Investigators say that an officer mistook a mans umbrella for a rifle. Our Crime Reporter henry lee is at the police didnt with an update on this investigation. Henry . Well, alex and heather, police say this man was not armed with a gun but acted as though he was, brain dish requesting bran dishing shooting noises. It happened on saturday afternoon, in wet weather. Many sid citizens called police, saying that a man was pointing a gun. We received seven calls for service. People were concerned about his behavior of how he was bran dishing about how he was brandtishing a gun. They said he was making sounds. The fact that either boom, boom, bang, bang or gulf coast an officer found the man on street just outside of the stros city lines. Thats when the police say he brandtished when the officer thought was a rifle at him. He fired three shots from his ar15 rifle. None of which hit the man. The suspect took off, caught up, tackled this man, 24year old joshua aisleiguera. Batteries, brandishing an imitation gun. Based on how it was branded on the vehicles, the fact that he recoiled the umbrella ya, the fact that he officer has le two years on the force. Now, the name of the officer who fired his rifle has not yet been released. The suspect is due in court tomorrow. Live in the Santa Rosa Police department, henry lee, ktvu. Tempers flared yet again on capitol hill during the latest hearing and the impeachment inquiry. Democrats and republicans clashing as the house moves towards articles of impeachment. Greg lee joins us now with some fireworks we saw on capitol hill today. Contentious is an understatement. This hearing wrapped up after nearly ten hours. Several heated exchanges as lawyers from both sides summarized much of what we heard. Democrats believe there is overwhelming evidence that President Trump put himself before the country and the argument that this is an unfair rushed process in a politically motivated attack. Fight between democrats and republicans during the impeachment inquiry continued during the latest house judiciary. We have toville decorum and you have your rules of dequorum. I would say that sharp cross examination of a witness is not badgering the witness. There were arguments over proceda protester. Lawyers for regional president cans and democrats squared off, presenting their evidence to the committee and the American People about whether or not to impeach President Trump. Democratic lawyers cited two weeks of public testimony in part as a proof they say the president leveraged the white house neating and military aid to pressure ukraine to investigates joe and hunter biden. The lead republican counsel says its all hearsay and presumption. To impeach a president who 63 Million People voted for over eight lines in a call transcript is baloney. A bruise of pucks betrayal of the national interest, corruption of elections . And what is so tracks ordinary is the conduct that were going to be talking about today of President Trump didnt violate one of these but all three. This comes days after House Speaker pelosi publicly directed the drafting of articles of impeachment. President trumps persistent and continued effort to coerce a foreign country to help him cheat and win the election is and present and clear danger to our elections. Republicans say this is partisan and part of the obsession with impeaching President Trump, they say, started the day before he was elected. They cant get over the fact donald trump is president of the United States and the fact nobody can beat him. The constitution calls for the thousands run the i am people process and not much else, meaning there is no requirements on how hearings are run. He says if the house votes to impeach, expect a very different process in the gop controlled senate for the trial for several reasons. Its the senates job to sit in judgment of those charges to see if the evidence does, in fact, substantiate the charms that are brought. The procedures are intended to do wholy separate things. The president s counsel were invited to participate today. They declined. The president has been tweeting, though, saying, read the transcripts and calling the democrats a disgrace. A lot of frustration from lawmakers and attorneys on both students during this hearing today. What do you think each side accomplished after today . This is kind of like opening arguments as we move towards articles of impeachment. This was both sides trying to make their cases. It is clear that each side has different ideas of what facts are important. The republicans are saying that aid was released and thats the important fact to them. Democrats say we have interviewed all of these witnesses and we have proven that in our eyes, the president committed an impeachable crime. The hearings today has focused mostly on ukraine. What do you think are happen, will they expand to within russia . There were some inclusions of perhaps the Mueller Report and obstruction. They are looking at abuse of power and obstruction but thats the breadth of that. As weep only heard about ukraine today, thats the singular purpose . S the articles of impeachment are being drafted as we speak. We have yet to see how many are drafted and what though the or thelies will be. In the meantime, greg, is any of that what is playing out in washington, is it changing any opinions out there in america . I think the thing that i want to stay today is fatigue. The American People watching on end of this are fatigued about the hours of testimony. Even though it is so vitally important to the republic, no matter what side you are on. The polls that we are seeing was about 47 of americans supported impeachment. Right now, several weeks later, were still at the same place, so if anything, as you can see on capitol hill, you are seeing it in the american public. People are digging their heels in and have already made their mind about where they stand on this. Looking ahead of whats next, we know that full house will begin debating soon as well. The timeline of this, based on what democrats are saying is that, by the end of the week, likely well see articles of impeachment and the house judiciary will vote on which one. The next week, before the christmas break, the full house, like you said, is likely to take a vote and you only need a majority on any one of those articles to officially impeach the president. Then january, everybody has cleared their calendars for what will be likely a very Contentious Senate trial in the senate that is led by the gop. Its going to look a lot different once it goes to the senate. Greg lee, always appreciate it. Thank you. In los angeles, christina coalman, fox news. Now to the latest on that deadly volcanic eruption in new zealand. Authorities now say that five people are confirmed dead. In april, four are missing after a volcano at wyatt island suddenly erupted. Some were working along the rim of the crater. An engineer from San Francisco posted these images of the eruption. Michael shade said that he and his family had just