See behind me with the system as it rolls through over the last 12 hours, and you still have showers popping out today as we go throughout our day today. You got the ponding water, and you can see showers rolling in particularly through the east bay, and you can see from freemont to sanford bay, and as well down here. And we have a little bit of snow too. You saw that in hamilton getting a little bit of snow. These are impressive totals, and 7 inches, and we have it in rosa, and an inch over the valley, and a half inch in napa and the bay as well. This will go throughout the day, and squun and well start to see some clearing and it was chilly out there and winds nice and calm. Well talk about how long it lasts when i come back. Well head over to ally for there road. This could be quleeurd that heavy, heavy rainfall, and sometimes 2 hours to oakland. And this morning, we have problems, and most of them involving roadways and also some spinout crashes. This is the news, west bound highway 24, just past the creek, and you see it here in this picture. It might be lighter volume on this stretch of roadway and merge over to 24 because of that crash this is weather in San Francisco. This looks good. If you are taking this to San Francisco, its a flooding problem. It has been resolved. It will be back to normpal. 7 02. Lets go back to the desk. All right. Rain, snow, gusty winds causing problems around the bay area. Pictures like this, and rain in San Francisco, pounding rain, and even flooding. Late last night, this is what it looked like. The heavy rain over flooded the storm drains and shot water into the air. The heavy rain caused problems on highway 101 near the 80 split. This is just incredible. The downpour created expanding water on that very busy highway and very dangerous situation. And they say the weather can cause a lot of problem. But people said the colder temperatures and storms to pass through, they can feel more like the holidays now. Winter again. I just love it. It cleans everything out and feels pretty and makes everything so fresh. I love the rain. Its not hurting anybody, so hey. Whats the rain going to do . Were not sure there. So rain can cause problems on the road, chp. It ensures safety reminders for everyone out driving in the rain. The biggest concern is people slowing down, and right now, the roads are extra slick, and we just want people to back off, and be kind to each other right now because its tough. Good news for the water supply, but its coming with the danger of flash flooding particularly in the con fire burp zones. They have been working on the closure control, and theyre keeping busy setting up barriers and shutting debris out of local streams. Were taking precautions. At one point, more than 30,000 pg e customers were without electricity. The numbers are going down. The latest numbers, we just check, it is still several Power Outages, but most are up in santa rosa county. The big outages are in richmond, occi. Dental and sebastopol. And it follows the power outage that caused a travel nightmare for thousands of people. We are live in oak lchbd airport. People arrived, but their luggage was left behind. Land airport. From elevators to escalators that stopped moving, the checkpoint came to a standstill. And lines were extremely long, and frustrated travelers trying to meet family for the holidays had to wait hours for the power to return. Its a delay. It is what it is. The power was all right out, and then weve actually been able to check in my bag and notification. So im going to go have to pick up my bag again and go all the way back to the city. Reporter the power wept off at 6 45 last night. It was fully restored 3 and a half hours later around 10 10. Now, the generators started to restore lights, and some lights wept on back before then. But it fully restored at 10 10. They say they cant see if the power was caused by equipment. You see a traveler getting his bag back. Today is the most busy at the airport, and they also had to rebook. If youre traveling out of oak happened, you might want to give yourself extra time. Ktvu, fox 2 news. And it wasnt a power outage but a were test due to the holiday chaos. Yesterday dozens of airport work workers went outside and inside, and the catering workers demanded better pay and health benefits. But here in the bay area, we start showers to deal with, and along the coast, and freemont and san jos erk, and heavy downpours this evening, and also slow showing up, and you can see the white surrounded by tape on the map. And its about 39 minutes, and as we move toot center of the country, we have a weather system from the midwest causing delays in minneapolis, and reports over an hour, an hour and 19 minutes now due to ice and snow. For us though, we will be soggy today as we see our scattered showers and chance of a thunderstorm, and system frump tonight in the night, and thanksgiving looks to be very chilly. Finally an explosion in texas, and injured three workers and blew out windows miles away. It happened overnight at the tpc plant in the rural part of southeast texas. It lit up the sky and forced evacuations within a half mile of that plant. They retreated, and the cause of the explosion is under investigation. Fire crews are hoping today to battle the fire burning in the hills of Santa Barbara. Its concerns that the rain could cause mudslides, and they issue addebris slow for neighborhoods below the board area area. The fire is 10 contained after burning through 4,000 acres. No injuries have been reported and no homes have been destroyed. