The area around the crime scene was closed for several hours, as police collected evidence. Today, Vallejo Police released new information about a deadly shooting involving an off Duty Richmond Police officer. The controversy apparently started in a dispute over parking. The attorney for the man who was killed says the Public Statement is missing key details. There are two sides to the story in the shooting death of eric reason by an offDuty Richmond Police sergeant. That shooting took place in vallejo. What they released appears to be what i would consider to be a statement of criminal defense. This doesnt appear to be an objective, unbiased statement. Reporter attorney for reasons family is talking about new information released by Vallejo Police, that it said details the moments before Sergeant Virgil thomas shot reason. Reasons vehicle was y there. According to information released by Vallejo Police, both cars stopped facing each other, and thomas honked his horn to warn reason of his presence. Mr. Reasons car was obstructing the officer from getting into a parking space. Reporter both men got out of their vehicles and a confrontation ensued. He went and grabbed a hand gun for his own defense. The officer drew his weapon, and started firing at mr. Reason. Mr. Reason ran away was running screaming. Reporter but the Vallejo Police department insists it wasnt that simple. Claiming reason got out of his car, and walked within inches of thomas shouting profanities. Thomas felt threatened for his safety, and the safety of his wife who was his passenger. She examined reasons body for herself, and three Bullet Wounds in the back of his body. The Police Account doesnt explicitly say that, but it does say that Sergeant Thomas fired at reason, who they say was fleeing with his gun, and quote raised it at one point. End quote. So far it doesnt appear they have given it an unbiased look. Reporter the final determination will be made by the Solano County district attorneys office. In vallejo, im andre senior, ktvu, fox 2 news. The Palo Alto City Council approved a settlement with the resident of a Mobile Home Park who was violently arrested last year. Gustava alvarez will receive more than 572,000. The settlement also requires a written apology from the supervising officer who slammed alvarez into the hood of a car outside his home. Alvarez was arrested for driving with a suspended license. His sense of safety and security in his home was completely robbed by these officers who violated a whole slough of civil rights that he was entitled to as a citizen of palo alto. Thats not something that any amount of money can cure, or make better. The supervising officer was later seen on security video, making fun of alvarez, who is gay. As part of the settlement, all officers will be required to go through two hours of lgbtq sensitivity training. Were getting an update tonight from pg and e on the latest Power Outages to prevent wildfires. Heres a look at the outage map. Along with solano, and up into lake county. Pg and e says it turned off power to about 48,000 customers, and has already begun restoring power in some areas. We do not believe well be able to restore 100 of that customer load at this time by the end of the day today, and its primarily based on, were out of daylight hours, and were unable to fly that infrastructure to confirm that it is safe to be reenergized. However, we are patrolling via ground, and via foot in some cases to restore what we can, this evening, and then we will transition, and pick the rest of this up in the morning. Jesse gary tells us, one Watchdog Group says that particular stretch of road is a known trouble spot. San jose police still on the hunt. Investigators say around 10 30 tuesday night, the person behind the wheel of a 1999 honda going eastbound ran a red light at South Jackson avenue, collided with a tesla traveling northbound, and then veered across the bus lane, a dodge durango, headed west. Reporter two passengers in the honda suffered the most out of the six people involved in the collision. One was killed. The second critically injured. The driver himself escaped on foot. He stopped, got out of the vehicle, and fled the scene. Reporter this marked san joses 46th fatal collision of the year, which is about average for this time of year, looking back over the past five years. Officials with one nonprofit say resigning busy streets could lesson the occurrence of these types of crashes. Its always really tragic and sad. We do feel these crashes are really preventible. Reporter she says tuesdays crash area is one of 17 priority corridors, which account for 3 the reason that they do have a hire number of crashes is because theyre wider. Theres more lanes, drivers can travel at higher speeds, and speed is one of the greatest factors in a lot of these fatal incidents. Reporter police say theyre using Surveillance Video collected from multiple cameras to aid the investigation. The suspect driver at the center of the crash could be charged with vehicular manslaughter, and felony hit and run. Its definitely tragic, and i know everyones concerned about the traffic collisions that are occurring. Elk Grove High School in san jose is set to reopen tomorrow, two days after a functioning explosive device was found on campus. Initially, the school went into lockdown mode. A team of bomb sniffing dogs conducted a sweep of the school to make sure it was safe. Police will have an increased presence at the school tomorrow. An oakland board is deciding whether to renew several Charter Schools in the district. People protesting the districts plans to close and consolidate some schools disrupted other school board meetings, and some parents were detained by police. A man is under arrest after trying to kidnap a toddler at a library last week Marcus Deberry approached a nanny and told the nanny the child was his. He then followed the nanny and the child to the berkely librarys Clairemont Branch where he tried to grab the boy. Officers found him later that day and arrested him. An effort is underway to remove a member of the board of supervisors from office. Supervisor sandra lee fewer is now the target of a recall effort, and it comes just two weeks after she was captured on camera chaptering profanities at the police union. Supervisor fewer says she makes the distinction that she supports the officers, but she does not support the organization that represents them. As for the recall, she says the timing seems odd. A battle is brewing in San Franciscos richmond district. The group saying the viral video of the supervisor chanting blank the Police Officers association, an election event for chessa bodine, was the straw that broke the camels back. Alexandria janson volunteers for the police board. A group aimed at being a conduit for local police and where theyre protecting. That is not an example that im looking for, for my children, or what i expect of an elected official. Whether you feel that way or not. To me, that was not the time or the place. I find the timing a little surprising, because in just 12 short months, residents will be able to determine who their next supervisor is anyway. So i think the timing is odd. We could see wind gusts at the Higher Elevations. 50miles an hour. In the bay area, above 1,000 feet, you might see 35 milean hour gusts over the next few hours. Below that, you might not be noticing anything. Thats the story around here. Its been good. So far, gotten through some of the strongest winds, which were this morning and this afternoon a bit. I think theyll fire up again tonight. We talked about that. We got clear at the coast. We had showers this morning. You probably remember those last night if you were watching us at 10 00, and theyve kind of passed on. Now were looking at temperatures on the cool side. Check out the winds. Theyre not really blowing that hard. These are some the few observations. The winds definitely have worked with us this. Were not seeing widespreadk long lasted offshore winds. With that cool air, when the winds die down tonight, its going to be a chilly night, so we might even see some frost in some places, but its going to be chilly. Low 40s in others. I think everybodys feeling the chill tomorrow morning, then the story has been this low that brought the rain to southern california. The difference between the two created the offshore flow for today, and tonight. By late tonight, that low moves off. The Pressure Gradient gets wider, so its not as powerful. And this pressure kind of settles in for the weekend. And the winds decrease as that low gets further away. As you look at the temperatures not hot, but certainly pleasant for fall about a week from thanksgiving now. Changes are coming our way next week, so thanksgiving might see a little bit of wet. Maybe a little snow in the mountains. Well talk more about that tonight at 10 00. But you get the idea. Once we get out of the next few hours, i think that wind that is bothering you now, should be dying down, very rapidly. Survivers of life threatening medical emergencies were reunited today with the Emergency Responders who saved their lives. The ems survivors reunion was held today at the boundary oaks clubhouse in walnut creek. Six cardiac arrest survivors including one teenager were able to thank the police, firefighters, and paramedics who saved their lives. I was talking away, and then i just dropped on the couch. They 911, and one of her friends started cpr on me, which lasted at least six minutes. At which time nick showed up, and took over. Emergency responders there today say seconds matter in situations like this. And the faster you call 911, and can start cpr, the better the chance that lives will be saved.
