First to the big news of the day. In the past hour we heard from Contra Costa County fire officials about the massive fire at a Petroleum Storage facility in crockett. That was the explosion as it happened. Officials say the fire is contained but they have yet to determine what started it. The fire sent an awful lot of the black smoke into the air in rodeo, hercules and crockett. Interstate 80 is now open after 80 was shut down in both directions for hours yesterday. At this point crews are on the scene investigating are working to prevent any further damage. Lets bring in sarah life in crockett with the remaining concerns today. Reporter good morning. That investigation is well underway at this hour and now that the sun is up you can see the aftermath of this fire. Take a look at the damage that was caused along this hillside that is charred and the two tanks that were completely taken to the ground. There is foam still on the ground that you can see as well and from contra costa Fire District officials they are leading the investigation. We note there is an Assessment Team right here now examining infrastructure at Nustar Energy Energy Facility and crockett. And the big question is how did the fire start. What asked if monday nights earthquake could have caused the fire but a spokesperson said it is too early to say. The fire started tuesday afternoon. Two takes containing 250,000 gallons of ethanol were destroyed and now there is a concern for a 3rd tank. He says they are examining the Structural Integrity but all of the other tanks at the facilities are safe. There are currently 56 fire vehicles on site and they will be here until there is no longer a threat of a flareup. Right now the Assessment Team is in the facility looking for ways to mitigate the vapor emissions coming off the tank locations. Nustar energy and part of that is determining how to remove the materials in both of those secondary containment structures down there. Which will then completely mitigate the risk of fire. We are also examining the infrastructure to see what the possibilities are in terms of removing the materials because some of the infrastructure, the pipes and valves were damaged in the fire and of course reporter california osha is involved and is on site right now. A spokesperson at the California Department of industrial relations said cal osha inspectors issued an order to preserve on the two tanks and pipes involved in the fire and issued an order to prohibit use on the facility until the contingency for operation can continue safely and we have reached out to Nustar Energy for updated information and we are waiting to hear back also important to note one chevron firefighter was hurt last night. We dont know exactly what happened but we are told that his injuries were minor and he was treated and released and obviously a developing story. We are expecting to get another update from the Assessment Team within the next couple of hours and we have the information we will bring it to you. All four schools in the John Swett Unified School district are closed as a safety measure. He like biden, amy klobuchar, they say if you want to buy into medicare you can and if you dont keep your private plan. A lot of americans polled say they are freaked out by the prospect of losing their health insurance. The having it or having it taking it away from them. They dont want to lose the private insurance. They both come out swinging last night and more so than we have seen in the previous three debates. You feel like that strategy work for either of them because this morning everyone is talking about mayor pete booted judge. There are other moderates and options in the race. You have bernie and one on one side and if you are more of a progressive and your centerleft is now biden and Pete Pete Buttigieg and there are options for voters but i think mayor pete, he was swinging at everybody. He went after beto orourke and warren. And so evmixed it up with tulsi gabbard. So he was showing i think he needed to show i am not just the small town mayor from you know nowhere indiana, i am someone who can stand on the world stage. And i think you had a new haircut too. The file joe biden handled the question about hunter and the ukraine will do you think he looks strong last night because to meet it kind of seemed like he flatlined. He kind of flatlined for part of that and he said hunter spoke for himself. He had an interview yesterday hunter even admitted i wouldnt have had these jobs if my name wasnt hunter biden. In keyword biden. But joe biden didnt go there. He said let him speak for himself and it was a weird kind of distancing and this will connect. I think Many Americans have a problem with the inherent elitism in that. He got somewhere because of who his dad was. One of the ladies was like a bank were having an earthquake and i was like no way and i turned around and all the stuff was shaking on the walls. The water container was pushing back and forth. It was shaking pretty good. It was felt across northern california. The owner of this hair salon said being so close to the epicenter made it different than others she had failed. It was more like a rolling type of thing and a shakiness at the same time. Reporter her client is a new mother said the earthquake was more terrifying than usual because of concerns for her monthold daughter. My husband screamed earthquake and my first thought was when i saw my fridge moving around and i said grabbed the baby of the fourweek always in the bassinet so we went running into the bedroom to grab her and she started screaming. He will be in studio next. 1980 radio city music hall jerry garcia and the grateful dead opening up. 39 years later garcia is now the subject of a new book called jerry garcia secret space of dreams and the man behind the photographs longtime photographer jay blakesberg. Welcome. I had 4 2 years with jerry and the grateful dead and i cant imagine 17 years. You were at that show. I was at that show in 1980. I was a fan and e thing that was great was that they always let you bring a camera even when the corporate world took over rock n roll and stop letting people bring cameras in. The grateful dead always did. I had a camera until i got on the other side of the rail in the late 80s i started doing assignments for Rolling Stone magazine and that started sort of opening things up. When was your first is a photographer . The first time i shot the grateful dead which is in the book, was september 2, 1978. Giants stadium at the meadowlands. A big stadium show and my dad loaned me his camera and i shot the grateful dead. I mean there were some things that got published. I tell a story and im doing a slide show at terrapins crossroads and i talk about the first time i ever got paid for my photographs was in 1979 and i was 17 years old in a free weekly newspaper like the sf weekly. It ran two of my photos and pay me 15. All those famous moments. When i went to the shows i got the energy and i understood and still understand it today but i would hear criticism that they just stand on stage and play music. What you tell people about that . There is no pyrotechnics with the grateful dead. Hours. It is all about body language and they are very animated. Jerry