The worst but it really has been a relatively quiet night for the most part. The wind really hasnt been that bad with the exception of some gusts here and there since weve been here since about 4 am. The National Weather Service Canceled a high wind advisory because wind below 2500 feet has died down but, again, still under a red flag warning. Wind is Strong Enough and humidity is low enough to create critical fire weather conditions. Spot fires that can turn into bigger fires are possible. Firefighters will finally get a break after an intense week on the front lines because the wind well let up after today. That does not mean the area is safe. Fire could be burning inside trees coming even if we dont see it. Cal fire says they can fall, roll down the hill and start another fire. We did see firefighters pulled off onto the side of the road earlier spraying water on a smoking tree. Another issue is how dry everything around here is. Vlive fuel moisture up there is a 50 . 60 is critical so its well below the critical threshold. Thats why the spot fires are so important to the firefighters, so they can find those and actively get them out quickly so we dont have other issues. Weve seen an impressive ground attack on the kincade fire. Since the start of the fire, 27 helicopters have dropped 2. 1 million gallons of water and an air tanker fleet dropped 1 million gallons of retardant. Out here live you can take a look at the windy conditions. We are just off highway 128 in the healdsburg area and it hasnt really been that bad considering the wind we saw the last couple of days but am not sure if you can see just how intensely these embers are flying into the air across the road. This area has been burned over already but if this window really kicks up more than it already is and these embers continue to fly, there is a chance of spot fires and spot fires can be maintained and put out pretty quickly but if there are no firefighters around to do that, that is obviously an issue. There are firefighter station done highway 128 in both directions so we will keep an eye on this area. If a spot fire does start, we will of course let those firefighters know. They have been working day in and day out for a week now to get this fire under control. Sara zendehnam, ktvu fox 2 news. Before you go, where exactly are you . Steve paulson is trying to pinpoint where you were standing. We see the wind blowing your hair. Reporter . I dont know the exact location. Were just off of highway 128. Geyserville ranch, 28 and 61 . Healdsburg hill, northeast and 8 . Up around 2500 feet, the wind speed is still gusting but its the humidity which is extremely low because everything is coming in out of the east, northeast. That is the direction the fire will start to go back toward. Lake county as well. You see an easterly component blowing. Not that strong but humidity at critical levels. North, northeast and the Oakland Hills and the same in around county. And the airflow is taking everything toward the coast where the humidity in Half Moon Bay is at 9 and youre seeing 10 and teens on humidity from fairfield all the way back over to sfo. There is a lot of slow traffic on the Altamont Pass approach. Overnight wind is not a strong as feared but fire crews are telling us that situation remains fluid. This fire is obviously proven to us that it is stubborn and if it wants to keep pushing to the west. So far firefighters have been successful in preventing the flames from moving toward santa rosa, healdsburg and windsor. That is still a concern. The air attack has been critical in fighting the fire. Planes and helicopters have dropped 1 million gallons of retardant and 2 million gallons of water. They kept dumping them. The working. More than 4800 firefighters from across the western u. S. Are battling the kincade fire. As Sara Zendehnam was driving outside the kincade fire lines, she came across a downed tree on the highway. You are there on highway 128 fax reporter thats right. Highway 128 in unincorporated Sonoma County. We were driving down 128 and had to stop because of this. There was a huge tree that was still smoldering. The trunk is still smoldering and it fell across highway 128. Fire crews have been out here and have made very Good Progress , quickly removing the tree. They are cutting it up right now and removing it. 128 is shut down in this area regardless so its not like any residents could go through the area but it is a route for emergency vehicles and you can see how many crews are out here now attending to this tree. Of course this is a big concern with all of the fire ravaged trees in the area. Like i was mentioning 30 minutes ago, something cal fire said is these trees that have fire inside of them, even if you dont see it on the inside, they could fire inside. They could fall, roll down hills and spark other fires. Thankfully this is not on a hill, fl across the roadway and nobody appears to be injured in this area. We dont know when it happened, just in the last 45 minutes or so because we drove through the area around 5 30 am and this tree was not down. And last 15 or 20 minutes, this is what we are seeing here. We are on highway 128 foot ranch road is the nearest intersection. And this tree that is still smoldering at the trunk fell across the roadway. Fire crews are out here cutting it up and trying to clear the roadway. Just one of many hazards in this fire ravaged area. Sara zendehnam, thank you for the update from the scene. It still windy but not as windy as it was forecast during the night and what firefighters were fearing this morning.
