Some of them were protesting the citys handling of the imuj in terms of the money being used to support Homeless Services. Some people had to be carried out of the area, tents were broken down and thrown into the back of a truck, a dozen people were detained. There has been an increase this evictions over the last two years and there has not been any solution to the homeless problem. Reporter protestors began their demonstration sunday afternoon in the plaza, they called it housing justice village, many are homeless or on the verge of becoming homeless and advocates pointed to the millions of dollars in funding for Homeless Services that they said should have been used for support services. The mayor has not followed the direction of the city council, they have been very specific about how they want the money to be spent. Reporter several people also told our crews that tough sheds are not safe and they are made with hazardous materials, they said even though they have been cleared out they will continue to fight to end curb side evictions, they do not want the city to come in and destroy their property and they are hoping to have an end to that kind of action. They are not clear if the shooting was random or if the victims were targeted. A suspect faces multiple gun charges following his arrest last thursday, another suspect was taken into custody the same day facing gun charges as well as child endangerment charges, five people were killed in the shooting nine others were injured. The United States government has released the results of the largest study ever conducted on Mass Shootings in the United States, they examined Mass Shootings in the United States dating back to 1966, all of the shooters suffered a childhood trauma or personal crisis and they were often motivated by racism and religious hate. 9 of the shooters were using illegal firearms, School Shooters used guns that they took interest their family members. The study defined Mass Shootings as gun fire that resulted in the death of four or more people in a public place. Thanksgiving is just a few days away, if you are tackling the turkey or making one of my favorite sides we have an easy way to motorcycle your home kitchen turn out restaurant quality dishes, we are joined by chef jenn from oakland, thank you for joining us. So glad to be here. The turkey can go wrong if its dry. You have to brine it. Dry or wet brine. Wet. Start today. Get your turkey and make your brine, i use a brine with lots of herbs and lemon zest and black peppersesscorns. You can peppercorns, get the oils going and get the pot and the salt and brown sugar and bring it to a boil. Let it steep. Leave it for an hour, brain it and then get your turkey put it in the refrigerator and you do not have to think about it. It makes such a dinners. Dry white meat. I always get extra legs. I like white meat but not when its sawdust, wet brine produces a better product. Yes if you want a juicy white meat turkey you fot to brine it. This is a personal sized serving dish of bread stuffing, i am bringing the bread stuffing to my family. I got some nice course loafs of bread. Get the sour dough that is going to be nice and has that sour flavor, i like to hand tear it so you get all of these nooks is nooks and crannies, you are going to get more crunchiness. I will tear the bread. I like to do the stuffing and of course you need butter. A ton of butter. We can just mix this in. Melt the butter and toss the butter if a sautee pan. Like you are making pop corn but its bread. I am making the bread stuffing because i trust no one else to use enough butter to make it delicious. Its Bread Pudding with butter and broth. There are vegetables in there, i add a little bit of fennel and leaks and a tiny bit of garlic. You want it more sweet because when the flavors caramelize and when you melt these down you are going to have this great layered flare going on. All right. You have the butter, you have the vegetables, some salt and pepper, i like to add a little sausage, if you get sweet Italian Sausage just take it out of the casing, you can just slice it and put it in there, it gives a savory texture. I like it. I went ahead and made a Little Turkey neck broth, have you to make it nice and wet. I left all of the fat on this. What is the red spice. This is for the butter. I like to make little butter rubs for the turkey, rub it underneath the skin. Yes. All right, take your turkey out of the brine, put it on a rack. Put it in the refrigerator. I use the cooler in the corner of the kitchen for the wet brine, it works. Get the butter and i like to add a little bit of paprika and spice and salt and pepper, you can see you got it here. Yes you get this mixed up and this is the butter that you want to rub all over the turkey, and inside the skin, get the butter in there. If you do this do you have to baste it while its baking. Not as much. Then put it on a sheet pan and let it dry out in the refrigerator. Next day stuff it if you like stuffing, you do not have to stuff it inside. I like both, then get your butter there and pop the bird in the oven. Smells like heaven, we are running short on time. Brussels sprouts, what is your faith way. I like them with a bit of sweet. I like to blanch them and sautee them and a little persimmons and diced ham and pine nuts and parsley and more butter. Thats my tag line. The community is hurting route now, the community is dumbfounded right now asking why and how, this was an 11 and 14 year old. I have grandsons who are the same ages, 11 and 14 and the thought of losing one of them is to extremely painful. My heart breaks for the mother, for the parents, for the sisters, for the whole family. A woman identifying herself as a probation officer who lives in the community implored the crowd to take charge and not rely on the government to solve problems and urged kids to stay focused on schools not the streets. Raising a child starts at home. I am a single father, it starts at home. There are many questions surrounding why the young boils were out in a van so late at night and who would want to take their lives, a repeated message to the crowd, anyone with information should come forward and talk to the police. We need to catch these people. Someone elses kid could be at risk. Beginning january 1, california residents will need to have health insurance, covered california is one place to get financial help to pay for coverage. To give us some information on how california can help consumers find Affordable Health coverage we are joined by peter lee from covered california. A lot of chatter about this Enrollment Period being one of the biggest. I agree, two things, this year california has made it the law that you need health insurance, without insurance you are going to pay a penaltiment the federal penalty wept away last year, people in the states said the penalty makes sense and california put money on the table to help lower healthcare costs. A lot of people in the bay area including middle class bay area residents who were previously not eligible for help can get help with their healthcare costs. Is the number of people who do not have insurance in the state a million. Yes but many of them are undocumented. There is a Million People eligible who have not come to us, many of them checked online a year or to ago and do not realize that there is help. You can find out in minutes, in the bay area people who make up to 150,000 for a family of four they are getting on average 500 a month to lower their healthcare costs. We all need a leg up with healthcare, most of us get it through our jobs, if you do not, this is the place to go. What is a common misconception. The number one thing, i cannot get help, healthcare is too expensive, it is expensive in in california and across the nation, for people with with employer coverage it costs 20,000, the premium. So the thing is if you are not sure, check. Three quarters of the people eligible do not think that they are eligible. Now is the time to check it out. Is this something that the state is going to continue to give money to, the assumption is that health costs are going to rise for the foreseeable future. No american except for maybe warren buffet can afford healthcare without insurance, the Affordable Care act was good but not good enough so california built on that and made people not eligible for financial help eligible. We have to build on getting more people covered. What about the penalty. There may be people at home going how much is the penalty if i do not sign up for it. The penalty for a family of four, minimum 2,000 a year and it goes up after that but that is not the penalty. The pep alt is if you decide to go without insurance, you end up with the er and walk out owing 100,000. Thats the penalty. How do you get that. A lot of people in their 20s say i do not do risky things, i cannot imagine me needing health insurance, i never go to the doctor. Talk one of those people out of that. I talked to a friend of mine who said i never do riffingy things coming back from snow boarding where he broke his wrist and it was 30,000. None of us plan to get sick or to fall off the snow board or get cancer but stuff happens and insurance is about being there when the bad things happen, it happens to 26 year olds and 40 year olds and 60 year olds. The chorus just bought a new building at 170 valencia, it will be the new national lgbtq center for the arts, our goal to to bring in more artists to create more music and art. How would you like to see the appeal expanded more. I am just really excited to see where things go, i have been in the choir for three or four months so everything is knew to me but just having a place where we have a base of operation, i am just excited about all of the things that we can expand and sing and continue our message.