garcia is an animated person it was about a hannah flourish or an intense vocal and a big smile and bowheeler was very animated and so was phil lesh and they were the antirock stars but there was this great energy on stage and if you were a fan like i was and i knew it was coming my Little League coach told me to anticipate the play and the best thing i was ever told because you have to be ready to capture that lightning in a bottle in that split second. How was it shooting jerry on stage compared offstage webbie offstage garcia was like any other musician. Ive done a lot of work with Carlos Santana and neil young and people who have been in business for 50 years making music and these guys have done 1 million photo shoots. They just want to have lunch. I dont want to sit in front of the camera and my job is to make a brilliant photograph or as close as i can to making a brilliant photograph. The shot right here, this was a threeminute photo shoot with jerry garcia in 1991. In he didnt like it . He just didnt like the attention. He wanted to be a regular guy and play guitar. Some of the quotes in the book he sorta says that. There are a lot of quotes i found that i used in the book and he just wanted as he says to live his weird little life in his weird little way and play guitar. I found myself going to jerry garcia band shows a little bit more than the dead shows. Because when you talk about his personality that he was more himself from my Vantage Point there on the floor at the warfield than a big shoreline in the theater, did you get that when you would shoot him that he was a different man when he was in the smaller venues . Yeah. The jerry garcia band was a sublime thing. That even got big towards the end on the east coast and jerry garcia was playing arenas. I remember seeing the band at the stone on broadway in north beach here in small clubs like that and even back in the 70s on the east coast it was theaters. Never arenas until the 90s when you were singing but like i said, jerry i did the shoot in this living room in 1993 and garcia, i do keep telling him to stop singing. It was a private concert because i was shooting for a magazine cover and i didnt want his mouth to be weird and wonky so im probably the only guy that ever said just home the song in your head because i need this cover shot. It was us for 45 minutes doing photos and hanging out just give him a guitar and let them play. And the headline of your book. What you want people to know . I think this is a book that represents who jerry was and i think 25 years almost he was gone, i think that he is bigger than ever and people resonate with that. His songwriting partner Robert Hunter just died a few weeks ago and the songs in these words meant so much to us deadheads and i think this brings us back to a lot of the memories and really connects us to that music and that songbook. That was the scene yesterday afternoon and we brought you live the first News Conference of the day just about 90 minutes ago. Cal fire spokesperson updated is about what happened overnight in the investigation moving forward. A lot of questions about the cause but investigators do not know what actually ignited the massive fire. He said an Assessment Team is right now on the scene checking out the Structural Integrity of the entire complex. Two storage tanks holding 150,000 tanks of ethanol were destroyed while two other tanks may have been compromised. Authorities are examining one specific secondary tank to make sure it will still hold up. The secondary containment facilities which are earthen berms around the tanks are now holding the remainders of the materials that were in the tanks and the material is ethanol in both cases. Were keeping phone on both of those former tank sites to ensure we dont get a rekindle. During the News Conference learned that a firefighter working for chevron was heard overnight. He was treated for his injuries and release. The contra costa Fire District is leading the investigation with the assistance it lasted nearly 9 hours. It led to workers about air quality and other health concerns. Allie rasmussen is live in hercules and some people are still concerned about the impact from all the smoke. Reporter have been talking to people from hercules and rodeo talking about some of their loved ones and family members. Family members who have breathing problems and things like asthma. The good news is the quality is okay and this morning it was given the all clear but Contra Costa Health officials. Just before 10 00 was the last time they monitored it and that is when they look lifted the shelter in place order. We will say what prompted all this and this was caused by this fire that happen at the storage tank and the new star Energy Facilities near crockett, that fire broke out around 1 00 in the afternoon preceded by some sort of explosion and a lot of residents reported hearing infilling and some thought it was another earthquake. Black smoke billowed into the air and later in the afternoon around 3 00 some sirens went off to alert people in the surrounding areas of crockett, rodeo and hercules to stay indoors and keep their doors and windows shut. The ac and Heating Systems off which is what people did and continue to do until that stay in place or shelter in place order was left at around 10 00 last night. As some of our relatives who are from st. Helena who actually came down here. They have really a respiratory issues and my grandmother is on an oxygen tank and we were concerned. We check on everyone and everyone in our family is doing great. Just happy that we can keep this behind us now and my other granddaughter is one and she just had, i was really scared for her because she just had a chest xray to make sure it wasnt pneumonia and that was the day before so we will be watching her. We checked in with Contra Costa County Health Officials and they dont have any plans to continue monitoring the air quality after this fire happened yesterday and again air quality is good or was good last night and it is expected to continue that way this they ao checked in with area hospitals and Health Officials said there were no po increases of anyone going to the emergency room because of any breeding or health problems. This is the victims nephew told police that atatiana jefferson, a licensed gun owner grabbed the gun from her purse after hearing suspicious noises outside her home. She pointed the gun at the window, possibly in self defense. Moments later, she was shot and killed by officer aaron dean. There is absolutely no excuse for this incident and the person responsible will be held accountable. Was specifically focused upon Preventative Services for healthy pets and that looks like vaccines, fleet and heartworm preventative. Spay neuter and treatment for things was the most commonly specifically skin and ear infections. When i go into shoppers im disheartened sometimes because are so crowded with cats and dogs and other animals what a legacy is when the animals go into a home. There is a misconception i think if you can touch on it that every home can afford to go to a veterinarian and have the Services Providing because they can add up and costs and it is a tough decision for families who have pets.
