To give us more insight, we are joined by ktvu legal analyst. Michael, thanks for coming in. What you see unfold on that footage is quite disturbing to see. What were your impressions when you watched this video. What were the mistakes you think that deputy made . We werent there. So to say, what mistakes he made, im not sure. It certainly does look violent. This was a man whose car was stolen. He doesnt report back that i founded and police started to pull what they think was a stolen car. There was some sort of facies. To look back in this and sake, he shouldnt have done that, were not in that situation. With the emotion of the chase where they might be killed. But, they should be trained enough to turn off the emotion went this person apparently had physical problems out of this car. He has to keep the confidence of the deputies that work for him to do the right thing for the public. I think it was the right thing when he was the video out. He said i looked at it, were going to terminate you in the future. Reporter it is far from being finished. Are you surprised that the sheriff already comes out today entasis i intend to fire this deputy. It doesnt surprise me because he is sending message to other debbie descended upon the. They are going to be transparent. Up on looking at this, he decided, im going to give you a notice of termination. He can always refers that. Remember, it is just a notice of termination. Not absolutely going to fire you. If that to look at what happens at the end of the investigation. Like i said, cops have a tough job. We are expecting them to turn off their emotions. But in this case, i look at this angle, my lord, what are you doing . Keep in mind, it is a stolen car. It was a car reported stolen obviously been driving by the right owner. They obviously dont know until after the fact. How much do you think that mixup with the stolen car being found by its rightful owner, how much did the mixup played into the sheriffs decision to fire the deputy . Was it simply because of the body camera . Im sure it has some effect on it. Really shouldnt. The shares dont know that the rightful owners driving the car. s they have to chase him. Police get very upset if you make them the do highspeed. Was this highspeed . They shouldve dont it down. Banging his head like that . Come on. With the stuck with the family of the man who died. What sort of legal action do you expect from them . I am sure they would bring a wrongful death action against the deputy and Sheriffs Department. And most attorneys, its if they sue the Sheriffs Department but if you sue that deputy individual, it is a really interesting situation because the deputy then go to the attorney. And the deputy starts telling the sheriff, get it settled. You give them your money not mine. It is an interesting thing. Whatever an attorney gets this, he is going to sue him individually which then puts him sort of in an adversarial position with the Sheriffs Department. Hes going to be interesting to see. But i like what the sheriff did in this particular case, look, shouldnt have done that even though there was a case. That was excessive in their opinion. He certainly took swift action. We have delivered there. Legal analyst, michael, thank you. If you would like to learn more see the complete video we sure did here, have it all on our website, you can had to our homepage, ktvu. I knew you had a very busy night. How did you feel like they all came across and that debate space, last night . Reporter first off, i like you using esteemed host. I think it was one of the best debate for each one of them. Each one of the candidates had strong moments last night. No one in particular had a particularly get that would change things too much. I think it was a pretty strong night for andrew yang. It is interesting to see mayor pete right in the middle of that firestorm over that so called white cave in napa. Afterwards, i spoke with governor gavin newsom in the spin room, he said, look, i fundraising deadline gave. There were hundred politicians in the bay area that had been there to fund raise there as well. So, it was sort of a contrasting of everybody trying to stake out their claim. Another california politician from the bay area machine that many going with that blend of attack, not the best thing to do. Should focus on donald trump. So, we would see if this shakes things up. I think that what is interesting is that californias, the Biggest Issue in our state is homelessness. Biggest issue in los angeles, not a single question asked about the homelessness in the one debate in california. That was a bit frustrating. I think that was a huge mist of opportunity by the moderators. And if of them could have stepped up and race issues will. But they chose not to do so. Of say, we tend to focus a lot on the site being backand forth. But, did you feel like what it was all said and done, we did get down into some policy, positions here and did you see the candidates sort of tearing themselves apart. Reporter interestingly, because the first hour of the debate, it is very much like a pbs debate. Also simulcast on cnn in the second hour of the debate that much more like a cnn debate. Thats when political started asking questions. You know, this is a big fight. Were at Elizabeth Warren. Shes saying that you need structural revolutionary change of the Democratic Party in the last 40 years is not enough. We need to go farther. He is making the similar arguments. Joe biden sort of in the middle of the party and then you get Pete Buttigieg, naming that he falls in the middle of the party so they can then take the place. Udc when you start going on with issues like medicare for all, in terms of where does the Democratic Party go to the left or offer. Fullsize are sniping at each other for that issue. Lets talk about the other huge story of the week here. Not sure if folks remember what earlier this week, the house impeached President Trump. And you had a chance to talk with House Intelligence Committee chairman adam schiff who obviously helped democrats will layout the case for impeachment. What did he have to say about that historic vote, less than. Reporter adam schiff is not only the chairman during the impeachment debate which we went for eight hours. He was also in charge of managing that. He was funny the time of who is gonna get also has the responsibility of putting rebutting. He gave the final arguments for the entire Democratic Party. So, this week, i talked to him about that moment. Here is what he had to say. At times at that, you feel the weight of history. You feel the burden of taking a step that has been taken seldom in our nations history. And the possibilities that come with it. My conclusion was much like one of the scholars to testify, is just the conduct of this president withholding and military aid for hundreds of millions of dollars to an alley at were read Russian Energy to get help mentioning the next election. That is not impeachable, thing is. The decision itself wasnt difficult, given the facts. Nonetheless, you feel the real weight of. So, now the big question is what happens next . The senate is supposed to get this issue for. Speaker pelosi hasnt done that yet. Theres a negotiation underway trying to determine if the senate is going to hear witnesses or not. Adam schiff could be called is one of those witnesses. Adam schiff suggesting that the process shouldnt take too long. He is thinking that the senate should get this kind of sooner rather than later. This will suffice going on right now. We could of course have that impeachment trial in january. One more note interesting, i asked about the democratic president ial candidate voted president on impeachment. The only member who voted present. He said that was a couple that he doesnt understand how you could do that as it was against the oath of office. All right, alex we had to leave the conversation up there. Should tell everyone that the issue is this. You have just heard alex talk about it. Much talk about one gives.