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The time is 7 16. Today is one of the busiest days of the travel season. And theres some dangerous conditions, but it is nothing compared to what being done up in tahoe this morning. You can see the wind and rain there and show coming down. A lot of people tried, and a storm ended up, and its a lot of traffic accidents. Youre talking upwards of 50 yesterday, and thp responding to it, and they had to shut down part of 80 on and off. You can delay it a day, day and a half, 2 days because its just going to come up here and get stuck with everyone else. Reporter so here you look at the actual interstate, and they shut down 80 west bound, and 20 to the junction, and they closed the conjunction that way as well. And well talk about it, so that means wet roads, driving conditions, be patient because a lot of drivers will be on the road especially between the hours of 2 and 4. That is the peak travel time for the bay area happening with the Holiday Travel season. So its going to be so much traffic. You might want to get a jumpstart on it. I assume a lot of people will try to hit the road in noon hours. Be patient, and they are expecting this to be the record setting day for traffic on the road and also in the air. Ktvu, fox 2 news. All right. 7 19. The lake tahoe ski resorts happy to receive fresh snow, and heavenly is open today. Many resorts will be onen this week for the ski saep. Heavenly has been work nonstop to clear the lines and get the snow ready, and the north ski resorts are expected to open this friday. And it will pee a long day for South Lake Tahoe working 12 12 shift to clear the highways for drivers. If youre in the area, make sure you just move over, and let them get through and do their job. It is east bound 84, and east bound direction, if you push it to the university, its lost because of the crash, and delays west bound, and theres a single vehicle collision that has backed things up all the way back up to 880. And the one problem this part of east bay has been, excuse me, west bound highway 24 just past walnut creek in Pleasant Hill, and it will take you 18 minutes, and this has been a good commute from the morning, and they usually drive this way and have the day off, so we dont see that typical morning commute there, and south bound light compared to what we see on a regular wednesday, and we want to mention south bound 80 at the avenue, and theres a vehicle blocking, and hov lane, praebl possibly wn of the spinout crashes, one of many weve seen throughout the day, and were here to tell you about the weather conditions and things we will have to be aware of. It is still a heavy presence test test test building. The fire reportedly started on the 14th floor, and smoke spread to the floors above it. People were treated for minor injuries. Fire crews are still working to learn how the fire started. A mother says she is still here, and an argument happened between her son and a door dash driver. It happened when he was home alone. They say the door dash driver sent a series of Text Messages. After one message, he asked if he lived alone, and she invites the boy to join him on deliveries. The mother says the driver really crossed the line with a message. When he came out with the hotel, why do you need my son, a minor at a hotel for 40 minutes. I cant think about what his intentions were. Investigators are trying to determine if the driver knew the boy was a minor which would make the Text Exchange a criminal offense. This is un, and sonoma california, and now moved down to Southern California, and so this is where the showers are this morning, and they are scattered in variety and out and about and complicating wet roads out there. So if youre heading on 680 to free maupt, youre dealing with that. Notice the white and mink. And they smoked hundreds of turkeys together in preparation for this banquet. The celebrity chef joined in and helped out. We tried to view a turkey he smoked. So people coming in Sonoma County today are in for a treat. But this banquet isnt just about the food. Theres some that are coming because theyre experiencing it themselves, and others on the receiving end that will come out and maybe carrying out shame with them. And we want you to know a community loves you. And it shows people that they are loved. There are still tricky drivers because of weather, and we had a lot of reports of thinner crashes. West of Pleasant Hill road, its a new report of a collision there, and in addition to an area crash that has been cleared. If you will look closer, you will see the flooding icon there, thats because its flooding on the avenue right before you exit on highway 24. And this has been one of the easier commutes of the morning. Timcally in the week day, we see traffic on west bound 80 but not so this morning. That commute is perfectly clear, and that crash on 24 is just before this live picture here, once you get past it and drive all the way through, and cut the tunnel, and its pretty heavy traffic, and thats because it has been a lot of problems with thinout crashes there. 