left the area about 20 minutes earlier. For more on that volcano, we are joined by a volcanologist from the university of auckland. So you are familiar with this. This was a super pool of super heated water in the shallow part of the volcano and that burst and that cause that had rapid expansion and huge explosion. And that is something that we would expect from this volcano. They dont happen very often, every ten years or so but thats the sort of thing that does occur. Just the worst case example when there were a lot of people close to the crater when that happened. That was going to be something that people are wondering, professor, if, in fact, this is one of the most active volcanos, why are tourists permitted, allowed to go to the area . Yeah, everything in life brings a little bit of risk. When we explore the world the excited areas of the world, there are some risks. This is and an active volcano. Most people can get close to it. Most times, it he can citing and beautiful. Seismic or any warning, it exploded. You mentioned that there was nothing there were no warning signs here. Is this volcano monitored . Yes, there are seismic, it was information, we look at the ground information. So what we know is that a few weeks ago, the level of the gas rose and the seismic level rose but it does this all the time. There have been hundreds of times when the seismic gas has vies en in similar ways and has not led to an explosion. We have had circumstances. We had a really unstable situation now where we have this material thats blasted out and its hauling back into the crater and all that system below is still trying to vent gas. So whats happening now is that authorities are to figure out, okay, when it safe to send in some responders to go and find the other people that are thought to be affected by the event. What about this volcano . When was the last time there was an eruption like this. There was a reasonable seismic one about 2012 and there was another one that i actually witnessed on this volcano with a group of people. We were lucky enough just to be at the edge of thevolcano in 1992 when i was a young student. And same explosion devastated the outer part of the island and we were lucky to be out of range and we saw the particles falling back. Back in the late 1970s through 80s, there was much more regular in its eruptions. Its been quite quiet in comparison in the last decade or so. You mentioned First Responders. What has been the immediate after math . Are there still signs of activity now . Yes, there are still signs of activity, still quite a bit of steaming and bubbling going on. Thats because a lot of that material shoots back up and goes back. It there are drones being flown across the area. Some flights are being thrown to measure how much gas. Thevolcanologists and along with police are trying to deright if its safe to go back in, any people left behind. Theyve confirmed through series of other flights and drone flights whether there are people that need to be rescuing or there doesnt seem to be signs of movement. Which, sadly, means that death toll to rise. Thank you, shane cronin. At 5 00, the come continues. Well talk to the bay area man who was on that cruise ship. Thats why bug crowd, a San Francisco is trying to address the concerns. What do you think are the biggest threats to the 2020 election . Yes, certainly. Tip stage, i think that overall confidence that the average voter has on the election process is the biggest threat. 2016, there has been a lot of conversation around the role that cyber has to play in peoples ability to intefere with this type of thing. And, you know, folks are nervous about it even though not all understand what that means. The fear of, you know, lack of integrity in the process is the biggest threat. How is bug crowd Election Security campaign aiming to address some of those concerns about election securedy . Yeah, for sure. What bug crowd is is essentially a really large community, hundreds of thousands of ethical hackers from around the world and we build a platform from the customers Like Department of it defense, netflix, malls kerr cad and so on competing to find ways to break into the system. The goal is to figure out a way to have it fixed. Lets talk first about Cyber Attacks on actual election system, on Government Computers being used to tally up the votes here coming up in 2020. How vulnerable are election systems across the country in general. That was a really good call out, too. There were a lot of conversations around the country the eco system around election is bigger than. That in terms of what we have seen, the kind of vulnerable that we have seen on the hardware side is no different than what you see in most other organizations, Outdated Software and physical control and things like that. When you are talking about the websites and the other systems that are ems, it is a similar s it is, you know, coding issues. The Voting System has modernized, meaning computers have been involved in every step of the process, a double edged sword . Absolutely. The thing that is different about this particular issue is that it is so pervasive and so complete in its impact on the population. Thats why we are doing our thing to help out. What is being done to harden our election systems across the country as we move towards 2020 . Certainly. Yes. There has been a lot of work thats going to on, leading up to 2020 and work that is continuing. We have been doing some good stuff with creating policies. The secondary benefit of that is the idea of Neighborhood Watch for the internet. Average person can understand. Its not a highly technical technical couldnt sent. Goes some way to the confidence issue. Last as we wrap up here, we are also concerned, still, about foreign interference, foreign entities spreading disinformation as we head toward 2020. A lot has been made about changes to facebook and other social media platforms making to try to combat the disinformation campaigns. Have they, you know, have we gotten any better at dealing with this issue . A lot of work has been put into it. I do feel that we have improved. Ultimately, the responsibility, as it relates to election is on the person. A lot of work is going into it right now. If you want to do that, you should not let anything else stop you. We have to leave the covering there. Casey ellis from bug crowd, really appreciate your time effort. Heather . Thank you very much, gentlemen. Lets turn to the information to the weather. A look at the cloud cover outside. We have along the coast line, inside the bay, the peninsula, over to the north bay, as we get through the evening hours, clouds will continue to pull through and fully help to prevent a little bit of that fog forming in the morning. I do expect well have some fog, hopefully not as widespread, not as dense as what we saw this morning. Here is a look at the system that will bring us a slight chance at a few scattered showers getting into tuesday nights wednesday morning. Here is the future cast.
