on mornings on 2. We also have developing news in San Francisco this morning. The visitation valley neighborhood where it appears someone was hit and killed by a muni train. Elissa harrington live at bayshore bullington where the body was found. Alyssa, what can you tell us . Reporter police were on scene for hours. In fact, they just let. But only moments ago they were walking those trucks right behind me by the muni shelter. What we know this morning is that police are investigating because they say that the driver of this muni did not stop after hitting the pedestrian. We also saw officials walking on the tracks taking pictures and measurements. They say they will review video from inside of the train to try to find out why that driver did not stop and see if the driver reacted at all after the train struck that person. This happened just before 2 am. So, it was dark out. But this intersection is actually pretty well lit. The muni car was taken to the railyard where it is being looked at. Police were seen there as well. We dont know who the victim was this morning. But again, investigators and officials were out here for several hours. They are also cleaning up the tracks. We dont know how this is impacting muni service. Try to get that information but i am not seeing any sort of delays or cancellations now that the scene is clear. Body was found on the muni tracks in the visitation valley early this morning. Mornings on 2s ktvus Alyssa Harrington joins us with the railyard. What police know so far and what they are doing this morning to learn more about what happened. Good morning. Reporter good morning. That train car was taken hereto the muni station on cesar chavez. Whats interesting about this is police say that they found that body on the rail tracks, so the driver of the muni did not stop. Maybe did not realize that they actually hit a person, so they will be investigating exactly what happened and that that driver reacted at all after hitting that person. They will review video from inside of the train. This all happened just before 2 am when it was dark out, but the intersection where it happened on bayshore and sunnydale is well lit. Officials remained at the scene for hours, taking pictures and measurements. We also saw them walking the tracks. The scene was finally cleared just before 7 am. Now, at this time, we dont know the identity of the person who was killed, or the identity of the driver. But again, police continuing to investigate. Wedgewood properties, the company that owns that home on magnolia street is now offering to pay to house the womens group for the next two months. Wedgewood Officials Say that will give mothers and their children time to find a new place to live. Last week in Alameda County judge ruled that the women have no right to stay in the house and ordered them to leave the for this wednesday. The Mothers Group reacted to the offer from redwood saying it is deeply disingenuous for this multimillion Dollar Corporation through the multimillion dollar Public Relations firm to pretend to be concerned about the wellbeing of black families. Their offer is an insult. The mothers also say they will not leave the home voluntarily, and are willing to be arrested. Time now is 7 32. Officials say santa rosa are investigating the fire that killed three dogs. The fire broke out just before 3 00 on saturday morning at a home on daniel ct. Near campbell drive. Fire crews said they initially had a difficult time finding the source of the smoke because of the thick fog. The resident was not home at the time. The cause of that fire, still under investigation. And the dmv office in santa rosa will be closing for renovations beginning this week. Closure will begin friday, january 17. That new time, and last until april 1. Officials say the improvements include replacing the floors, furniture and the airconditioning system in the building. Temporary dmv office will open up monday joe mooney january 2 at garrett hall on the Sonoma County fairgrounds. A memorial has been unveiled honoring robert franks. A statue and plaque bearing the fallen officers name now sits at the new havana dog park in old foothills farms. The 21 year veteran of the department was killed during a shootout in 2017. Fellow deputies, friends and family attended that ceremony to remember deputy frank. Tears of happiness to just know that people are still remembering him and want to have a permanent place for people to come to remember him in the public. Deputy frank was 62 years old. He lapine three adult children, grandchildren, sister and girlfriend. Disaster specialists from california are headed to the earthquake rapids puerto rico. Bloomberg says he is willing to spend 1 billion of his own money on either his campaign or president ial campaign of the eventual democratic nominee. He has already spent 200 million. He is polling at 1 in iowa, even though he has not been actively campaigning there. Bloomberg says he wants to concentrate on texas and other states that he believes are no longer republican strongholds. Beto showed a democrat can win texas. We will finally turn texas blue. Police were called to bayshore boulevard in sunnyvale wrote about one a clock this morning and when they arrived, they discovered that the person had already died. The train involved was taken to the muni railyard and police are going to look at video from the camera inside the train. You are looking at the end of january, certainly by groundhog day, super bowl sunday, this is likely to have been wrapped up. And Mitch Mcconnell will spearhead that, if you will, in terms of putting things forward. So, you would look for by the end of january, groundhog day, february 1, somewhere around that time. This is all wrapped up on the senate side. By the way, there is a president ial race, right . Thats right. There is a president ial race. With thats looming in the background. We got 6 democrats about to take the stage in iowa on tuesday night. Biden, buttigieg, char, stier, and warren. Make or break for who . In that regard come tuesday . Someone like andrew yang, who is not on the debate stage. Certainly that is make or break for him. We have to see what is going to go on really between sanders and warren on the left. Both of those candidates, we are seeing a tie in iowa right now. An iowa really is a place where joe biden has to do well. He expects to do okay in New Hampshire. And roll into some of those early states like nevada and South Carolina that come next. But as democrats battle on the left, that will be an important component because iowa voters tend to be quite volatile. In this caucus environment. And there are a lot fewer caucuses. This whole election season. So, tuesday is make or break, really for those left candidates that as mayor petes deceased a standard or does he get more aggressive . Finally, Michael Bloomberg is not on that stage and has not spent a die a day in iowa. Course late to the race. What you think of his strategy . He is campaigning in texas, trying to turn the state blue right now. If you look at bloomberg and tom speier, they are what all the other democrats have done particularly in iowa and particularly, if you just turned on the television, you will see bloomberg as, for example and more and more stier as. Bloomberg is hoping that the democratic race days essentially in a place where there is not a front runner into multiple races into march. And that allows him to catapult forward. They say there are far more immigration cases waiting to be heard than there are judges able to handle them. Right now, Immigration Judges have a backlog of nearly 1 million pending cases. Judges can sometimes be assigned to as many as 100 in an eight hour day. Including asylum, legal status request, along with deportation orders. When i left the bench, there were just over 200 judges. That was in 2015. Thanks to the efforts of the trump administration, there are now 465 Immigration Judges that we have seen the number of Immigration Judges double. But what we really need is upwards of 700 Immigration Judges. The department of justice says it does plan to put more Immigration Judges on the benches this year, hoping to get cases through the court rooms faster.