7 40. Lets send it over. We have a clear start to the day. That is clear along with showers out there. If you take a look, its 40 degrees, and also about 40 40 degrees, and 45 in in the valley if we head down to the east bay. You can see rain out there this morning, and 42 in dublin, and 43 in concord, and lets head down to the south bay, 43, and 43, and weve been hanging on to 30s, in scots valley, about 38 degrees. So cool start. This is the last 12 hours, and the system roared in dumping in all that rain, and you move down to southern and central california, and at this hour, you see 14, and peninsula, and over on east bay too and down in san jose where you see some of the heavier showers, and orange popping up there. We have a 39minute arrival, and we are looking good in oakland and san jose airports. And also weather happening in central part of the country, also chicago and down the east and east coast, and that is cause agfew delays. We have one right now that is in minneapolis, and about a 40 minute delay in chicago, and down to atlanta are looking okay at this hour. Again, this is outside of the frame where earlier crashes we mentioned and following that big rig and traffic here look goods in both directions heading into the city. Highway 24, a couple of issues weve bun talking about the last half hour or so, from west bound 24 to Pleasant Hill. It we have the maps . No. Maybe we can go to the traffic cameras, so we can show you east bound 80, and it will take you 18 minutes. This has been one of the good commutes for most of the morning. No major issues there. 8 in oakland, and before the 80s, this is good as well. There are problems that have been resolved with Flooding Issues, and theyre being courted out of the bay, and theyre experience ag10minute delay getting from the east bay over to fsa, and it is no lock longer trains through the airport and tomorrow bart and emergency transports will be on hoold schedule. The north bay is doing pretty well. However, we have some of the scattered showers in the south bay and east bay. You can take a look here since youre driving as she mentioned on 85 or 280, and Mountain View, and its right on the map, and that intickets a little snow. And this is the bigger picture. All of that transferred down to Southern California, that action there, and bringing a heavier snow, and the scattered showers are throughout the day today and produced in the last 24 hours, an impressive total. Rain, wind and snow cause lg types of problems out there. It brought lot of rain to San Francisco. This is what it looked like last night, and the rain will unload a number of storm drains, and the rain also causing problems on highway 101 and the 80 split, and the downpour created standing water forcing vehicle tuesday slow down in the area. And they say the plans were put in place not long after the fire burned 77 ,000 acres and destroyed 174 homes. Last night, the International Airport lost power leading to delays and cancellations. They say the power has been restored and flights back on schedule. Some say problems per cyst. We are live at the airport where people are trying to still be reunited with their luggage. Thats right. The power wouldnt out and a lot of people could not get their bags behind me. Hundreds of suitcases, people from luggage, and they traveled from united, and what happened theyre checking in with a southwest worker. We are from the southwest baggage claim. You have to show you ticket and id, and then theyll let you through. And they have organized it by flight number to make it easier. I did get a chance to speak with a few people who could not get their bags last noget. They talked no about how it impacted their travel plans. We came in from atlanta, and its ectepding rain, and everyone went uhoh, and it was clear we were going to take a long time. Monitors were off and everything silent, and we were going to my sisters house. I got off the plane, after 6, a little after 6, and then as i was walking to the baggage claim, the power went out. Sobait time i got here, the emergency power was back on, but it wasnt working. And so waited for maybe half an hour. And then i decided to go home. Reporter the power out nl could not have come at a worst time with already extremely biy inside the airport for thousands of people heading in and out of town for thanksgiving holiday. What happened at 6 45, lights went out. This happened during a storm. It was several out nls reported cross the bay area. Flight were delayed and at least 8 flights were canceled, and passengers stranded, and some spnt the night at the aeroport. Pg e powers the airport and says it cant confirm if it was caused by itequipment. Many of the travelers who had Flights Canceled will be back to try to reschedule. So again, if youre looking for your bags or that outage last night, most likely here inside of terminal two, and inside the flight last night, and you need to show your id. And workers from American Airlines and ticket lines demanding better pay and health benefits. Were tired of working circumstance days a week. And we have no time with family. I mean, we work so much all day long. Police say they detained more than 50 workers and three San Francisco supervisors for trespassing. A united aid worker was killed this weaken afghanistan. It was a vehicle attack in in cabo that injured five other people. He was passionate about the work he did for the un and defended International Human rights. If you are in the east bay over to the peninsula and the bridge, there are area problems here and at one point the east bount lanes were closed and its still a mess because of it. And traffic there is lighter in the picture here. And we want to show you 280, san jose. Its not reason coming down right now, and the pavement looks pretty wet, and you can see the road. And it burned more than 3,000 acres already. No injuries reported and no homes destroyed. The cause is still being investigated. The impeachment inquiry is moving forward. They say the first impeachment hearing will be a week from today. It will feature legal experts about constitutional grounds about impeachment. It shows that the pullout on removing the president from office. There is no question there are a number of democrats in trump districts, districts of the president in 2016 whose constituents do not want them to impeach this president and who it will be a very uncomfortable vote. And no evidence so far that has the votes to impeach. The house released more transcripts of closed door testimony today, and an employee with an opposite budget testified that he raised concerns about the legality of the holdup of military aid to ukraine back in july. And the employee testified to a management and bunlt officials in part about the concerns of the aid being withheld. Internal records from the bart Police Showed that 80 of the citations of eating and drinking on plat formed were to people of color. It showed 55 citations have been handed out since october of 2014. 3 of those citations were given to african passengers and 1 were given to latino passengers and 9 to white passengers. She says the mission helped them, and now every thanksgiving, he provides meals to volunteers. You dont have to volp tear. I do it because they gave something to me that i can never take away. Heres highway 24, and its a nice, easy drive and a little bit trigger about an hour and a half ago with a couple of crashes. Its now been cleared, and it looks good. And also the plaza is much lighter and just 45ub9 minutes ago. So hopefully we are on the downward force for the upward commute. Should we ramp up later this afternoon. Its complicated for the holiday because of the rain and the heavier rain now picks up with showers out there. Its a cool morning as we start in the 40s and 42, and 45 in the valley. As you head over to east bay, youve got about 44 degrees in dublin and 42 in livermore, and 44 in concord, and 43 degrees, so you have south bound delays. You have a look at the storm. You can see it, and most of the energy down in Southern California. However, we are still up to showers here, and you see that. Weve had some over in the east bay. And certainly right now, probably just getting the brunt of the showers. And we also have a little snow in Mount Hamilton which is fun to see. And we have delay, 39 minutes and were running just fine in oakland and san jose. And theres weather in the center of the country running to the east. That is causing delays and snow and ice about an hour and 20 minutes, 30 minutes for chicago and the rest across the country. If youre heading out today, pretty good. But were prepared to ensure that there are additional Police Service to really address some of the concerns and the people in that area. Ultimately, we want to get people off the streets. We know how much is not just a problem for San Francisco but a problem all over the bay area. And its important Navigation Centers open because they are solutions to addressing homelessness. Lets talk about Law Enforcement on a grand scale in San Francisco. What sort of contract tact have you had with the new District Attorney in San Francisco . So weve talked a number of times. We met, and we talked about some of the important things that need to be addressed in San Francisco, and im really hopeful he will work as a partner with me and the Mayors Office to address what we know are the most challenging issues around Public Safety that we face as a city. In particular, the drug deals, the violent crimes, we want to address those issues. Those are at the top of my list, and im really hopeful about the ability to Work Together and also understanding that the forms to our criminal justice sustm are also important and making sure that in many cases, what we see with the data, African Americans disproportionately impacted by the Justice System, higher sentencing, higher arrest and challenges. So it is a plaping act with those kinds of issues and Holding People accountable as perpetrator for cripe in our city. How do you priorityize craimz, and car breakins and that sort of thing versus a grander goal of reforming the Justice System itself . I think that again theres a balance. Its been a lot of mistalks made in the past, but heres the thing. For example with the oakland air drug dealing, its a bigger issue, and we know it is. And we know its a 2 unemployment rate. Theres no one who wants to make a decent earning to get a job in our city. So were prepared to work with people. Were prepared to work with people who are firsttime offenders and provide opportunities not back on the streets doing things to land them in jail in the first place. Its a balancing act for opportunities. But if someone doesnt take you up on that offer, it has to be consequences. We cant continue to allow what we know is happening, in the morning in particular and other places in our city to go, you know, unnoticed and then also a lack of accountability, not being held accountable for the things they are doing that is impacting the quality of life. And on the issue of clean and safe street, you had a great and successful pit stop program. It happened and opened overnight, and what do you say about the supervisor having all of the pit stops open 24 7 . I think i understand where hes coming from, but lets talk about it. Who is going to pay for it . We have to mock sure we do this responsibly, no. 1, and no. 2, its the safety of the people who are working in the pit stops in the evening and overnight. We need to make sure we have the capacity to meet the needs and funding to take care of it. It really is a balancing act. You have it to be open all over the city, all 24 hours for anyone who needs direction. Of course i would, but we have to do it in a responsible way and make sure that it is sustainable. All right.
